    Perry twins announce WotR range

Perry twins have announced their upcoming Wars of the Roses late medieval plastics:

Apparently, the greens have also been on show on Salute.

Besides late medieval historical Europe, these could be of interest for many fantasy wargamers.

What's that Skip? A cheap Empire army?

Sweet. I haven't considered buying the Perry or Victrix historical plastic stuff this seriously before now. Although watching New Tricks last night made me seriously consider getting into historical wargaming.

The kits have handguns. Reading the rest of the article helps, rather than just getting excited about the pics and posting straight away . These figs look perfect for a Stirland force.

Notice that according to the article, there are going to be at least two kits: one with bills (polearms) and bows, and a later one with pikes and crossbows and handguns.

That later one could sound like something very promising for DoW players - especially since it was Perries themselves who sculpted most of the original DoW range, and those are very late 15th century in style, largely.

I have been waiting for plastic medieval models since I started wargaming. What a great way to start my day.

    Well,

Since you are in the heart of the Wargames Hobby in England, you ought to be able to get your hands on some soon

I am sure that these will also work with only some small mods for Elizabethan stuff too, which opens up all sorts of small games in periods such as the Early Explorers in America and such. Many years ago there was a neat skirmish game written up in Wargames Illustrated about an encounter between Elizabethan explorers and Eskimoes. There's also the Roanoke Colony, etc.

They look very promising. Looking forward to seeing the content's of the second box, containing the pikemen and handgunner's. If they look alright, then I could see the begining's of a cheap Empire army.

    *salivates*

I've been hoping someone would do a plastic medieval range. I think it's got a lot of potential. (Well, for my gaming table, at least!)

Yeah now I can do my DoW pike/shot army *grins*

Or a empire bill(spear) and arrow army

I wonder how many figures and commands in the box

If it is anything like the previous Perry sets, then I would expect 30+ infantrymen per box.

My those are nice... now if they do plastic Vikings I'd be all over them like a rash.

Still all the newer plastic Historical armies is a good thing... seeing as Warhammer Fantasy battles is getting rather unbalanced, it'd be nice to play a game where tactics are used more.

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused.

They are mighty nice - who's going to buy GW plastic empire ever again i wonder...

@stonehorse - do night owls ever play WAB or flames of war? if so might try and make an appearance, living in Hudds.

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Flames of war is VERY popular, it is a rae sight when it isn't being played, WAB is starting to get a bit more interest, it used to have a lot of interest. There is however a large selection of other Historical games being played, these tend to have peopel who have several armies, and will happily run demo games. I'm still trying to convert the club over to Wamaster Ancients.

    All the best,

Still waiting on Perry plastics to cover a time period, or indeed a country, I care about.
English and French don't do anything for me.

Ah well, I accept their reason for not doing plastic medieval Japanese (detail quality not good enough), but I would much rather see China or some other era/location being done than MORE english.

This view could all be down to Scottish bias though.
And I guess being english the Perry's probably do have more of an interest in their own countries history.

It might also be down to the simple fact that in the world of historical miniature gaming English subjects tends to sell well. It is still an Anglo-centric hobby, at least demographically.

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

I doubt that the stuff will work for Elizabethan armies. You will be hard pressed to get them into early Tudor armies, alas. The weapons changed from helbards to pikes, bows and crossbows went out of usage, handguns changed their form considerably, armour became less important and the the style of clothing had major changes. It will be like bringing an Imperial army of the late 19th century to a WW2-wargame.
On the other hand, many will not notice this.

The minis will be great to use for the late medieval armies, though, especially the Burgundian wars and the Italian condottieri. This will be hard to resist (not that I will try to resist).

Really? I'm Scottish but Napoleonics is well after Union. It's the BRITISH army. In fact the new British Perry range includes Highlanders.

Zephro while I am no huge fan of Salmond lets just say I'm far from a unionist, 100 years before Napoleon France was one of Scotlands most important allies.

I will probably check out the highlanders though, and they are still doing stuff for things like the new Choson Korean army models that are pretty good.
I didn't mean to make it sound like they were totaly anglo-centric cause I know they are far from it.

I'm feeling anal but the Auld Alliance ended in 1560ish when Scotland became protestant, as yknow the French were only really interested in alliances with Catholics.

The old pretender and the jacobites can bugger off for the Tories they were. It's why the French started trying to do the same thing in Ireland eventually, during the Napoleonic period.

100 years before Scottish troops were fighting the French in Flanders and on the Rhine as part of British Forces in the War of Spanish Succession.

Sorry I was listening to a radio 4 show about British nationality earlier. All the English, Scottish and Welsh just sniping at each other over ******** was infuriating.
