Buying "a few more" sounds like a good plan. I am looking forward to those cav. Plastic minies ARE my favorites these days. Fact is they are all I buy these days.

I am therefore I think OR I think therefore I am?
I just got rid of 90% my GW Empire minis... knowing that the Perry's Men-at-Arms are coming, and loving Warlord's ECW Cuirassiers, I'm switching to these brands to make use of my old Human Regiments of Renown, to create truly beautiful and realistically-proportioned Empire armies--albeit without puffy sleeves...
Why adding Gripping Beast Vikings and Saxons and whatnot, I might finally be able to create my long-planned "Middenheim militia" for truly unique looks!
I can see a great summer ahead of me, oh yes!
Pacorko Is there a chance of photos of your new "Empire" army as it grows?
I have been thinking about inserting some of my WG and PM minies. I doubt my regular opponents and I will be pushing GW system's armies around any time soon.![]()
I am therefore I think OR I think therefore I am?
Will do, CH! I will be getting a new camera kit by the end of the months and, hopefully, a lot of boxes full of the thingies I need to replace what once was GW's sole territory.
The only things I am keeping are seven characters mages, them penintent loonies and a few goldswords I am too fond of.
Everything is now finding its place on the shelves of another good home.
Oh, boy, I guess my Roman/Celt project for Hail Caesar will be complemented with lots of livery and armor!
I just hope summer will be enough time to get three decent forces built and painted to an acceptable standard... I mean, I won't do less than 15 a day. Or so I say.![]()
It's taking GW so long to update the Empire Knights, Perry's have got their first. That suits me fine, these will be more to my taste than modern GW offerings. My issue is that my WotR doesn't have that high of a historical demand for mounted MaA and i already have the Scurrers and have started on a heavy cav unit with all the rest of the metal characters. Going to have a glut of cavalry that will never really see a battle. Will look kewl tho.
I feel another project brewing, eek!
Chevalier de Bayard might get done after all. Bayard and the Duchy of Ferrara for obscurity. Although saying that, Bayard is into the 16th century, armour and clothing starts to look crap compared to Gothic, so maybe not.

If you are looking for an excuse to get a good bunch of the mounted knights, I would suggest taking a look at all the wonderful conflicts going in the continent around the time. How about putting together a French ordonnance force and using that to face your WotR English in a hypothetical 1475 continental expedition battle?
Aye, very possible as the French were still fielding Heavy Cav as their primary offence right?
My Lancastrians are mostly the deserted Calais garrison from Ludford anyway, so would make sense to build a small french contingent to fight against.
Interested to see what form this option armour takes with the plastic MaA, will it be armoured reins like the current Perry WotR metals, or will it be full continental barding (and thus more fitting with warhammer etc)
Was tempted to sculpt some over eBob horses and cast for myself, could save alot of time and money on that project if these plastics have nice armour in the box.

Yep, the French ordonnance forces were built around a core of men-at-arms (who still liked to fight mounted unlike some silly English kniggets), supported by more lightly armed coustiliers as well as archers.
Depending on the style of armour, those mounted men-at-arms could also work for the core of an Italian condottiere force.
Too bad I have more mounted knights than I know what to do with. It would rock to get q fully armored men-at-arms on foot set eventually.

My guess you can convert it rather easily with all the available kits and with almost not need to use gs, Sam.
Yes, but I'm cheap and lazy![]()

I've just finished assembling some of the original WOTR kits. From 2 box sets you can get 14 models with greaves and either plate or brigandine and mail torsos, full face helms and equipped them with hammers and halberds. If you wanted even more heavily armoured models there are plate torsos with no leg armour that you could substitute for the brigandines or add to the unit for a larger number of armoured warriors.
The way I'm looking at it, for every unit of greatsword equivalents I'll get 2 free units of halbediers and more ranged troops than I know what to do with.
If that's too expensive and you want only men at arms, there's always the metals and characters, which are both roughly Ł1 per model IIRC.

Yeah, the only models I lack for my human army are heavily armored foot warriors. So, while I love the perry plastics, I'll wait. I've got plenty to paint anyways. Plus, I really am cheap. I only spend about $200 a year, and that includes rules, paints, etc. It's why I don't have more stuff than there are grains of sand, and I'm slowly working through 15 years of piled up stuff!

I do have about 100 foot knights (non-GW). I have plenty of "useable" knights on barded/armoured horses. I will be buying PM's "correct" versions when they are released.
I have plans to buy some more of PM's, WoTRs, mercenaries. They ARE a pleasure to paint. Thanks to Perry Miniatures and Warlord Games plastic minies, I will have PLENTY of fine plastic goodies to paint until I can't anymore.![]()
I am therefore I think OR I think therefore I am?
In case Perries would end up going for that, we probably wouldn't see it before December 2012 earliest.
I wouldn't be too optimistic about seeing them though - it is a subject where your average historical gamer might be unlikely to buy more than one boxed set. Then again, Perries have also done plastic ACW zoauves, so it might depend a lot on how they feel about the subject.
Considering that the existing command sprues could be perfectly well utilised for a dismounted MAA set, all that would be needed would be one more small sprue to complement them: 4 fully armoured bodies, 6-8 sets of arms with various weapons (poleaxes, two-handed warhammers, swords etc.) and 8 heads with well-enclosing helmets would go a long way. Throw enough of such a sprue in a box with a couple of command frames, and there would be a fine set.
No, I'm very lazy.
Has anybody purchased any of the metals? My games order next month will include characters and artillery from the perrys' WOTR line. Are they good quality casts?

I have got all of the artillery sets, and four different infantry sets. Pretty good stuff in my opinion. Haven't tried assembling any of the artillery pieces yet, though.
The Perry brothers seem to be willing to step up and issue minies that are not run of the mill poses and or selections.
For a successful company like PM not every minie molded "MUST BE" a record setter on it's sales numbers.. The brothers do appear to care about making what their (potential) customers want.
I am therefore I think OR I think therefore I am?
I've purchased each Metal infantry sets, Warwick mounted set, the 3 Scurrers sets and 2 cannon variants, ended up with 2 of each which i'm still not sure if i got refunded for.
Initial reaction was that they were the best thing since sliced bread, now i think what impressed me is the subject matter and variation of the range more than a flawless execution in sculpting/casting. Proportions are solid, posing is varied and the whole style suits me with its understated, natural detail.
-The casting is pretty solid, only a few with model lines of any real degree. Obviously clean up is slowed by the detail and layering of armour, but all in all, no problem there.
-I've found just a few horses with pitted, crumbly areas that i have milliput washed and sanded with micromesh.
-Several models have 'back filled' areas to avoid undercuts for casting, some of the areas are larger than i would like and take me a while to drill out and clean up (don't like large void areas being painted black, prefer to spend an hour removing the metal)
-A fair few very minor casting defects. Little holes on straps etc that i've GS'd, again, no big deal.
So really, they suffer from the usual issues with metal casting, but the a lower degree than a lot of ranges. Let me note that i'm going overboard with cleaning up my metals somewhat, mostly to try out Micromesh and milliput washes, hoping to paint these to a higher than table top standard. For those looking to give them a cursory wash and removal of mold lines, they are great.
What makes the difference is the price. Looking at the price per model, they are excellent. My only actual complaint is that some areas can look a little rushed, detail is a bit blobby, somewhat i line the the mercenary plastics, slightly lower quality that the first box. Give the turn around on releasing the Mercs and Metal range, it makes sense that poses and detail were altered at the casting phase rather than spending months planning and sculpting perfect posing first (in relation to casting requirements)
Overall, i love them and intend to buy the rest of the metal mounted characters (even tho the new mounted plastics will be along by the time i can get round to painting them) and also intend to pick up the weapon packs and metal european halberd/pikemen. Perry sculpting style suits me perfectly and these models are affordable, varied and solidly cast.
