Re: Dark Elf Creature Feature.... and possibly more later

alright.. because i'm very indecisive and i can't sleep.. i've come up with something..
    bob_the_small,
you asked what i would be painting next... well i ask.. what should i paint next?
I've got several lists made out for 2500 pts.. i've got a baby due in february.. so it's crunch time for me.. i've been thinking about taking a couple lists and doing a rotation thing.. painting 300 350 pts at a time and then switching..
    my lists are:
dwarfs- based around anvil, warriors, hammerers, and a few warmachines
lizards- based around carnosaur, saurus warriors, and steggies
empire- based around what i've got.. lots of flagellants
dark elf- all khainite army (just cuz it looks neat!)
pick two and it will be my goal
A shake of this and a sprinkle of that, then BAM!!!! It's my PLOG! (contains dark elf, dwarf, lizards and more)
    Dark Elf revamp in progress...

add pva glue to the snow flock itself? Also layering might help

First of all great painting, the Dragon looks stunning. And this Gamezone cold one really is a beast. I have seen them on another log here on Warseer so I understand the difficulty with the scale and the teeth. Maybe check out this log for help.

There is only one entry in the list with a smiley, so it's absolutely clear what your subconsciousness is trying to tell you.

the flock GW sells doesn't do it for me.. i take a mixture of baking soda, pva glue, water, future floor wax, titanium white (folk-art) paint, and a tiny tiny tiny bit of ice blue paint.. i know it sounds like a lot.. but everything does a little something.. but its mainly baking soda for texture once it dries.. water to make it flow just a bit, floor wax to make it harden enough to use on movement trays, and the paint so it doesn't dry semi-clear.. you also may want to go over it with a watered down floor wax and white paint wash so it seals it and keeps any exposed baking soda from turning yellow

thanks for the heads up.. and the smiley was actually because a friend left me with all his empire stuff and it included 60 flagellants

alright so i've got a vote for each of the armies once so far..
i've come up with a plan for dwarfs and lizzies so far, because they are the army i own almost all the figures for.. empire i still would have to buy a bunch and i would need about 18 witch elves to finish that list
i have the two lists next to each other and point values written out next to the selections.. also the number of models in each.. i pair up a unit or character with another in the other army to have 8 pairs that total about 25-30 figures each.. i estimate if i had a bunch of sit down time after work in town i can finish each selection in about 2 weeks time (which is about how much time i usually am in town each month)...
the whole point of this is, kinda like harry's paint log, to finish two 2500 point armies before my baby is born and my paint time is drastically cut
for dwarfs and khaine i still need to buy about 80 bucks worth of figures, and empire probably closer to about 200.. and money is super tight right now so i'm leaning more dwarf/lizards
anyway.. thats the plan.. if anyone really wants to see the khaine army up and running, it's a LOT of skin to paint, but hey, i'm up for it.. keep the votes rolling!

thanks! the lizard is, i believe, the hero on cold one from game zone.. but they aren't called cold ones.. here's a little update after two nights of working on it.. things will get more vivid but you get the idea.

    Great log.
    Lots of beautifully painted stuff.
Love the Dark Elf army. (Great bases).
Really like Leon the w@nker. Great job.
Love the dragon conversion and this chariot does look great with the Gamezone cold one.
    Great stuff.
    keep it up.

I dont think green rims suit your models..... it clashes with the paint scheme.... nice chariot though...

sweet painting. you have a great coherency across your DE. i agree with bob about the bases though. the ones with more snow on looked better. the lord on dragon is a great conversion and i like the use of alternative mounts throughout.

I've often thought the same thing.. i thought about what to do for a long time and had it down to grey, dark brownish, or green.. i wanted to go for that snow is melting off and coming into springtime type thing.. grey is too close to black for me and brown didn't quite look right with the models.. do you have any ideas?

the one thing i go for is making sure i stick to the same colors throughout a list.. the more colors you use, the crazier it gets...
I will be adding the snow to these as well as any future DE models i do, it just dries out quickly so you have to mix and use any mixture so it sets right.. this is what all my bases with snow have under them too.. kinda a flattened grass look so you see this through the breaks in the snow.. i'll put an update up hopefully tonight of the finished army or at least all of my finished DE models including the mantacore conversion i did a while back
    thanks all!
