Thread: Oh no.. more WoC @.@

  1. #1

    El Aartos' chaotic blog

Sorry for spamming this forum full with some more WoC. I took some advice from a friend of me and deciced to post some pictures of my army here.
Although the army is nearly finished I still want to see what other people think of it.
Painting quality can differ a lot since I improved my techniques on each unit I painted so the oldest can be a bit crappier.

It all started with these guys, I bougt a model of Crom the Conquer and I really liked to paint these guys so I decided to play WoC and collect all of their hero models on foot since they are all awesome to paint.

These are the first models I painted. They are a bunch out of all since you can't see anything when I take a photo of a block of warriors but they all look somehow the same anyway. The rusty brown champion used to be a chosen but I deleted those from my armylist and he got demoted to unit champ.

Knights, any WoC army can't do anything without these. I put a lot of time in each of these and at the time I liked them a lot and I still do.

Marauders. I first decided them to be nurgle which resulted in the green ones but after that I thought Slaanes ones would be better and painted the second unit of them like the blue ones and they are doing very well till now.

These are my Nurgle knights or when I don't have the points left normal ones. They aren't finished yet because I just started with them. In my opinion they look the best in the army, due to the light green highlights instead of the mithril silver I used on all my other models.

One figure I like a lot is the juggernaut of Khorne. When this model was released I decided right away that I would buy this one. The juggernaut itself isn't that great but I put so much time in it that I just wanted to finish it.

These are my warhounds although the green ones look a lot like Skaven plaguemonks =P They are plaguemonks but I liked them so much that I put them in my army to yell and shout and make noise for Chaos.

And last but not least, my sorcerer lord. I scrapbuilded the disk from two warrior banners and the model is from Rackham that I found somewhere in a store and actually fits on it.
Hope you like it a bit, feedback is always welcome because I want to develop my skills more and more.

I second Breazer on the blue hero on the right; which paints did you use, if I may ask?

Owh, and what kind of leaves are you using to base your army? They're looking pretty nice, although it might've looked nice with a few roots and small rocks amongst the leaves for variation...?

I did a black basecoat on the blue hero and then some thinned down shadow grey on it. I kept the brush almost dry so that you could only see it when the paint was dry. After that I applied a few more of those layers shadow grey untill it was that sort of blue. I did the same thing on the blue marauders but that's only one layer.
For the bases I used a very old bag of woodish stuff, I even don't know what it is. The green flock are just green flocks used for model trains. And I'll make the bases a bit more detailed but I want to roughly finish this army and then I'll add some more details. So if you have some ideas I'll be glad to hear them ^^
    Tnx for the comments guys!

Wow! Really nice work. I like the color scheme for the warhounds. The knights are great as well.

I really admire your painting (especially those nurgle knights! the highlights really make them stand out), but your basing does not do your painting skills justice and I think the overall look could be much improved by spending a little time on the bases.

    Just a simple suggestion:

    - Paint the sand black
    - Highlight with codex grey --> Fortress grey
    - Paint sides of bases with Scorched Brown
    - Use some GW static grass and GW snow to top it off

Easy and doesn't take much time if done in large batches.

    just my 2 cents

I agree with stonetroll, dude ure painting skills are good dont ruin them with what really looks like straw on the bases.

Try snow as a base seeing as woc are from the north.

If gw snow is a bit expensive try bicarbonate of soda, water and pva glue. (3,1,1)

I have a woc army(wip) and i used that mixture its sick, i.e amazing.

I'll try some things. The stuff that I put on the bases is quite loose and I hope I can highlight or paint it because when I go with a brush over it, it's coming off. What kind of stuff do you guys use on the bases? I want some flock on it but I don't know which flock can be painted.

Tnx for the great comments guys I put one of my Nurgle knights on CMON and it scores a 6.6, something I never expected XD

Atm I'm busy with my daemon prince and more knights will follow.

I'll try some things, but the snow will definitely be there. But I don't know if I'll do it with the Nurgle knights, maybe some rotten brown snow.

Next weekend I'll buy batteries for my camera since my cellphone screws up and I can't take any pictures for now. But then I'll have finished another knight and some parts of my DP

For my woc i did snow with magical blue water were the snow melted, try your idea with rotten green pools of water to break it up and add detail, should look kick but wicked.
