    Chunks 40k Log

As I have no branched off into 'other' models (thats right, not GW!) I decided to keep my old log open for my more historical orientated painted. This log will now be pure 40k!

On with the show. Heres a WIP for a new marine army. I'd like to say he is a White Scar, but I'm thinking the white is not pure enough. Maybe a sucessor chapter.

heres hoping you enjoy it as much as my old log

Thanks guys, and White Scars they shall be...

I'm painting these boys with a completely different pallet, I've not used straight Vallejo model colour with no other range to mix in. It presents wonderful new challenges and problems to overcome Hence the Aquila turning out nicely.

Brilliant stuff mate, I've looked in at you other log from time to time and am really impressed with your painting style. the WS are gritty and realistic, great stuff.

What are the problems using the paints straight from the pot?

Lovely White Scar Chunk! Absolutely stunningly realistic paint scheme. Very natural.

    Re: Chunks 40k Log

No problems with the paint itself, they are alot more liquid then GW which is a good start point. I just ordered the big set and I'm only being sent about a dozen at a time. And me being an impatient sort couldnt wait to get stuck in with just the greys and browns... so the problem is improvising some of the more basic colours. But theres alot to learn from not having a wide selection.

So heres the next marine, the pose isnt as natural as I'd like. the painting is a little smoother I think, and more is done to make the transfers realistic. Hopefully I've caught an element of interaction with the envirement by making it look like hes crushed the grass in his path.

I like it a lot, loved weathered marines, especially pale coloured ones.

Plus don't see many whitescares around.

It is good to try something different once in a while, it really challenges what you're capable of.

Quite happy I'm getting one of these done a day, shouldnt take much longer

Nice painting, love the weathered look. Your bases are nice to, do you have any special theme for your bases?

The whole theme for the squad is that they have ventured into a run-down abandoned settlement, and are sifting through to find what may be wrong...

A bit like the start of Aliens when the marines land and find everything deserted with signs of a fight everywhere. Hopefully it will get a bit more pronounced as I make more of the squad

I had the rest of my paint arrive since my last update, so this guy has a bit more colour in him. I think he's my favourite miniature so far

The poses, the subtle detail on the bases (such as the crushed grass) all tie in and make each mini look more exceptional than just the wonderful paint job you gave it. Great job chunk!

I dont really like playing with marines, so I may just finish these and see what I can get for them on Ebay. Was disapointed that it only got a 6 on coolminiornot, its far better than other stuff I put on their site. Ah well. I think my next proper army will be Cadians, as soon as they get here anyway.

I'm happy with the more subtle effects I've created, especially the way marines dont have to be performing elaborate acts of death dealing to look good

    More shortly

Don't worry about CMON, usually just a bunch of haters giving you low marks. It is easier to criticise than to actually produce what you have done.

Keep your chin up and get the rest of the squad finished.

I got the impression that cmon is just a big fan club, shame that you cant get the kind of feedback thats useful.

Tried something I've not done before, liquid effect. I'm showing off a few angles here, I was trying to suggest that we'd scooped a little of the goo of the floor and its dripping through his fingers.

Good luck to you Flying Toaster

    Looks like he's tracking an ork . . . .

Great stuff mate, the weathering is spot on, not so much that you lose the original scheme but enough to suggest they aren't REMF's.
