Mel scratch builds a gaming room....no really.

Hey gang, back again with another fun filled thread of crappy painting and poor greenstuffmenship, but this time with a twist. Seeing as we've just moved from a slumish 2 bedroom aparmtent suit to a very spacious 3 bedroom house with a large backyard, the wife has given me the smaller of the 2 spare rooms for my addidtions.
Now there are some of you who are asking,"Mel, how does one scratch build a gaming room?"
Well aren't you a smug little so and so, who do you think you are questioning me?
Anyways simple when room lacks when curtons and anything that remotly looks like a desk. Since it is a new house the house comes with out curtin rods. An over sight on our half.

So the to do list is as followed in no real order:

-Ivory Needs touch ups; will re-do later when every else is done

- Emerald Legs and body glued, waiting on trade; Warlock painted

- Done for now. needs basing.

WHy not go for blinds rather than curtains? And where are the pillows and rug going to go? You need a sofa of some sort. And a fridge - for beer.

To be honest I was going to hang a flag over the window. When the table it laid out on the floor there is just enough room for some chairs on either end of the long lanth of it...but no real room to sit in siad chairs. I'll have to look in to a beer fridge. maybe the wife will get me one as a wedding presant lol. Need ti rearrange the room so the table lays out better. Will be doing this when i go to rebuild my painting table.

Actually, one thing that might work, although it would require some work... is what my Dad did many years ago with his model railway.

Attach it to the wall. Seriously. He did it with the long end to the wall, but if you attach the short end, with some ingenious folding hinge type things...Might just work...

That's a good idea actually Crube, when I was an undergrad I had an 8-foot table in my 10-foot room with one end fixed to the wall. I actually screwed in wooden supports from the floor to the height of the table; that way one end was always really solid. Keeps everything safe and maximises use of the available space.

Sounds like this'll be a good project anyhow, I look forward too seeing how it goes!

Kinda like a murphy bed. Not sure how the landlord would feel about me drilling in holes in her walls. Quess only one way to find out. Right now the table is sitting in the corner in 4x2 lanths on the segmented futon frame. Trying to get photobucket to load faster but isnt working.

..but you don't have to do to that now that you have moved out of the aopartment: only people who live in apartments do that. The hobby room looks excellent- curtains are over-rated: look at all the nice natural light you are getting in there.

The Dire Avenger models are one of my most favourite plastic kits- the models look aces. The female Farseer looks like a High Elf conversion, no?

A brilliant idea that I intend to use when I renovate my shop*

You slap a bit of 3 by 2 down that long wall and get some biggish hinges and hinge a big bit of board (your games table) that can lift up and go flat agaist that wall (where the pinboard is). Underneath this is where you have your pernenant painting and modelling table built with some supports that your gaming board drops down on to. (sitting about 8 inches above your desk) this way you can leave whatever you are painting/modelling where it is and don't have to tidy everything up every time you want to game ... you just bring the board down.

Well thats what I did in my first hobby romm that was very similar to yours.
but then I am quite handy with a bit of wood and a power tool.

Ive seen Basment suites with flags in the windows. I'll most likely keep to the flag idea till I get some blinds.
The Female farseer is the old High Elf Everqueen with the top of her staff replaced with the spear end from the 3rd ed Farseer.

Thnx for the idea Harry but it sounds like way too much work and im lazy. lol No but really I'ld like to do as little damage to the house as possible. Im in between afew ideas for the table. The main one being that Im going to place folding legs under the futon frames. Kinda like making them over sized TV trays.
The painting desk is only temp as when we get a new comp desk Im getting the old one. The middle section swings out to the right, giving me more then enough room and room for the laptop.

Are you going to be getting glass display cases for the armies?

Instead of curtains you should do blinds and a giant flag. You could get the Aquila or whatever printed on a custom flag for a fairly reasonable price. Here, and here have pretty decent reputations.

Awww man! Totally thought I was about to get icecream. Next thing you'll be posting pics of Mountain Dew to taunt me again.

I see you managed to get hold one one of the rare Necromunda Farseers. It's handy for adding some variation to yiu units. Apparently a fun model to paint by all accounts. Sure you'll have fun.

Desk ain't bad size wise. Should give you plaenty of workspace as long as yu keep it organised.

Ya its a wicked model. It was missing it's left had so i gave it an guardian "holding" hand, need to fix the pin it shows. Am trying to give it a GS "pychic" power thing. Also thinking of give it a spear head swap. As right now its more of a staff then spear.

The desk is a big stubby, and the only 2 chairs that would fit under it are uncomfurible to sit in. The room is a odd shape too, i need to figure out how to have the desk and the table out at the same time.....with out drill holes in the walls to make a colapsable desk ala murphy bed style...even thou that would be kick ass.

Awaiting Hick's trade to come in the mail, got another 17 guardians coming and selling my SM dread and some scouts am thinking about getting some warp spiders or dark reapers and another warwalker

Updates!
We're buying a computer desk from a co-worker of my wife. Not sure if i want the "new" one of the current one the PC is collecting dust on.
Hicks trade came in the mail. Yeah! 40 Guardians to paint. 11 of which are being Converted in to Storm Squad.
Also sold some of my old 3rd ed Scouts and some H.Wepons and got myself a box of Spiders and a second War Walker. Here are some pics of the walkers.
