    Re: Tzen's Word Bearer's blog

I think the Word Bearer marines look great -- evocatively dark, but very "clean" in the painting. I particularly like the bone areas, and the shading on iconography such as the chaos wheels.
Speaking personally, I find that my reds get very orangey as I move from Gorey Red to Bloody Red (I use Vallejo Game Colors). Sometimes a tiny drop of blue gets things back into the hue spectrum I'm looking for. But that might be due to the fact that I use Cold Grey (very blueish in tint) as an accent color elsewhere in the army.

@Malika: I like the B&C tutorial, until the guy applies the black wash at the end. They end up looking very dark that way.

    Re: Tzen's Word Bearer's blog

I start off with Mechrite red then a badab black wash for a bas coat, then build up red gore to final highlights of blood red. Depending on the nature of the shading, i often use either a 1:2 mix of liche purple and red gore, or 1:2 of Midnight blue and Red gore.

Depends how much time i want to spend on a mini if im 100% honest with you >.<

    Re: Tzen's Word Bearer's blog

I got told im being made redundant in september, so ive been working my backside off for over time to make sure im comfy before going back to uni! However this has put a dent into my hobby time!

However, this is the finished result of my first word bearers squad totally complete!

Its mostly touch up work on the minis, but i did convert an icon bearer for them.

Not the best things ive ever painted, but i just wanted to get this squad done. And im glad they are

Wow. These are stunning! I love the freehand work and nice clean outcome of the troops. I don't think you should worry about them look Berzerker like, as they clearly look like WB's with all the extra details you've added. Can't wait to see some more of these! Word Bearers were my first CSM army so I've always had a foundness for them. Too bad no more Dark Apostle Maybe we'll get a new Legions book one day with lovely options for WB's again.

I'm having a really hard time staying motivated to finish these if im honest.

I love the fluff for the word bearers, but i just don't feel the paint job is up to my own standards. Like, i dunno, they aren't clean enough.

    They are awesome.

No sense in writing more cause I think they are painted damn well and would blow your opponent away by their pure awesomeness even before the first dice has been thrown.

These look brilliant. I love the Word Bearers, one of the better Chaos Space Marine factions with brilliant fluff. You've now given them brilliant models. Your colour scheme works really well. Top stuff, 5 stars from me!
