    Glade riders to Dark riders

    Hey,

Well this was my first time using green stuff, let alone converting any model what so ever. Due to the expensive prices of the Dark rider models, and me not wanting to use up more than 8 Dark elf Warriors, I ended up using a lot of green stuff. I figured that just sculpting a riding cloak shouldn't be so hard

Here Im using my basic Glade rider models with Dark elf Warrior arms. I gave the original Glade rider heads a haircut, cut off the arrow case on their leaf-like capes, and just sculpted the riding cloaks over it. I'm not quite done with all the models, but I like the way they look (although in photo they look less good than I was hoping :S ). I tried to give them the look of the Dark rider picture in the army book with the pointed hood. Any suggestions and/or comments would be appreciated

Also, how do you give green stuff a smoother finish? I was satisfied with it in person, but the pictures make it look really bumpy and amateur-esque. This is my first time though

They look alright for a first time sculpting. You can smooth greenstuff while it is still soft by putting water on it and then smoothing it with a flat object (blade of a Stanley knife, back of a teaspoon). When the greenstuff has set, you can smooth it with a hobby file or with fine sandpaper.

For first time GSing they are very good, although I think that the point hoods make them look too much like goblins... sorry!

I think the hoods are a bit too big and details are rough but i see what you want to do so i would see you practice more and look at how others have done too. Its all good ways to learn.

If you want GS to run smoother use water while sculpting so the tools dont stick to the GS.

Also if you want to make hoods try make a flat piece of GS on a table where it cant stick.. like glass or marble or such.. (well, dont stick as much as on other surfaces) and then practice cutting it to a shape wich you simply can fold over the head. A triangular shape might work.

Good start and cheers to a great time learning more about sculpting.
