I love how that side of his head is "cooked", like he's either to enraptured with the weapon to let such a minor concern bother him or he just doesn't notice.
Also really digging the Plasma Russ and the commander is truly impressive.

Re: Tunnel Crawlers: Abhuman Imperial Guard

    Slow progress is still progress!

6th edition hit and it caused me to take a moment and re-evaluate my list. The first thing I did was ran out and got an Aegis Defense line + quad gun, because Guard love that thing to pieces. The second thing I did was converted and painted a Primaris Psyker, because the new psychics are way cool, and the Primaris is a measly 70 points:

"Only when you have finished this army do you have my permission to die."

Mordeheim Augur body with some conversions in the head and hands area. The idea here is that this little lady is a Throwback, an abhuman who appears "normal" enough to act as a liason between the tunnel crawlers and the surface dwellers. So she's sort of two-times a mutant. Oh wait, she's also a witch, so that makes her three-times a mutant. Anyway, she is a fun, welcome addition tot he army. Trooper assembly has his a bottleneck due to a sudden scarcity of workable lasguns and lasgun arms. The 80 or so troops all have drilled out hoods, however, and more than half have rebreathers. I've also added a Leman Russ demolisher to the team, and have plans to pick up a vendetta.
At first I was mucho offended by the Allies rules in 6e, but I've warmed up to them recently. I happened upon an Exorcist that I got for a birthday a few years back but never painted it, and that gave me the idea of throwing together a SoB allied contingent. Behold:

I'll get you, my pretty! And your little dog too!
My thought here is that the planet Asclepius has a moon, and that moon had a chapel-barracks for the Order of the Bloody Rose. Now, the sisters were infected just like the planetary population, but the most faithful Sisters survived the worst of it, and now fight on in a state of painful living death. For the Emperor, of course.

Anyway, there might be more SoBs coming up, or I might lose interest with them.

The augur! It's so hard to get that model these days, I had an easier time tracking down my Bertha Bestraufrung model! Well finding her was easy, winning an eBay auction was the tricky part.

But I'm going off track now, the Psyker is a really nice conversion, simple and effective. Those are often the best conversions I reckon. The addition of hoods to the SoB is inspired and suits them so well! Did you green stuff straight over the hair or shave it down a bit first?

Many times, an army project will have a brilliant concept and poor execution, or vice-versa. However I can confidently say that you have managed to combine one of the most brilliant concepts I have seen in ages with flawless execution! Everything is just great.

That psyker conversion is very good - great use of the augur! Very characterful and dynamic! Adding SoB is always a good idea, I hope you follow through on that one. The painting is really nice, and I would like to see more!

That's actually the augur's regular head, I just chopped off the pony tail, filed down her face, attached a rebreather from the Cadian command squad sprue, and used greenstuff to fashion the straps. The mini is sculpted with closed eyes, but I was able to paint the eyelids to be blazing orange orbs instead.

Overall it's one of my favorite minis in the army.

I tried it both ways, and found that filing down the hair makes for more satisfying results. It was more work to shave the heads, but it was worth it. And since the sisters are from an older abandoned project, I down't actually have to convert them anew - my paint stripping technique leaves the greenstuff hoods completely unaffected!

Actually, looking at my desk I can see that I have three more hoods to sculpt - one for the sarge, and two for the meltagun-bearers.

I also got my rare earth magnets yesterday! Next month: Vendetta!

Some tunnels are alot smaller than the tanks in the imperial guard army, would they adapt some to make them fit in smaller enviroments. Would make an interesting thought for a conversion ^.^ Just food for thought.

Initially I came up with the concept to have a bunch of chimeras with giant drills on the front (moleman style) but as the concept evolved it became more "underdog scavengers" and less "50's supervillain." I still think about wacky drill machines from time to time though.

But it would be a tragedy to chop them up! Besides, I'll need cultists for my Chaos army!

Tourney day is coming up, and word on the street is that flyers will be making an appearance. I figured I'd come to the table with a little flyer-insurance, in the form of what is probably the best all-around flyer in the game. The Vendetta is a steal at 130 points, and can reduce flyer and tanks to slag with a single salvo. The Valkyrie with missile pods is similarly devastating to infantry, so that's why I went ahead and magnetted the whole thing up.

Seriously probably the most original log I've ever seen. I'm so tempted to have a go myself.

Re: Tunnel Crawlers: Abhuman Imperial Guard

And now for something completely different.

Dark Vengeance dropped and Brother Munnin and I got into a contest to see who could paint the contents first. This has (once again) pushed the Aesclipian Abhumans to the back-burner, but I don't see any reason why I can't show you what I'm working on instead. For the Dark Angels I have chosen the Guardians of the Covenant successor chapter:

The Chaos side will be painted up as Black Legion to go with my existing Black Legion army. In between bouts of Dark Vengeance speed painting I'll probably get some paint on the Vendetta.

Nice, tidy looking paint job! Quite a contrast to your abhumans!
