Looking great! The red and green look really good. You've achieved a great sense of depth. Very well done!

They look great. Very purtySuch a lovely contrasting scheme and brilliant crisp painting.
Thanks for all the replies and the compliments.
I'll finish the converted guy tonight, after that I wanted to do the Warrior Priest (shown earlier), but instead I'll go for the two old school wizards (lores of fire and metal) and a Great Cannon (which I got for 5€; it's nice to know people who quit the hobby but are too lazy for ebay).
And as I don't want to totally bore you with all talk and no pictures:
Painted him alongside the Marksmen, so he didn't get that much love. Does anyone else think it's weird that I painted him now, so I can paint the remaining 15 Handgunners in batches of five? Cause I kinda do.![]()
Update time.
Conversion Man:
The cannon crew was rather tricky to build, kinda sucks that none of the bodies fit perfectly to the legs, forces you to GS the gaps.
Hopefully these will be done by next week.
Looking good! What's your recipe for the green? It's great! I might steal it for the Bretonnian Paladin I'm planning to paint...

Thanks.
The green recipe:
Orkhide Shade.
Snot Green leaving Orkhide in the recesses.
Highlight with Goblin Green.
Then wash with Thraka Green once or twice.
Done.![]()
Haven't had all that much time to spend painting, anyway update:
Experimented with skin color again, this time it's darker... I won't do it like this again, but it's acceptable enough for me. Next time all just stick to the Nightsword/WD recipe.
Next project is obviously the cannon itself.![]()
Good work as usual, are you painting the actual cannon next?

As others have said, your red and green in particular are great. I think the models must look really cohesive on the tabletop.

Actually I've never fielded them, but I'll try to find out tomorrow by taking some army shots.
Update: Well here's the cannon (was already assembled and undercoated (thickly!) when I got it).
I thought about doing a bronce barrel, but dismissed the thought. Mainly because I didn't have all the needed colors.(Is this even considered painted by GW criteria; 3-color-rule and such?)
Now I thought I'd make a base for the cannon, so it wouldn't look so dull.
Should I go with a round base, like the WH40k base for dreadnoughts and monsters, or rather take a WHFB chariot base? Or not take a base at all, because it might look stupid if it's standing atop a hill and half the base is sticking out?
Has anyone an idea on the subject?
Anyway pics:

nice undead warband there gargbot, the strong paintjob on the wolf is great and the pale skin tones look good too on the ghouls.
Things are looking very nice. I think you've used that article to great effect, the ideas you've tried and pulled off on the flesh areas are alot better if you don't mind me saying so. Tis a good improvement buddy. If i could make a suggestion on further improvement, I'd say start to try and pick out all the details on the miniature. For example, the guy with the cannonball has some tassal things around his neck and a collar to his shirt which you could pick out if you are careful (don't want to get any paint on your wonderful red tones). This would break up the red slightly. I hope that didn't come across as condesending, sometimes it's difficult to word things... I must say on a final note, you're very good at the eyes, far better than I am!
Is that an actualy rule, 3 colours or more? What you could do in that case is paint the wooden of the cannon a different colour to black. If you choose a reddy brown, like bestial brown or dark flesh, it may tie in with the bright reds of the crew. Something like a scorched brown base, layer dark flesh over the top, maybe mix in some bleached bone to line the hard edges like you've done with the black. For the cannon itself, maybe use some watered down devlan mud or gryphonne sepia over the barrel. This would differeniate it slightly from the other metallics if you apply it lighly, giving it a golden, brassy yellow tint. I don't know how you feel about weathering, but maybe look up Cool mini or not and the articles on verdigrass and rust. This would allow you to get some colour into the barrel, even if it's in the recesses. Is this even considered painted by GW criteria; 3-color-rule and such?)

On a sidenote, I had my cannon on a 40K round base from the Bloodthirster kit, which i decorated the same as the other bases. The only difference is you could use the accessories from the cannon kit if you have them and decorate it with that. I don't think there is anything wrong personally with adding a base; It keeps it inline with the army. I've seen people mount hellcannons on bases at least twice the size of the model before.
Your reds look great, almost looks like you dressed the guy with the cannon ball up in a real miniature shirt. As to the three color rule it will probably look good if you stick it on a base but if you dont stick it on a base id think you'd need another color

Thanks, always nice to know that people check out the first page too, instead of just skipping to the last page.
Thank you very much!
Thanks. Nope it doesn't come across as condescending, I appreciate every comment, especially your comments have been very helpful so far. I'll try to put more effort into the tassel and collar next time (have the next crew already undercoated), but I'm always afraid to change a mini after it's done, don't want to ruin it you know.
Although this shirt will be green on the next guy, still I know what you mean, I'll make it pop a little more.
I believe the 3-color-rule is a requisite to participate in a GW tourney. Not so important, I'm not planning to go to one in the foreseeable future. In general I like weathering, but with my Hochland army I want a very clean look, because I think as Hochland is the smallest state in the empire, they have to keep a very keen eye on all their equipment to keep up with the other states.
Yup, I've still got the accessories from the cannon kit, would probably add some to the base. I think with your and mdiscala's comment to go with the base it's settled.
Ok, on to the army shots... It's harder than I thought, this is what I came up with.
And I like this one:

Too cool. Everytime I see your empire I want to paint my own lol, which is bad for business considering I have more important things to do XD You've got a really uniform look going on, would look great to play against me thinks.
And i know what you about doing stuff to minis you think you've finished. You always go back to it in trepidation. Add the base to the cannon, and your on to a winner mate.
Are you going to buy the horrible empire knight kit?

Thanks!
I sure hope so.
If you've asked me a few days earlier I would have shouted: NEVER!
But as my only regular opponent is a dwarf player, they'd be of great use. My Luthor Huss is very lonely too. So I came to the conclusion to bid 5€ on the box when I see it on ebay, but to never ever buy them for more, or God forbid even directly from GW.
Even thought about getting the Gamezone ones, but they aren't cheap, and to play with none GW minis is a taboo I'm not yet ready to break. GW indoctrination is too strong.![]()
same here....the force is not yet strong enough in me. i am shamed![]()
