Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Ach well each to their own eh, I could drag the thread into P&R about the French never stealing our land, oil and water for 300+ years unlike some other countries and that "british nationality" is an oxymoron in my view, but really there's a place for that kinda discussion and it aint here.

On topic, I will say that while I may not care much for the war of the roses those models do blow GWs empire state troops out the water and then some, and to be honest at that time period the Scottish army was fairly similar to any other European army at the time, it was only the highlanders who added something a little different.

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Hm, those late-medieval infantrymen certainly will find buyers around where I live, and for good reason. I suppose it'd be too much to hope for separate metal arms with crossbows, greatswords and spears with shields?

This'll probably blow the head off a friend of mine, who've considered an Empire army for a long time, been talked into starting a small one based on the Perries' Napoleonic plastics and happens to have medieval tattoed in his brain... It'll be interesting to see how the maniac's army will look in the end.

The Perry bros. continue to... well, amaze is the correct word. I'd hazard a guess that some plastic knights, with varying armour/horse barding will be included in this release, with hopefully plastic medieval artillery in the form of cannons or trebuchet after that.

By the way, could anyone provide a links to where I can find the plastic Nap french line infantry? The Perry's homepage is better structured than a lot I've seen (in effect it's simple), but except for missing pictures of available miniatures everywhere across their ranges, I've come upon the major bugbear there of not being able to find the French. Thanks beforehand!

Cause of the way the Perry site works I can't link you directly but I can try to give you directions.

Select range --> French Napolionic Army 1815
Select a box set --> scroll right down to the bottom, 8 up from the bottom is FN100 Plastic French Napolionic Infantry. Lots of pictures in there.

I think that's what you were wanting.

For separate metal arms, so far they have not released them for their previous plastics (ACW and Naps), though perhaps here they would make more sense. And they for sure have experience on doing that from the first multi-part Empire plastics (which had metal arms for command, crossbows and handguns). Though one could always write to them and suggest it.

However, as regards crossbows and spears, please notice that they are planning on releasing another set that comes with pikes, handguns and crossbows.

And I am also quite sure that they will release a bunch of dismounted men-at-arms in full plate and with two-handed weapons, though that might end up being in metal and not in plastic.

I would not expect plastic medieval artillery though - they have not released one for ACW either, where artillery is much more prevalent.

Thank you, neXus6! I discovered it quite shortly after posting, and in common manner forgot to check this thread. At least their website isn't amongst the top 10 worst.

After WotR I'd really like to see some Spanish War of Succesion (or more accurately, the Great Northern War with unikely 'superior' Swedish armies and a slowly, but dangerously learning Piyotr I, although this is highly unlikely since they're in the making of a plastic range of musket-armed men, bah). And then maybe Romans of any period, something west or east Asian, Indian civilizations in the current latin Americas and then hopefully with some Conquistadores, or even the Great War.

Brilliant looking models. I'm going to get some of these for an empire army. I've still got my old 4th edition war wagon and volley gun.

Just as I think I wont be able to afford another warhammer army!

    Yay!

EDIT: I'm assuming you'll get about 40 models for Ł15 as with their Napoleonic plastics.

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

I would expect the pricing to be similar to their existing ACW/Napoleonic figures. Though the exact amount of models per box has not been announced - but presumably it will be lots.

OTOH I received a few days ago a bunch of later 15th century period models that I had ordered last month before these news were announced. They are brilliant models, but I am afraid that they will be slightly shadowed over by this new Perry range. Better get painting them soon before these Perry releases will start hitting the shelves.

More plastic goodies for my armies. Those will be my first Perry Miniatures plastic minies. I've got a fair number of their metal El Cid range.

I am still amazed at the number of minies I can buy with the money I don't spend on a certain "other" companies high priced plastic minies.

I don't recall Perries having a dedicated El Cid range - do you mean their 1st Crusade range?

Good for the Perry boys! This looks like the beginning of a very lovely range of minis. Although for historical wargaming I prefer chariot and classical period armies, these look so good I anticipate purchasing at least a couple of boxes when they get released. I've painted some of their metal Hundred Years War miniatures and was quite impressed with the degree of detail and personality they are able to convey.

Opps...sorry about that. Way back when I first heard about the Perry brothers minies, the site I got them from mentioned how well they would work for El-Cid type cav and foot. For me they do work well.

Those guys do make good minies.

Wow. Those are very nice. Will be adding to my historical collection soon. May just decide to do a empire army with them too!

I'm betting that a lot Empire players are going to use these, after seeing the new prices on the latest Empire releases.

I know I'm looking at them with very keen eyes.

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Some of those look promising as Bretonnian Men-at-Arms and bowmen. I'm not a big fan of GW's current Bret peasant range - they are a little too dirty and ridiculous for my taste. I'm a fan of the 5th Ed. MaA, however, it's annoying trying to track down an entire unit. My only concern is that the Perry models may lean a bit too far in 'other' direction, being a bit too 'modern' and 'clean' to represent Bret peasants. Oh well, I'll just have to wait and see.

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Well, these models are intended to represent the soldiers of the later 15th century, so they certainly are likely to look more modern than the 5th edition Bretonnian infantry (also sculpted by the Perries AFAIK) which look more like early 14th century in their style.

OTOH Wargames Factory is supposed to be at some point coming out with some HYW plastics that might look like 14th century.

Thanks for that Griefbringer. I must admit though, some of the Perry infantry could pass for Bret models. It's just the more heavily armoured ones that would stand out (but could work for an Empire army).

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Well, you could claim that they are from southern Bretonnia, close to the Tilean border, where the style of dress tends to be influenced by the Tilean fashions. Why should we expect all the Bretonnians to dress identically?

Speaking of Tilea, these figures could possibly make for a fine Tilean Dogs of War list - especially the supposed second box that should contain crossbows and pikemen. The original GW DoW human figures were sculpted by the Perries, were definitely late 15th century in their style of dress and armour, and were a bit slighter of build than most other GW human figures of the era.

I think a massive state troop army will be on the cards once these are released.

That or a men at arms based Bret army.
