Thanks for all the kind words, it really makes it so much more fun to build stuff when someone gives you a compliment.

And thanks Lexington for noticing my old daemon. I'm still proud of that one, even though it has some glaring flaws.

Thats a really good idea! His current tail just doesn't work at all.

I havn't gotten any more real work done on Cthulhu, but atleast the King in Yellow and He Who Speaks as No Other (or just "The Voice") are built, but not painted yet.

The Thing, they whisper, wears a silken mask
Of yellow, whose queer folds appear to hide
A face not of this earth, though none dares ask
Just what those features are, which bulge inside.
Many, in man's first youth, sought out that glow,
But what they found, no one will ever know.

    The King in Yellow

    Yellow and Red

I am also working on some more mundane models for my Guards.
A Preacher, an Icon bearer for my CCS and a junior officer.

None of these are fully painted yet, but you can see the general direction they are going in.

Where did you get the parts for the king in yellow? Did you sculpt him too?

Most of it is the WFB Imperial Wizard (I really need to pick up that kit), with some greenstuff additions.

As was said, its just an empire wizard with a scepter made from parts from the wizard sprue and the top from the Black Templar sprue. The face was given a happy mouth from greenstuff, and some tentacles that stick out from under his robe. He also got a tube sticking out of his belly made from guitar string.

his left arm was also repositioned using greenstuff, to get a more open pose. normally the arm is supposed to hover over a globe or book.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Yay, got some stuff done on my little Cthulhu.

    One more hand.

Its kinda funny. I had decided that the "genestealer-esque" tail was the way to go, but when I had a little blob of gs left, an idea struck me.

Some thin veins on the tail and its good to go! Now its just the wings left really.

Absolutely stunning work! So much detail. And a real good pose.
But your Traito Guard are tasty too. The officers especially. SHow some more of those please!

Just the thought of this makes me slightly nauseous, well done.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

Great Cthulhu still waits dreaming, but his mortal followers have gotten some reinforcements.

    10 more cultists

I have parts to make 6 more, and that would bring the numbers up to 36. That sounds about right in my mind. At first I was going for 40 or 50, but having played with 30, i got the feeling that more is really pushing it.

The Voice has gotten some paint too.

Also, the Voice count-as Chenkov, and he need 4 bodyguards. Just using models I had lying about didn't feel right, since he should have some cultists handpicked for their dedication and ruthlessness in combat.

    My favorites.

    And the redshirts

I think these dudes will turn out great with a nice paint job.

Ok, I must post. The Cthullu demon is amazing, is sad that you can´t find a model like that actually.
Also the guards are good ideas, and the chooice of Chenkov was ideal, a cult leader that thinks the lives of their followers are not necesary

Is the one holding the Melta from the Flagellants sprue? He has a really cool pose, at rest, but still ready for anything.

Yeah, everything except the melta and the head is from the flagellant spure. You can do quite alot with that sprue.

    Nice work.
I particularly like the paint job on the Voice. He has real character -- a convincingly menacing charisma.

Again, great work, Tot. The Cthulthu is just Ace. How do you do the thin flayed skin?, looks very nice.

The Voice is great, what parts did you use? The WFB wizard kit?

    Re: My Traitor Guards

    Thanks!

The flayed skin is done by working in layers. First I do muscles and anatomy, then I take some gs and let it harden for about 1 hour. At that point, its un-sticky and resilient enough to be flattened really thin. Then I just shape the really thin gs and apply. The tears in the skin is done by gently pulling the gs apart at this stage.

Then its just a question of hiding the joints between the different skin sections.

And yes, The Voice is made with parts from the WFB wizard kit, a head from the flagellant sprue, the hand is from a Pig Iron mini, and some other small parts.

    Re: My Traitor Guards

    Thanks! I really appreciate it.

Great Cthulhu has gotten some love, but not enough to show of just yet.

My command squad for The Voice has got a lick of paint at least.

(I am extra happy about the right arm of the model to the right. I made it from greenstuff, and I usually suck at making cloth, but practice makes perfect i guess. )
