    Re: My Traitor Guards

I've just stumbled here too and I'm awestruck, I think something dark and hidden is telling me to get my finger out and get my own Traitors done...

First there were the Traitor guard:- Win
Then there were the Mini Cthulhu's:- Win+
And then there is the massive Cthulhu sculpt:- Win++

A thread full of win, good work fella, thumbs up.

This is such an amazing log. The paint job is so dark and gritty. Keep up the good work can't wait to see more!

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Thanks alot guys, i hope i can inspire you as much as you inspire me!

I only got stuff for you marine-lovers over here this update, but hopefully someone might get a nice idea from these dudes.

I have been working on my Word Bearers, and my casting is progressing! I have made the first halves of all the bits for my mechaspiders, then I ran out off silicon. So now I'm waiting for the next batch.

On to the models. I felt my Dark Apostle looked abit boring on his basic flocked base, so i made it abit more interesting.

At first i was gonna put a Tau there, but I have already done that, so then I got the idea of putting a Gue'la there instead. As we all know, there is nothing more wretched in the world than a traitor, so it felt quite fitting.

And here he is, my main man.

This is actually a model i started working on back when the current GK Terminators were released, and you can see some of his 2:ed stuff, like his bolter. The left shoulder pad is from an RT era terminator too.
The cape is from a chaos warrior, with the fur made from greenstuff. Also, the scripture cloth hanging between his legs is made from greenstuff.

I also wanted a Librarian for my brave rebel marines, and I had an old Mephiston model in a bits box. A bolt pistol, an RT era chaos sword and a familiar, and he was good to go!

The familiar carrying a book is made almost exclusively from parts found on the flagellant sprue, with some guitar wire to make appendixes (or whatever it's called?).

I don't feel they are done paint wise, they are not as nice as much of the other stuff i have done. I guess its because it old models, with old paint jobs just painted over. I should have removed all the old paint before i think. :/

I'm gonna try and get my GK-based terminators up to shape next, hopefully the paint jobs on those wont be as hard to fix up.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

    Hey :-),

nice update, the convertion and parts of your "main man" are very nice, he has a nice touch, the only thing I don't like is the blade underneath the bolter.
It just looks like it couldn't cut a single thing and is far too heavy to handle the bolter itself. I would go with a smaller choice, like a convertion out of a knife or a sword, I think there are enough choices which could look deadlier :-)
The scribbling of the head and esp. the tabard is well, well done, hats up.
The green part in the second picture of him, is that supposed to be? Maybe yes, if no it seems to be some uncovered green stuff :-)
I think the paintjob fits very well, only think I am missing is a eyecatcher like a very strong colour or a Glow behind his head or somewhere.
His cloak seems to look "old", though, maybe a highlight more on the higher waves of the cloak :-)

As always this is just an oppinion from me, maybe you are inspired from some of the ideas :-) It is a very fine and good paintjob, much finer details that I could do :-)

    Great update,

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Thanks for the critique! I have been contemplating redoing his entire gun. Maybe i should just rip it off and make a new one that looks better.

I agree on the blade, its too big, and it blocks his ability to reload too. And the green thingy is a cable, I wanted to give him some more colours, but i guess it didn't turn out too well?

Great use of the old Rhino, very colorful and in keeping with the fluff of a traitor pdf or guard unit. Some awesome conversions.

I hadn't thought of this in that moment, now that you are saying it it's much clearer so yes, it's a good choice with a green cable, nothing wrong there :-)

Hope you will find a good solution with your gun and the blade :-)

I have to say, absolutely stunning work by kitbashing parts from Empire Flaggelants, Chaos Marauders and pig-iron heads together to form traitor guard/cultists! I love them! Consider your "Totgeboren pattern cultists" as copied..

Then came the Lesser Cthulhu daemons. Unbelieveable that those are infact Driads with the green-stuffed "squid/driad" heads positioned the other way around.

Last, the Cthulhu himself.. awesome, just awesome! Love the torn skin!

Thanks alot! Though i must say the cultists are just made from flagellants, pig iron heads and Cadian arms i had left from another project. No marauder parts in there at all. Though some of my standard guards have some marauder parts in there.

Hmm, I guess I haven't commented here before, but I've been following the thread for a while, and it's got some nice stuff.
The last update with the characters is great! I especially love the scriptured tabard on the termie-sorcerer.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

The dark Apostle is an excellent model. A lot of character and nice use of parts. This one reminds me of the nice character model conversions they used to show in the old white dwarfs, back when it used to have content beyond the catalogue...

    Keep it up!

Really, really sweet! I'm especially impressed with the dryads. I'm facepalming myself right now because I didn't think of it for my own Lovecraftian demons.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Read through this whole thread now, and I am in total love with your traitor guard now... my favorite has got to be the "hero" on the defeated Tau - great pose, and so much atmosphere surrounding that particular miniature. Very, very well done.

    totgeboren,
Is this where you got your carbine / SMG idea from?

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Thanks alot for the critique and positive feedback. I have reworked my Dark Apostle some, but I'm not done with the painting. This time around he turned out much better I think. Pics later.

Actually not. It was some other log, but its a great idea, so I'm not surprised it has spread.

Anyways, no update without pics, and this is what I have been working on lately.

For my Guards, a unit of plastic Stormtroopers before the basecoat.

And also, my sentinel Spiderbots are starting to take form. This one is made from the first parts I made, and they are kinda rough. Therefor I needed to fill some gaps with green stuff.
The molds and parts I made after this one turned out much much better, with crisper details. Well you live you learn I guess.

I do understand its kinda hard to make anything out, since its still transparent. But hopefully it will look nice after a paintjob.

I have started painting the Techmarine and my first Spiderbot.

My Techmarines/Obliterators will look kinda like this.

Here he is a Terminator for scale. Note that the Terminator is horribly painted, and will be fixed up.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

As said, the Spiderbot has got some paint. Its not done, and I am certain the next one will look much better. I didn't really know how to manage to line the parts of the molds up correctly when I made these, so the parts look very rough.

Still, I'm quite happy with my concept, and it will be fun having a bunch of these guys running around the table.

Moar paint! I need to fix the muzzle of the gun in some way, but other than that, I'm happy with this little critter.
