Thread: Vaaish's All things Epic (and the ocassional 40k/BFG)

Re: Vaaish's All things Epic (and the ocassional 40k/BFG)

Yes, it's been ages since I posted. No I haven't done a whole lot either. But I CAN finally say these strike cruisers are now complete which is great news for me. They've also been the longest running paint project for me. Mainly I wanted to push things a bit in terms of blending so I resolved to use no washes or drybrushing on the models. I even decided to do engine glow which I typically avoid although I couldn't bring myself to highlight the models up to pure white. Hope you enjoy them. Now I can move back to some commission mechs and some of my own for a while. I'll be posting some better shots of one of the BC and one of the regular SC later.

    These are the regular SC.

Wow, those look great! Did you customize the vertical panels? It's been ages since I played BFG, but I don't recall strike cruisers looking quite like that - or quite that good, for that matter! Nicely done.

Thanks, and yes they are customized. The prow is a completely different and the panels at the rear are completely different from stock. Wasn't fond of the original

I've said this before, but it's just a pleasure to go through this log every time. It's been a while now so I could go through a couple of new pages.
The blue glowing thruster effect on the latest ships is awesome!

Thanks, these guys really put a dent in my output for the year and I've got another epic reaver that promises to take care of what's left. It's unfortunate since I will likely need to push my last AOBR dread conversion off to the new year.

I have to agree with Solun Decius, the glow effect is terrific, I never have seen this done on BFG ships.

Thanks! I can't say it's original to me, it's shown up fairly regularly in Gothicomp. I only added it to these because of how dark the back of the ship was due to the fins. I usually avoid the stuff since it always feels too over the top.

Update for the weekend. It took a bit of work, but I've gotten the next six mechs ready to go. Four of these are for myself and will be painted olive drab as a Eridani Light Horse lance and the other two are commission pieces of a crab and king crab.

On the rifleman, this was a pretty intensive repose... which looks great from every angle except full on left where the legs appear too close together. It doesn't look like there is anything I can do about it since it appears the thigh area on the Rifleman is too short to correctly separate the legs and I'm already at the max rotataion for the joint before it hits the hip.

another group of mechs done for a client. He wanted two crabs painted up in the same LG theme but without house markings. Pics ended up a bit fuzzy and oddly dark, but I think the shading turned out fairly well.

It's been a bit, but these guys were actually done a few weeks ago. I've just been waiting for the decals to arrive so I could finish them out. Anyway, this is my Eridani Light Horse lance. I think the pics turned out a bit too yellow. The green is a bit more grayish in person. I'm down to one Inner Sphere lance and two clan stars on my collection left to paint.

well, it's been awhile. All manner of things conspired to make sure I've had no rest and not much time for painting. I've got to say these almost had me quit painting for a good long while too. Somehow after I was 90% finished I realized I'd painted the scheme inverted and I was prepared to strip them down and start over. Thankfully the client suggested a different scheme which only put their completion off by a week. All in all they didn't turn out horrible for a higher end table top quality job. These are painted up as Wolf in Exile Beta.

There were minor conversions on these for pose and giving the hellstar some beefier torso PPC's. I believe that the next couple of weeks will be spent prepping a large number of models for painting since we are hitting the cold season soon and I don't want to mess with priming outside.

Good to have an update here again. It's a thread that stands out from the rest, keeps the variety up.

Thanks, but I have to say I think I'm meched out. Gonna switch back to epic robots and other bitz for a while I think.

Re: Vaaish's All things Epic (and the ocassional 40k/BFG)

This week has mostly be a prep week, I'm in the process of getting most of the stuff I need to paint this winter converted, posed, and primed so that I can just worry about varnish when the cold weather hits. I've probably got one more week of builds to go before I'm done spaced out by a couple of class projects. In any event, I'm also prepping the next version of the AdMech PDF to go out and I've been holding off for a couple of playtests and to get as many of the unit photos in place. I've still got a bit to go on those but I've got a good number done up. Part of those were the Colossus and Crusader robots I got painted up over the weekend:

just a note on exactly how crazy my life has been since thanksgiving. These 8 were finished that weekend and I haven't had time to even take pics to post much less pick up a brush to do anything.

This finishes up my colossus robots for epic. These guys are based on US pennies.

I'd say yep, but I can't tell if they're the plastic or metal versions. Metal? Don't know if they did the Crusader in plastic:

Those are indeed original models. The colossus are the plastic ones which are considerably smaller than the old metal ones. The crusader is one of the old metals. I needed to pick up the original epic models to put the proper shots in for the AdMech army list.

Time to dredge up this thread. Now that the holidays are over I'm back with a little bit of painting. This is the start to the third and final epic reaver titan and it's planned to be a rather special piece. As such the base got far more attention than is typical. Next up are the legs.
