Re: Ragsta's Battlefleets and Bravo Company

schlissi- Thank you very much for the compliments, that means something coming from someone of your skill! I hope my freehand gets to your level quickly, I need to start that Marine Chapter I've been pondering! And she's not a THING, you philistine

jstalker- Thanks, mate, this plog was all about the BFG love so I'm glad you like those bits! The Ork ships were really quite simple to put together, hopefully they will inspire more Warseer fans to have a go themselves.

OutOfContext- Gargghhh he's found me! Heh heh, does tend to take you a while to notice your fellows' plogs eh fella? Glad you like the ships, don't tell the boys about whether it's Mork or Gork, there'll be a riot in the shipyardz!!

SO seems people like the Ork ships, which is awesome and makes me feel happy about my scratchbuilds. If you guys like those then hopefully you will like my latest Terrorship and escorts...

Imperial Light Cruiser 'Rapier'. Counts as an Endeavour, you gotta love those lances! AND here are the heavy weapons for my Flexeberg Bravo Company! What do you think?

I think I could use them as anti-tank lascannons OR missile launchers (artillery firing high explosive frags or AP krak). They need some extra gear strapped to the gunshields- you can see some water cans on one of 'em already. ALSO I will be hanging some tarpaulins over the tops to represent covers/ camo netting. It will also hide the lack of coolness at the backs

Thanks for the feedback, I promise those Imperial escorts, more Ork scratchbuilds AND a Space Marine in my proposed Chapter colours next time!

That's not true at all! I always find my fellow's logs swiftly.
They just aren't happy to see I've commented

I like the car of the front of this new ship. Almost as though he's drove into it and used it as a mascot.
I'd use the guns as count-as lascannons personally. Or maybe autocannons.

Re: Ragsta's Battlefleets and Bravo Company

Okay, it's raining outside, I am awaiting my friend visiting from gloomy Aberdeen (we are going for curry later ) and I simply thought I would let you guys know a bit more about me. I saw this wee question thing elsewhere on Warseer but can't remeber where. Anyway:

Getting to know a Warhammer fan

    1. How long have you been a Warhammer fan?- Blimey, I remember seeing my first White Dwarf in primary school so... 15 years!

    2. What is your earliest memory of Warhammer?- Like I said, some pals were clustered around a brightly coloured magazine with long legged, weapon wielding robots. They turned out to be Eldar dreadnoughts.

    3. Who is your fav Warhammer character of all and why?- It would have to be Commissar Yarrick. Back when the first fluff about him and Hades Hive came out it was really something. Amd he's only human, no power armour for him! Badass

    4. What is your most favourite and prized Warhammer possession and why?- I have a Limited Edition Empire coin. It's got Karl Franz's head on it and is in white metal- I randomly won it at my LGS after answering some question about the Undead correctly (!). Let me know if you guys wanna see a picture

    5. Where in the world do you come from?- Born in Portsmouth, bred in Edinburgh and with an Iranian dad. Heh heh great conversation starter!

    6. Outside of Warhammer what else do you do with your life?- Well now, I like going to the gym and jogging to fend off my love for food in all its forms (and beer, don't forget the beer), I like reading history, sci fi and all manner of comics and graphic novels and generally bumbling around hills and dales.

    7. What is the origin of your screen name?- It was the name I used when playing Counter Strike many years ago. Didn't see why I should change it.

    8. Apart from your own log, whos logs do you enjoy viewing?- Dang, good question! Bungaroo's is top quality, Sheep is a gentleman and quality painter, Shadowfall is mad as a bag of cats in jam and Pekel is always coming up with original ideas. McBain's recent work has been excellent and informative, EasyE has taught me to scratchbuild and convert more extensively and Discord just comes out with a whole bag of nice stuff! Check out Napalm for some oldschool goodness. There, I'm done now

    9. If you could be any Warhammer character, what would it be?- Tough call! While I like Yarrick he seems to have a tough time of it. Plus he's like 70 years old or something, going to the toilet wouldn't be fun with that darn power claw of his. Maybe an Inquisitor, yeah that'd be cool. Death to Tofu!

And finally, two Imperial escort ships from the GZG range of miniatures. I strongly recommend BFG fans look this site up, it's great for lots of various ship styles that can fit into 40K!

Loving the BFG stuff mate, I really need to trawl all my spare parts to make some junker ships. Should also get on with resurecting my Log too. When I get a spare minute I'll read your background stuff as well.

Re: Ragsta's Battlefleets and Bravo Company

Thank you, Captain, I look forward to your reading of the fluff! Nothing special as yet but I hope to develope it soon. And get your log sorted! *Cracks whip*

So seeing as the BFG stuff is going down so well I have something here you guys might like. Basically I was cruising the Specialist Games part of the GW site and looked at the price for Ork Kroozers... £12?!!

So here's an alternative for you- 2 Terrorships and a Ravager Attack Ship made from cereal packets and polystyrene! I hope you guys can make out the various overlapping plates I have worked into these ships. My inspiration actually comes from Bloodquest, when Garshul the Destroyer's fleet is in orbit and under attack from..... A lone SM Scoutship

Lots of cocktail stick torpedoes to be added, plus detailing using smaller bits of cards and plastic gubbins from my bitz boxes to break up the hull surfaces. Each Ork ship in this project will have features such as eyes and teef

Feedback on the ships would be great, I realise its contraversial building ships from card and styrene but I would really appreciate some C & C on these!

+++Incoming transmission from the Parallus Expanse-priority Bravo Tertius+++

*We interrupt your viewing of 'Xenos Purgations Live' for this special bulletin. Termination of viewing will result in immediate conscription.*

Citizens rejoice! Even now glorious ships of war are en route! Give praise to the Immortal God Emperor for His benevolence in granting you the sight of such wondrous icons of His authority!

Battlegroup Resurgent drops out of warp prior to deployment.

There are several different paint schemes present in the fleet- primarily cos I wanted to branch out in order to avoid boredom. I think it works out nicely and reflects different ships from different systems.

    Noble System Defence Ships.

Some scratchbuilt defence ships and two GZG frigates as previously seen.

Striketeam Ephialtes prepares to infiltrate enemy supply routes once again.

Note the OOC Firestorm frigates! One of my proudest wins on eBay!

Shark Squadron takes up position screening Battlegroup Resurgent.

I have used GZG ships once again to count as Cobra Destroyers- slightly smaller than the GW equivalent but I feel this to be more accurate. Cobras strike me as being simple torpedo boats with a coupla hundred crewmen at most. Two GZG frigates provide anti ordinance support and help to break up the monotony. Note all the extra wires I added to represent sensor probes- they were a total pain haha!

So there you have it, my entire Imperial fleet in glorious technicolour! I am very happy with how nicely they turned out in the pictures and even happier knowing I am almost finished. I need to finished off the ordinance I have for the carriers and also add flight stands to some of the light cruisers and system ships but that's pretty much it for the humans!

What do you guys think? Comments and criticism wanted!

Thanks, boss! Yeah, I would love a few more OOP ships in the fleet but they are rarely cheap and my unemployment kinda screws that plan

I like using them to reflect old ships that have been hurriedly pressed back into service- there are two cruisers that have a brown colour scheme that reflect this look too (back row of the fleet shot).

The Ork ships are very easy I promise ya!! Carve a chunk of polystyrene into the rough shape you're after, then add pieces of cereal packet cut to taste. I try very hard to have all the plates overlapping to exaggerate the armoured hull idea and bring out the drybrushing that will come. Add plastic gubbins to taste

    Thanks man

Yeah, the fleet still needs me to add some ordinance as I've said. I need to get another 4 stands of fighters AND bombers as there are two carriers in the battlegroup and it would be nice to have a full spread.

Here's some counts as Starhawks for ya tho:

About the battleship... My thinking for this fleet is it has been hurriedly patched together with serving vessels, reactivated cruisers from reserves and old and new escort ships that have been taken out of mothballs. Battleships are rare and as such I don't think it would fit with my fluff.

I WOULD like a Grand Cruiser tho, they keep popping up on eBay and I keep blowing it on the bids I would love to paint a loyalist Repulsive class as flagship.

Here are the two cruisers who triggered my fluff ideas for the fleet. The dark brown scheme wasn't quite what I had planned initially but then I sat there and thought 'They look really old. Aha! They must be reservist ships!' so there ya go.

Lunar class cruisers Adjudicator and Glorious reactivated and manned as per orders. Current power output 85%. Fleet Commissar Banneth reeducating ship ratings with admirable vigour. Moving out. We are the Emperor's sword! They cannot stand before us!

I gave Adjudicator a Marine Strike Cruiser bridge and bombardment cannon and both cruisers have extra aquilas from 40K SM sprues. The extra large bridge reflects all the extra fire control required for mounting a Nova Cannon on such a vessel. I think all the painted windows and lights on these two vessels really saved them from an otherwise dodgy paintscheme.

The bridge on the adjudicator looks just a ittle too ***** IMHO. Nice try though.

EDIT:LMAO! I had no idea that the abreviation for that was censored... I implied it was fat & ugly... in case you're wondering.

Hahaha I thought you were being a bit aggressive there! Yeah, I tend to agree but she's just gonna have to stay ugly I guess.

    abhorsen950- Thanks very much, mate

EasyE- Hey buddy, thanks for the comments! The system ships were actually made out of:

-pen tube for the main body

-flight stand sprue for the bridge (the transparent bit that holds two stands at the bottom

-a triangle of random plastic glued along the bottom of the tube for part of the hull

-a length of sprue for the bow, then a slightly thinner part of sprue laid over that extending the bow further

-add tank bits and plasticard hull plating to taste They were stupidly simple to do and turned out quite nicely considering the total lack of effort on my part. I hope to inspire, do let me know if my dodgy guide helped at all.

SO Sergeant Pinko and 3rd squad are finally finished! And I have to say painting pink pants on the NCO was remarkably therapeutic hahaha! One thing of note here- I have never felt so uninspired when painting this squad Halfway through I was thinking these guys look **** but I persevered and they came good, you HAVE to love the GW inks! So this just shows that to persevere is key, chaps.

Sergeant Sergei Pinko's 3rd Squad are some of the more experienced members of Bravo Company. There are some concerning signs of combat fatigue effecting squad mental states to be seen here.

Thanks for the comments, everybody, I really appreciate them and any questions you have concerning my bits and bobs... Erm...

One moment the company was marching through broken trenchworks and flattened razorwire and the next their world exploded into laserfire and the hammering of heavy bolters.

Sergeant Green was hurling himself forward into the mud almost before the muzzle flashes registered in his consciousness. His respirator jarred painfully against his eyes and jaw as his chemsuited form smacked wetly into the mud. Muffled screams erupted around him as slower Guardsmen were hit, then the crack of autorifles joined in as Flexeberg infantrymen returned fire.

Trooper Henzel jogged forward, his heavy bolter smacking solidly against his armoured thighs even as he tried to brace it across his chest. He flopped forward behind some twisted wreckage and began laying down suppressive fire- straining to make out the enemy positions through the heavy lenses he wore.

“Enemy contact sector 7 G, estimate platoon strength with machine guns.” Green bellowed into the radio handset, waving other squad members forward with his free hand. A cold voice rang out in his ear in response and he tensed as he recognised it- Lieutenant Fall.

“Is there a problem, sergeant? I trust Bravo Company will be able to handle a few dirty rebels without assistance from another unit? Perhaps your troops require some motivation, please be aware that I am zeroing some artillery onto your position as of now. You have five minutes to clear that area.”

Damnation but Fall was a cold hearted fether! But now was not the time to dwell on that- arty was even better than a Commissar for getting his men moving.

“1st Squad, suppressive fire! Henzel, are you on fragging holiday over there?! Sergeant Vostok, get your squad on their right flank fast, we’ve got arty incoming!” He hugged his rifle into his shoulder and fired some short bursts at the distant muzzle flashes. Tracer rounds zipped past as other members of Bravo Company began to lay down more fire. Clumsy figures started scuttling forward from crater to crater, ducking behind blasted tree stumps and battlefield debris as they worked their way forwards. Several times Green saw a puff of vapour as enemy fire ruptured the survival suits of the Guardsmen. If the damage wasn’t mortal then maybe the soldier would be able to slap a suit patch over the damage before the atmosphere killed him. And sometimes not.

“Come on, you men! With me! For the Emperor!” A tall figure strode past where Green lay. He instinctively levered himself to his feet as he recognised the figure- even is his suit Lieutenant Fall was tall and lean,. It was not beyond the officer to fire some motivational blasts at soldiers he spotted skulking in cover. Better to get up and move fast, and damn the incoming- he didn’t fancy a laser blast from one of his own.

“For the Emperor! Forward!” Sheer madness- Green fired more rounds from the hip and stormed forwards.
