The Battle Rages on! Hauks' Plog

Okay, I have to motivate myself to get all my mini's painted because I, and people who have bought me GW gifts over the years have spent too much money to just have it all sitting there.

I'm starting this painting log so I can get everything done. I hope to have at least one update a week(possibly two or three), and with a regular schedule in work at the moment, it means I can schedule time to paint too.

Time management and other random college commitments led me to drop out of the Tale of 40K painters thread(which I was really disappointed at), so that won't be happening this time. I've got 6 months to get as much as I can done.

So what have I got to paint?

Well, everything! I've got 40K, Fantasy, Lord of the Rings, and the original Necromunda box set gangs to paint.

I'll post a specific detailing of everything that needs assembling and painting when I get home.

For the moment however, here is some Ultramarine stuff I painted for the Tale of 40k painters when I was in it. Hopefully this will give you a flavour of my painting style.

    Enjoy!

    Tactical Squad flamer.

Tactical Squad Seargent(and others in the background).

    Landspeeder

    Dreadnought

    ..and from another angle..

Hopefully that would keep you appeased until I've more stuff painted.

That should be this weekend. So probably an update then.

It will probably be the Terminator that was in the WD a few months back.

And I'm working on assembling a Whirlwind at the moment.

gonzosbignose: Thanks About the Land Speeder crew, I tried a different technique to paint them that day and didn't like it at all. The layering looked washed out and there was no contrast. I quickly reverted back to the tried and tested method you see in the other mini's.

    Thanks for the reply.

*Hauk drags his thread up from the murkey depths of Page 3*

This is a picture update folks. I've finished the Apothecary and the Ultramarines' Command Squad is mostly complete minus a few details.

I won't bore you with details, but I did enjoy painting it and tried to make the photographs look a bit better. The lighting was a little low, so I'll work on that. ^_^

Anyway, on to the important bit.

    The entire squad together.

Apothecary close up(sorry for the low light).

    Seargent up close(nice and blurry).

    Plasma gunner dude man.

Standard Bearer up close(I need to do some freehand).

And my favourite photo of the Apothecary.

Any C&C is much appreciated and thanks for reading!

Next up is a Whirlwind and the WD Terminator they gave out a while back.

    Thanks piratehooker.

Minor non-picture update. Have most of the Whirlwind assembled, and I have the Terminator undercoated ready for painting. I won't be here over the weekend so it'll be Tuesday evening when I can post a progress pic of the Terminator.

    Bye for now.

*Hauk runs in the door waving a sheet of paper*

I'm still working on the Terminator, sorry about not having it finished.

But what I have done is make an inventory of ALL the minis in my collection.

It was quite an adventure going through everything and finding all those minis I painted as a kid. But here is a list of pretty much everything I have. No doubt there will be mini's popping up everywhere, but they'll get added as we go along.

    -== Inventory of Mini's ==-

    Warhammer 40,000

Master of the Ravenwing - Still in box
Ork Nob in Eavy Armor - Still in box
20 Dark Eldar Warriors - Still on sprue
Sisters of Battle Immolator(Old version) - Assembled
Ork Warbike - WIP - Need to finish painting rider + highlights
Eldar Jetbike - Undercoated - Will strip and change to Chaos Black undercoat

    Space Marine Army.

SM Scout Box(5 mini's in it) - Still in box
SM Librarian Terminator(lovely mini) - Still in blister
Marneus Calgar(Old version)- Assembled - Not undercoated
    Tigurius(Old Version) - Assembled - Not undercoated
SM Drop Pod - Still in box
    SM Whirlwind - Semi-assembled
Space Marine Scout with Heavy Bolter - Still in box
SM Terminator Squad(Old mini's) - Undercoated Skull white - Will be stripped.
SM Bikes - Various stages of painting from a few years ago - Will strip and re-paint.
SM Scouts x 8 - Various stages of WIP.
WD Terminator - Mini I'm currently working on.

    Warhammer Fantasy

Warriors of Chaos Battalion Still in box
Chaos Lord on Juggernaut Still in box
High Elf Spearmen Box set Still in box
High Elf Swordmaster x 1 Undercoated
Skaven - Clan Skryre(sp?) Poison Wind Globadier Still in Blister
    Lizardmen Saurus x 8 Assembled - Unpainted

    Lord of the Rings

Men of Gondor x 4 Assembled - Might be a few more lying around
Moria Goblins x 11 Assembled - Might be a few more lying around
    Uruk Hai x 1 Assembled
    Aragorn x 1 Assembled
    Frodo x 1Assembled

There might be more Lord of the Rings mini's lying around. I'm not sure.

    Necromunda

Orlock Gang from the Original Box Set.
Goliath Gang from Original Box Set.
The Games Society I am a member of has an original Orlock Leader in a blister in storage, and I've got permission to nab it off them, so I'll add him here as well.

    -== End of Inventory ==-

No doubt more will be added to the list as I find it, but that's a good idea of what I have and what stage I am at with them.

Painting my terminator tonight, so might post a WIP just to keep this ticking over.

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the encouragement.

Loving the Ultramarines, the white looks really good on the Apothacaries helm. Nice list of stuff to do too!

@Death Korp: Thanks very much. ^_^

Picture update time. I finished painting the WD terminator but I missed a few areas so might go back over it tonight or during the week and fix it.

I'm not happy how the helmet turned out. I got the consistency wrong and everything went a bit off the rails. I think I got painting white wrong this time. Oh well, live and learn.

Anyway, on to the important bit.

Side shot: My first go at a Ultramarine freehand.

Other side shot: Tried some more freehand.

Next up is to touch up this guy, and get to work undercoating my Whirlwind.

    Enjoy, and thanks for reading.

Re: The Battle Rages on! Hauks' Plog

Non picture update, but an update nonetheless.

So I have a lot of mini's that need stripping, and I'd heard good things about Dettol(a brand of hygienic disinfectant to those on the other side of the pond). It so happens we had some Dettol at home, so I filled a cup with it, and placed two old 2nd Ed Space Marines(plastic) in it.

I left them to sit for 24 hours, and when I came back, I grabbed an old toothbrush and gave them a good scrub. The paint just flaked away, and I'm left with a clean mini(stinking of Dettol), ready for a brand new undercoat. Obviously it wasn't perfectly clean, like a little smudge here or there, but all the detail of the mini is there in all its unpainted glory.

So I'm going to repeat the process for my Terminator Squad, which I gave a white undercoat many years ago and get them up to scratch with the rest of the minis you see here.

On the Whirlwind end of things, I've begun undercoating parts for it. I plan on painting the interior of the tanks because it's there, and it would nag at me that it wasn't painted.

I'll post some pictures of the stripped mini later on so you can get an idea of how well Dettol works.
