Thread: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

Great stuff Jihad. I really must get around to doing something myself, you keep giving me new ideas!

I like the zombie hunters, I think my only critique would be that the worn patches on the hoodie wearing chap's jeans look a little metallic at the moment, that could be a lighting effect though. Otherwise looking good! Does this mean we will also be seeing some zombies at some point?
The Hasslefree miniatures certainly do look nice, I am quite tempted by Harby and the trenchcoated Dionne as a Mulder-and-Skully-esque Inquisitorial tag team.

The Brazen Minotaur looks ace, the blacklining is well done, solid enough to be effective but not overly obvious and the washes have worked very well. I like the green lighting of the eyes too. Where did you get that head by the way, it's very interesting? The only bit I'm not quite sure about is the blue on the cloth/parchment on his shoulder, it looks a little clean at the moment. I don't think it looks so bright that an army of them would be blinding, but then I suppose without actually having several of them in a group it is perhaps a little difficult to tell if it would be too much.

If the gold/bronze on that marine is anything IRL as it is on the picture, it's godlike. Really, really nice effect you achieved there! And it doesn't look too bright either, as above if it's not brighter IRL of course.

    Keep it up mate!

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

    Aw thanks guys!

Dragon Lord - Hey buddy! Yeah, you should paint some stuff Baker's jeans have come off badly in the photo - I think the wash I used has given off a strange sheen but I'm looking at him on my desk (carefully, I might add - he still creeps me out) and he looks okay on the table.

Me and Gomez have started a zombie log actually, so if you wanna see some zombies they'll be showing up there soon! I've bought 60 from Mantic...

And fair call on the blue on the Minotaur - to be honest it was the only arm I could fine and I just slapped on the first paint that came to hand. His helmet is a Steam Knight from MaxMini. And I love the eyes.

BTB - Very kind words, my friend, thank you. I am now seriously dithering about throwing a force of these guys together. Maybe at some point - might try and hunt down some cheap AOBR/ Battle of Macragge plastics. If anyone sees any let me know!

Gomez - Thanks, man, ever the charmer

Since I bought some plastics sets to get to the juicy pre heresy bits, I've got a few mk7 marines spare available to trade

Dang, it's weird being so productive recently! This sucker took me longer than I'd planned but hopefully the extra effort has paid off. He's a SWAT team member from Hasslefree (LOTS of detail, it almost felt bad to camo him up. Almost.) but I want him to look like an army squaddie.

I am pretty happy with how my painting has improved with this guy - having done him I can safely say I will NEVER paint a Guard army in this scheme! Well, maybe if it was a Killteam. Or Stormtroopers. Come to think of it I still have a Pig Iron System Trooper to paint up. Arg.

    Ello

So it's been a while since I've updated this thread, much as I love it. It has recently reached 5 stars, so I know somebody must be enjoying what they see here!

I have several things on my desk right now that I want to get stuck into:

BFG Imperial Navy redux - I enjoyed the old fluff for Group Crassus buuuut its old. And restrictive. Plus I may have been bad and bought some more cruisers SO I will be going back to this fleet, creating a convoy of merchantmen using scratchbuilds and GZG models AND repainting my current ships so they have squadron themes. You can expect to see some new escorts and light cruisers too.

Brazen Minotaur relaunch - Yes, it happened. After that test piece went down so well on these pages I decided that I wanted to create a fully fledged force of Brazen Minotaur Space Marines. Once again with rewritten fluff. I have a whole bunch of parts that I'm slowly stripping of paint and filing off glue/ mould lines. A slow burn project.

Here is a picture of the civilian merchant ships I bought from GZG miniatures. Hardly any mould line and the sculpts are lovely. I especially like the smaller ships...

Thank you for watching, thank you for voting and just thanks for being nice Warseerites

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

    Hello

It's been a while since an update - work has been stupidly busy (and ultimately pointless - I do so love working a dead end job complete with commute alongside moronic school children).

On top of that, I have three weddings to attend this summer and I am best man for two of them so there has been WAY too much stuff going on for my humble brain to cope with.

However, am working on a few different things right now - I'm flitting from project to project as the mood takes me. Finding this more relaxing than usual, which is what I need.

Painted up some merchant ships for my Imperial fleet - from left to right we have a packet, a barque and a livestock barge. The packet needs highlights on its forward viewing domes, the barque needs highlighting along the panel edges and some windows and freehand. However, for now I'm leaving them as is - I want to get a basic level of paint done on as much stuff as possible this week so I can clear out some of my backlog.

If things go well I should be able to post up some zombies too....

Ahhh, the perils of real life.. Don't let that bothersome fact get in the way of continuing to do more awesomeness.

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

Burnthem - I love Firefly! The film is one of my favourites too, I've tried to base my BFG Orks on Reavers. And as requested, the painted 'Gloworm' class courier craft is included in this update.

Gomez - Good luck with Salute, I'm confident that you will rise above it! Its my birthday on the 23rd - get me a present! And thank you for the ooooo, that's very kind of you and your lady (congrats!)!

Dannage - Hello, old chap, and how have you been? Fixed that flooding yet? Thank you for using the word awesome in connection with my work!

My last batch of merchant ships is done! Spot the scratch build - I made it out of an abortive attempt at an Eradicator barrel. You guys like the Firefly? Its okay...

The entire convoy wholly comprised of ships from GZG, you'll see some old faithfuls from earlier in this log. I'm using the two large ships as super heavies and the other 6 as standard transports. They still need lots of windows painted in but that's it for now.

Zombies as mentioned by the good man (thing?) Gomez! But we don't just want those now do we...?

I have been working on Fran - lots of requests from the World War Z thread had to be acted upon. Therefore, I've add freehand to the scarf and skirt and redone the hair plus some black lining.

If anyone has any comments or gibberish please do say so - as ever a big thank you from me for your kindness and general camaraderie.

Thats a vast improvement on Fran - the little bit of extra work has paid off even though I can already see you screaming and shouting at it. Now do another!

Its my birthday on the 23rd - get me a present!
Cheeky git! Strange timing that though... a birthday right next to the biggest modelling show in the UK.. hmmm....

Get that System trooper finished and I'll might pick up some goodies.

Woah, your granny is looking awesome (what a weird thing to say...)! You're really upping your game all the time. Oh, and I can finally say that the bits are on their way, after like half a year...

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

I'd forgotten about those bits! Curse my aging brain... I'll be 29 y'know. I suppose my granny could have had worse words said of her.

I've painted up the System Trooper from Pig Iron. Lots of detail on this guy's armour, I'm sure the sculptor must have gone mad doing it. He reminds me an awful lot of HALO's Master Chief but I wanted to a gun metal colour rather than olive drab.

Added some red piping to make him more interesting. He has khaki overalls but you can't see those cos they appear on the back of his legs (kinda cool sculpting work, looks like the armour has been strapped on).

The base needs grass and I might add some ferns too just to jazz him up a little - currently I cannot find PVA glue in the city of Edinburgh for love or money!

Please feel free to slag the paint job off - personally I rather like the metallic effect it's created. I could quite happily paint up a squad of these and use them as Stromtroopers. Come to think of it, I still have 30 of those Warzone troopers lying around too...

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

Looks really good, the lighting effect isn't over done (your going to have to do a tutorial on that...). The red stripe works well although could do with it being a little brighter - only a touch or two lighter. I'd also stick some weathering pigment on the legs to highlight the base a little more but yep, superb job.

I'll pop a tube of PVA in your birthday box. Still rummaging around working out what to send you for this birthday of yours - I did consider getting you something at Salute today but I had to buy nice things for me instead

Re: BFG Imperials, Scratchbuilt Orks and 17th Flexeberg IG!

As Warseer is now alive again I too show proof of life.

Okay, so current motivation to paint and build is painfully low - I'm afraid the annoyance that is work is not helping. Also, having come back from my best mate's stag do (and a day of paintballing) I had the joy to discover I have a haematoma on my left leg. Needless to say it's very stiff and sore and yet another thing that sucks up my will to hobby.

    BUT

    Dauntless Light Cruiser Squadron

I managed to paint these little fellas up over the weekend - currently I'm still driving towards getting as many ships painted to tabletop standard as I can. That means I can still add windows, domes and some detailing to these ships but not for now.

The addition of 3 light cruisers in one go seriously boosts my Imperial fleet numbers - pretty happy about that!

Lovely clean and crisp work as ever - looking forward to seeing the detailing done I know you really don't want to but crack on and get it finished while your still in the mood - you'll feel better for it, trust me.

Great to see you back (again), you almost had me worried! The ships look great as usual, sometimes soon you have to take a group pic of all your BFG ships. Would love to see that!
