Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

I just hope and pray that the Perry's release German landsknechts with 2 handed swords ("forlorn hope" regiments or something?) that were used for knocking aside pikes etc... That'd properly shaft GW and their Ł25 for 10 equivalent goldsword models... Hilarious, the Perry twins, accidentally (or on purpose, dur dur durrrrrrr!) working to bring down GW from the inside by undercutting them. GENIUS, but also, MADNESS!

14th Century.....etc....I gotta remember that for telling the better half when I am ready to order those Perry minies.

They look good, if the price is fair...

Armoured Swiss. I submitted a separate unarmoured entry, but it hasn't popped up yet. Vote early, vote often.

As long as the release ANY landsknechts I will be a happy man. Alas, Landsknechts only showed up after the Burgundian wars (actually they were founded because of the success of the Swiss in these wars), and thus will likely not appear in their WotR-range - even when the last WorT-pretender died as leader of the German Landsknechts in French service at Pavia, the Black band, when they where slaughtered almost to the last man by their comrades under Imperial command.

Well, the Perry twins have already sculpted a whole range of lovely landsknechts for Foundry, besides having done a lot of the GW Empire range.

For those needing greatsword substitutes, late 15th century men-at-arms in full plate armour should not be a bad choice, though.

The only date estimates I recall having stated were "not anytime soon" and "sometime this year".

Well if it is sometime this year I'll be happy. It's nearly halfway through the school year (even though I'm out, it's still the way I relate to the calendar), and I can always work on some converted knights as a project.

Be assured that I have all of these (some 120 Landsknechts from their Foundry range and a full Empire army mainly based on their GW plastics). My use for the new GW plastics however is limited.

But with Foundry insisting on an irreal exchange rate for the BP there is no way I buy anything more from them. Perry plastics would be the jackpot for my Renaissance armies. Until then, I await the incoming Metals from Eureka (Gendarmes for now) and TAG (nice Spanish there, and plans for all participants of the Italian wars).

I hope that the WotR range will at least some conversion options for other troop types of the later wars.

As for the unreal Foundry exchange rates, one way to get around those would be to order from Caliver books:

    http://www.caliverbooks.com/

You get to pay in pounds, and the postage for miniatures is rather low.

OMG, that's great! Thanks for the heads up. Being able to pay a direct conversion from US$ to UKŁ is a big improvement, but also...

"All FIGURE & PAINT orders over Ł16.50 sent post free worldwide!!"
...is also nice, when I just need a few packs.

EDIT: Yeah just went shopping there, I'll save about 40% doing it that way just because of the screwed up exchange and postage at Foundry's site.

Notice that the Caliver books also stocks quite an array of other miniatures, not to mention rules and informative historical books of all sorts.

I think they only started stocking Foundry stuff a month or two ago.

These guys will make fantastic archers and halberdiers for an Empire army.

I wish they'd do a plastic renaissance range, they're probably sick of sculpting puffy sleeves though! A fortune is there to be made however...

Re: Perry twins announce WotR range

Back to the original topic, there has been an update on the topic lately:

    http://theminiaturespage.com/news/878106/

    Highlights:
    - should be available for Christmas
    - 40 models per box (4 in full armour)
    - 30 sets of arms with bows, 18 sets of arms with bills, and (unspecified number of) various command arms

    Thanks for the update.

I'm really looking forward to these.

I mentioned the French cavalry to my friend on Saturday and I think he'll be getting some of those to induct into his imperial guard. That means I should hopefully get a look at the quality of their plastics before I buy.

This will be great - I've always wanted to do an empire army or Bretonnians but I just can't stand the GW figures (the new ones) and the prices that come with em.

But 30-40 models and if we apply their costs typical for plastics that is 15-20 pounds I may just get a crap ton of these guys too.

Being a hobbyist today is an amazing thing - makes you wonder how 30 years ago people managed! (paper cut outs and lots of proxies so I've heard!)

Has anyone bought the Perry Napoleonic French? I like the models - but the attached heads make them less than ideal. Which is why I am waiting for Vitrix to make some greatcoat French.

I am actually really impressed by the WotR Figures. Definitely plan on getting a couple boxes to do my empire army. The Empire range is too over the top, where as these guys are exactly what i would have imagined troops to look like. the quality also looks to be quite good, so i eagerly bide my time to order them.
