Thread: Fable's Ulthwe Army

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

I've been working on more bits for the base. I've decided that the scene is going to revolve around the rescue of the pilot of a crashed Vyper. Here is the pilot and his carriage:

It's been a while since I last checked what you were up to over here, but you've made quite some progress!
The crashed vyper scene looks very interesting so far.

Thanks HWG, I had the same thought.

Hopefully it will be pulled off when it's all done.

The mock-up of the base is complete:

Next to the Pilot is a field medic. This would be different than the Path of the Healer that we see in the novel Path of the Warrior. This would be more akin to a subset of Guardian who tends to the wounded in the field. Sort of a specially trained Guardian akin to the heavy weapon team or support weapon team or even pilot. I could see them having previously been on the path of the healer and the path of the warrior at one time or another.

I guess I've always been a sucker for layers of story.

Thanks for the enthusiasm EG (is it ok if I shorthand your SN like that?). Hopefully people will continue to be as happy with the model as I complete it, and that inc with the feet.ludes the base. A little more progress has been made. Most of the bone work has been started, though the nitty gritty is really starting this week on painting it and the base. In another two weeks or so the bronze work should be done and I'll be putting it all together.

I've also started to Dullcote the army as I don't mind taking away the sheen from the models at this point. It's been years and I'm sufficently sure the 'ardcoat protects very well.

Also, the base is all sprayed and I don't know if you can notice it from this shot but I added a Scorpion to the base near the Dark Reaper and the FArseer will be on that same side of the left foot.

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

Last night I completed one of the major sections of the Titan... the face. And yes I did include the hinge and got it to work.

The bone was produced with bone over black and then layer after layer of dry brushed bleached bone until I got it to the shade and depth I wanted. I was very happy with the pilot and cockpit, but I wasn't happy with the photo of them because the flash washed out most of the depth of color. It looks much nicer in person. To get the hinge on correctly I had glue on the catch and put the hinge at a 90-degree angle and from there I could slide the top portion of the head on, and slide in the spirit stone/joints while seeing them connect. If anyone decides to do this... only glue the outside part of the stone where it locks to the head, not the inside part where it needs to move, but if you're buying the model you probably already know that.

I decided against attaching the dreadlocks, but I reserve the right to change my mind if I feel the urge in the future to attach a series of thin and flimsy resin bits that are likely to fall off or break at some point.

Here's a close up of the Eye of Isha effect I painted on and was very happy with. It's pretty much the same as the one on my Revenant. I know not everyone will probably like this bit of flair, but I was extremely happy with it and feel like it's one of those small things that will make my Phantom look really unique.

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

    Thanks for the support guys!

I got some major work done last night. I did both the right holo fin:

    And the middle chest plate:

And did both of the middle shoulder pads in bone (though you don't really see it unless you're at the right angle) and managed to do a lot more cementing and final settings. I'm considering pushing the titan back about an inch or an inch and a half on the base. I positioned him with the weight of the holo field generators in mind, but I'm no longer worried about the stability of him being to towards the middle.

I've also got a couple shots that will give you an idea of what the final weapon positions will look like. I may attempt to convert a CCW while waiting for FW to actually produce one.

Getting such large sections done make me feel like this project is really flying by now.

One thing that I should add is that the missile pods fit very snugly against the epaulettes (or pauldrons if you prefer). When you're prepping the shoulders I'd defintely recommend taking this into account as you plan the pose of your titan.

The internal pads have a latch so the lowest one can have a dropped look, or you can keep them pushed in. While I think the dropped look allows for more flexibility of what you want to do in positioning the model's arms it's much harder to secure and that should be something for consideration. As much as this is a "hey look what I've done" log it's also a bit of a how-to for phantoms at this point.

Say, you, GoW, and HwG might want to collaborate and make a "Phantom Assembly Guide". It'd be a great resource to future Phantom Steersmen (no offense intended, Eldargal).

The Titan itself looks amazing. I tip my hat to you!

That is just superb. The Diorama on the base of that guy is stunning. Love the concept of rescuing a downed Vyper pilot! Bravo. You don't see much Ulthwe these days and I think thats a shame.

I think that'd be massively appreciated. I know I have all your logs bookmarked for the off chance I manage to ever get one of these for myself, but a single, cohesive guide would be amazing.
