    Rottahn's Iron Crusaders Plog

well ive decided to start a plog. i have an extensive marine army, which i have used as black templars but now im thinking about playing normal marines, since black templars dont function with 5th edition.
hope you like them. first off, my landraider to show you my paint scheme

next up two things im working on. an ironclad dreadnought and a master of the forge with conversion beam. the idea for the conversion beam is basically a plasma cannon on steroids. i plan on using the green rods from the necrons for that added little uniqueness.
i think my army will have two drop podding ironclads, and 2 lascannon/missle launcher dreads for the army.

hopefully i will have about 2 hours to paint and finish my master of the forge guy

    Hi,
Your paint scheme looks good, but may I suggest watering down the colors a bit? And they look like they would need some additional layers, to blend them in a better way. Or maybe its the photographs that washes out the paintwork, its hard to tell, as they are pretty small.
I agree about the whole 5ed thing, the Templars did lose some of its “sting”, so I'm all with you there. But by all means, keep the scheme as its look good, and I've always been a big fan of the Templars myself. Keep it up and I'll bee watching.

No, I actually wasnt. Wrote a background story and everything Aparently.....I share the Crusader Genesead

And about the skin, Im lazy when it comes to that. Just use Tallarn Flesh and a doubble Ogryn Flesh wash, with a little watered down Brown Wash in the eyes. That gives you the tanned look, but if you want a little lighter skintone, just use Elf or Dwarf flesh, dependong on how dark the skin needs to be. The rest of the recipe stays the same though.

so here is the master of the forge. he is about 80% done. i just have to add little extras and of course, base him. i thought id pick a spiffy generic character from the new space marines since i wont be using my emperor's champion anymore. anyways i chose pedro kantor because his rules are amazing. i didnt quite like the way he looked, so i converted him slightly.

    my "platoon the movie" guy.

well i picked up my AoBR box and it has a squad of tacticals which i will put together and paint probably two days from now. i currently dont have any flamers in my army, since i dont like them. but since generic SM get them for free, why not?

Oh and today i decided i dont like the hammer my dreadnought has. any suggestions on how to make his hammer look better would be very welcomed. maybe add more green stuff to where the hammer joins the handle or something? also the bottom of the handle looks rough.

well i think i finished my techmarine and pedro for now. i might think about making him all red like the previous fluff said they were. but the new fluff shows them being painted like their chapter, so whatever. as a quick aside im also doing some heresy era emperor's children.

Nice stuff you have going here! I think that you should model your dreads hammer like that of the chaos one. If you could get a hold of one all it would take is some filing to take the chaos iconography off and would be suitable. Alternativley, if you are pretty good at conversions and the like (which it looks like you are) you could just make one yourself. A little bit of plasticard tubing for the armature, a few extra sprues glued together and cleaned up to make the actual 'hammer' and then some trim added with thin plasticard of green stuff and I'd say you have it. I'd use the close combat arm the dread comes with and either cut the arm off completely, or just cut the hand off and add a hammer. Hope this makes sense.

    Re: Rottahn's Iron Crusaders Plog

    thanks for the input!
i checked out one of my old catalogues and i dont think i would like the dreadnought hammer. it looks kinda small and stunted. when i read the description of the assault hammer, i thought of something massive and huge. i will probably try something with plasticard this weekend, since i picked up 2 more dreads, an old iron hands iron father, and the limited edition techmarine with the servo harness. im also thinking of maybe trying something with greenstuff. im also thinking about adding more guitar wire to give it a weird and fanciful look as well.

people might not like it, but im really leaning toward a master of the forge, 6 dreads(1 ven, 2 ironclad, 3 hellfire) and then a bunch of vanilla tac squads with Hbolter/flamer/Pfist. if i have any extra points i might sink 150 pts into some attacks bikes.

    Re: Rottahn's Iron Crusaders Plog

no one probably looks at this except for me, but oh well.
ive decided that im going to drop all my other 40k armies, and just my own chapter(the iron crusaders) my only army. however, this army can be used as space wolves/dark angels/ultramarines/blood angels with the relevant models. although im not tired of black templars, i can see that i need to branch out. this being said my current 4K points of marines, will probably end up being close to 10K worth of points, and currently im saving up for a warhound titan(or maybe a reaver).

Below you have a master of the ravenwing(fully magnetized), which i think looks amazing. also i have my ravenwing attack squad which will be a scoring unit. also a razorback 'stronos' pattern. this thing is basically just a scratch built thing. very WIP.

    Re: Rottahn's Iron Crusaders Plog

some more additons to my double wing army.
im thinking the armylist is like this:
    sammael on landspeeder
    belial with claws
5 termies, cyclone(all termie squads will consist of 3 lightning claws, and two with fists)
    5 termies, cyclone
    5 termies, cyclone
5 termies, assault cannon, banner of deathwing
ravenwing attack squad consisting of 6 bikers, 2 of which have melta guns, and one of them is a medic.
    dreadnought, extra armor, lascannon

    thats my 1750 list.

as for the pictures, i have my new drop-pod(which i wont be using for deathwing unfortunatly) and my "belial" model. he is a converted lysander model, which i think turned out pretty darn good. i especially like how my chapter symbol turned out on his chest. it is hard to see, but its a white sword. i also game his claws a blue "lightning" effect on his claws. i wish my camera was better.
