Dude, that defiler is so original, some bold restructuring of the back legs to give them more of a mammal leg posture rather then the crab ones could be cool, thats a also a **** load of work. lovely army all around though, finish up that CTHULU.

That was the in fact the original plan, but they just looked too weak that way.
I could ofc had built them up and made new feet/hooves, but the arms didn't really work with that aesthetic, so I made it a bit less original, but on the other hand, it was done in two evenings.
It has got two smaller front legs that don't show up much in the pics (since they are of semi-transparent resin), but with paint i think it will look fine.

I got an exam this Wednesday, but I hope to be done with Great Cthulhu by the end of this week. "Hope" is the key-word here. :P

Perhaps it looks a little too Mechanical?
You could go with organically shaped/warped panels that suggest metal as flesh or go with the barely contained "organic" element seeping out as suggested by GW's Soulgrinder.
One thing that occured to me was that it might need more Bulk, I know huge armoured carapaces are de rigueur in 40K but in this particular case some extra mass above and behind the head could give the model more gravitas and perhaps help make those Defiler claws look a little less oversized.

Tot, have you had a look at Cthulhutech? It doesn't necessarily gel with 40K sensibilities to well being as it is a fusion of Anime/Mecha and the Cthulhu mythos BUT seeing how other people have approached the "Lovecraft in the future" idea might just give some inspiration, especially in regard to merging organic and technological.

    Keep up the good work

++++EDIT> Oh, and good luck in the Exam.

I think that is a mold line (a really bad one). I have had success using thin (.2mm or less) plasticard or greenstuff if you are going for a more rope-like look.

How dare you accuse me of having mold lines!? :P
It's not a mold line, I made the strap from the thin soft plastic that greenstuff stripes come in. I had a thin stripe of the right length next to me when I made the fig, and figured "Why not?"

Its really quite useful, since it a tiny bit elastic. If you glue one edge in place, you can stretch it a bit and glue the other in place, meaning you get a nice impression of weight.

I'm really liking how this lot are coming out, I've always love combined Traitor Guard/Marine armies, it's what I'm really going for in Epic. Also the tin hat WWI look just rocks.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Thanks! And now the Defiler is getting painted. I'm not done, it still need some wear and tear, but it's progress at least.

I think I need to work some more on the metals, but the truth is I really hate painting vehicles. Oh well, the worst part is over now.
In its first game, it killed a Tyrannofex AND a Hive Tyrant! In the second game the Hive mind got wiser, and immobilized it turn one. Still, it has got a fearsome battlecannon that put some hurt on the nids throughout the game.

No offense meant. That is just what it looked like to me. Your idea of using the thin plastic that Greenstuff comes in is a great one matter of fact.

The work on the Defiler is tops. I like it a lot better now that it has some paint, and I can see the detail.
