I have made up this log on another forum at first, but i thought i would post it here as well. As time go i will make more additions though there might take some time before some new will arrive for now. But enjoy these pictures for the time =)
Some comments on the pictures:
I felt i wanted to do womething different. A long time ago i started painting some red type guard but never got farther then one squad. Then it took about 3-4 years before i came back to them and i though "Bugger this, i want to try something new". Okay, i didn't think exactly that, but i thought that trying painting mostly with washes would be interesting.
So, i tried to spray the minis with a codex grey-ish colored primer and painted baal red on armor and helmet, ogryn flesh on the clothing and badab black on the weapons and boots. All these washes are painted in two thicker layers. The skin is elf flesh with gryphonne sepia over and the metal is boltgun with a thin layer badab black.
The catachan rough riders is an idea i must have had for 10 years ever since i saw the conversion in the catachan codex. And i though that now that i collected some skill (enough to perform the idea at least) i would do it, mostly because i always wanted a unit like this and partly to serve as an tribute to my first IG army, the catachans. They are dead now, killed over the years in experiments in converting.
They are painted more simply, snotling green base, dark angel stripes with two layers of thraka green over it all. Rest is same as above.
I choosed this method since i wanted to be able to paint up large amounts of guards in little time since i knew i would want atleast a bit over 100 in my standard army. The sand is a red sand that wan't red enough according to me, so it received a dose of baal red to make the red deeper and the wash is perfect for this since it leaves the stony veins and such still there, just a bit more red.
