Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS (Update model for ToFP)

    Hi Guys.
Ive collected lots of models but never really got round to completely finishing a project. I switch from unit to unit and army, so nothing really gets finished.
This blog will hopefully help change that.
The Armies eventuall included here will be
    Dark Elves
    Wood Elves, High Elves
    Dwarfs
    Empire
    Ogres
    Chaos
    Demons
    Vampire Counts
    Lizardmen
    Skaven
    Bretonnians.

Like I said I have alot of unpainted models. Sorry about the pictures. I think i need to practise some more.
    Here some finished models.
Any C&C welcome as I hope to also improve my painting.

    Also some WIP Bretonnians

Those Slaneshi Warriors look really nice.

Is there an army you won't include?

Actually I dont really like the look of Beast of chaos, or Tomb kings to be honest.
    Thank you Mabus.
I will post up the full unit of Slaneshi warriors and the exalted champion at the weekend.

Re: Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS

Hello. Thought Id post a dwarf lost I finished apart from the basing and some WIP models.

This will be lord of Khorne painted in the red/gold/brass that you usually associate with Khorne. Not very imaginative. Did consider going for the black /gold look, but thought red was more appropriate.

Another chaos Lord. This will be painted in a similar scheme to my chaos warriors posted earlier in the blog. Do you think this will work, if I paint the horse barding purple as well?

Re: Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS

Havent posted for a while. Got very side tracked with IG. Most of what Ive done is assembly and base coat items. Also first time posting pics with my new camera!

    Old Teclis and swordmasters

    WE Lord and guard

Some very WIP Bretonnians and Orc Special character

High Elf dragon. Considering not putting any rider on it, so that I can use it for both HE and WE, as I like the WE dragon, but not keen on metal models of that size.

My giant mainly for my orcs, but can be used with my chaos army

Some more pics of teclis. One of my favourite models, and one of the first character models I ever got. Hopefully these will look better. Have had a break from painting for a while though trying to catch up.

Youre really good with gold. I'd recomend getting your hands on some washes for some quick shading effects on some of your minis. I slather my WoC with badab black and it really works nicely.

Re: Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS

As its that time of year for new years resolutions, I am going to make a much greater effort to get my models painted. The whole point of this thread was to achieve this, but other things got in the way last year!
Presently Im designing 2250 point army lists for each of my WH armies, which I will try to follow on the painting side. Im also putting together my skaven army.

Re: Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS

Ive posted up the army lists so if anyone feels like commenting please do as I need the help.
Ive also been busy putting together my skaven horde, which has only increased what I need to paint Oh well!Though I will say the new clanrats are a big improvement on the previous ones!
On the skaven front I just need to consider what colour scheme to follow preferably quick easy and actually looks good, so any ideas would be most appreciated.

That would certainly be the easier option. But I get bored and end up switching between armies or games systems.

i would suggest doing the army you like best...or pick a few that you really like...and discard the others at least for now....that way you will get to finish something...and then finish a 1k list or so

Re: Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS

Hi - your figures look good. I think that maybe you should have TWO projects on the go at once - then you can switch between the 2 when you get bored. You could finish your 40K Iron Warriors and pick a Fantasy army too. I would say, though, that I would not recommend Chaos Warriors - they are too similar to Chaos Marines, nor would I recommend High Elves (as white can be a terrible nightmare to get right).

IMO then, you have 3 choices:
    1. Orcs & Goblins - lots of figures, bright colours, fun to paint. A lot of figures though - some variety but BIG infantry units (40+ for Gobbos).

    2. Skaven - brown & green colours (the easiest acrylic colours to use) - lots of figures!
You could easily do a great pain job OR more likely you could easily get bored.

    3. Dark Elves - cool, black/purple/red colour scheme (very different from Chaos), and a huge variety of units (probably the most of any Fantasy army) including armoured infantry, Witch Elves, Lizards, Dragons, Chariots, Cavalry, and war machines. You could finish an army of these.

4.Wood Elves - lots of variety with Dryads, Cavalry, Treemen, Dragons, Eagles, etc (though less than DE), very nice new models, and brown/green colours (thus easier to paint). Elite army so not too many figures to paint - you could get a force done!

Logical conclusion - do Dark Elves OR Wood Elves for WFB & Iron Warriors for 40K. Maybe sell the other armies or put them to one side for a bit. Take up Breazer's idea and maybe work out your points values so you are building each in 1000pt blocks. Maybe aim for an eventual 2000pts of each. Just my suggestion.

Whatever you decide, stick with it! I find that I only need the effort to do half the painting on a figure - once I get halfway, I find that I can't leave them unfinished.

Re: Hammer49 WH BLOG OF ALL THINGS

    Thanks Purplebeard.
I am certainly going to continue to plug away on the IW on my other thread, and have recently signed up to the tale fantasy painting for the next year. Hopefully this will give me another push to get them done in a reasonable amount of time. I have said Im going to be doing dwarfs and Chaos warriors 2000pts each. These are probably my two favorite armies after elves.
Im currently in the process of designing a list for each army, so will be posting wip shots in the not to distant future once everything is underway. Though have been finding it difficult designing 2000pt lists for 8th edition in that I cant get the balance right between characters & troops.

As mentioned in previous post, here my test model for my dwarfs for tale of fantasy painting. Im reasonably happy with it, and it makes a change from doing iron warriors
