GW's recent Ork releases for 40k really impressed me. I felt like taking a bit of a break from painting Emperor's Children and I really liked the metal characters and Nobz plastics so I picked up some models. The plastic Nobz kit is so flexible it practically eliminated the need for conversions (I usually like to personalise models at least a little bit.
Apart from being great models the orks were also really good to paint. I realised that I actually had quite a few pieces, especially with the conversions and other stuff I had planned. Enough in fact to put in a log.
As I'm not collecting an ork army any time soon I decided I'd just keep a log of all the various ork (and orc) models I'm painting.
So far I have a couple of Nobz finished along with Badrukk. 2 other Nobz are almost done and I'm planning something involving Forgeworld bikers. I'm even considering getting a stompa.
I only thought about this log after I'd painted the first model so rather unusually this log won't be starting with a WIP. As I get the other models done though I'll take some photos and go through the process stage by stage.
This first model was an absolute joy to paint. The large metal plates allow you to go to town on the blending and the patterns. Orks are also perfectly suited to doing damage effects for, something I really enjoy. I always try to make my damage effects look (hopefully) quite subtle and realistic though. I'm not all that fond of models that look like the painter was just attempting a study in doing battle damage.
Anyway, without further rambling, the first of hopefully many orks.
Its early days but comments and suggestions are very much appreciated as always.
