    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

    Thanks, Talon.

I actually would have gotten to use this bad boy in a game this weekend if I hadn't developed some plague-like illness. Ah well, it just left me more time to finally get to read Path of the Seer. but I haven't been totally idle on the Titan front:

This is a makeshift CCW for the Phantom until a proper one is released by FW, or a secondary shooting weapon that really gets me excited.

I know it's not the greatest, but it's a place holder so try not to judge too harshly. Also, it's not painted yet.

Well the new CCW has been show at this years GD and lookes awesome. Its a fricking massive sword!!!
More importantly are the rules tweaks in the Apoc book from the experimentals.

The Phantom got much tougher for your 2500 point investment! Am suitably impressed. If only psychic powers worked on Super heavies...adding some Fortune would be immense.

Rules? Was that second edition Apoc or did you see them from Mymeria? How much tougher and were there other weapon options listed?

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

This was in the new advanced order Imperial Armour Apocalypse 2nd Edition released at Games Day UK yesterday.
The weapon stats have not altered, but the rules on advanced holofields inv save, the Spirits and the Agile rules improved greatly (IMO)
Obviously I cannot reproduce the rules changes here.
But rest assured, the improvements are most intriguing!

Awesome news. Will buy a copy of that book sharpish!

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

I'm hoping that means I get the 3+ save by giving up firing one primary weapon (thus giving me a defense for taking the CCW other than how amazingly cool it looks).

It figures they'd release images of it the day after I finish my stand-in. I'm glad to see it got a little back end beefing as well. I'll be ordering the sword the day FW puts up a button allowing me to do so.

It's cool seeing your Phantom Titan put together.
I've finally constructed mine and primed it, just need to paint it up. But I did get a chance to use it. Based on the rules on the website, which have been tweaked (not sure if it's the same as in the IA:Av2 but it's way over priced. A 700pt greater daemon (Scabiatrix sp?) tied up the whole game but destroying the titan on the last round.

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

Well, folks, it's nearly time to complete that Titan in all its slender glory as today when I got home there was a package waiting for me:

The weapon feels considerably lighter than the D-cannon and is considerably more slender, not just at the blade but on the mount as well. Also it should be noted that the Starcannons on this have a different connection than the shoulder Starcannon's socket. When the kit arrived the extremely slender blade was considerably bent out of shape, but some quick work with a hair dryer straightened it right out.

I also noticed that the runes scriven into the blade are unique to each side:

Overall I'm really excited about this piece and I'm looking forward to finally getting it all done. As a side note I've been working on some fluff for the Titan including a name and I'll be posting that along with the completed pictures once this arm is done.

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

I put in more than a few hours work on the blade so far. I don't know that I'll get to complete this by the end of the weekend, but I'm encouraged by the progress I've made so far. My goal for the blade was to make it seem like it's glowing and I think I accomplished that. It's too bad that the flash has a tendency to wash out the nice fade that's going on, but in real life the effect is kind of dramatic.

At first I wasn't sure what color to make the runes as I started, anticipating making them a bright contrast, perhaps red to the weapon's blue. However, as I started making the weapon have that soft warmth to it I decided that the most appropriate way to go would be to make the runes glow bright blue to white on the coolest part of the weapon. I'm very happy with how it came out:

Also, welcome to Warseer Manwe. Thanks for making my plog the home of your first post.

    Re: Fable's Ulthwe Army

One more completed Eldar Phantom Titan to add to warseer's ranks. I'm quite happy with how the model came out and at some point one of my friends who is a pro photographer may take some high quality shots of it, and if that happens I'll defintely post them. But here is the end of a very long project and probably my finest piece of work. Also I've written up a history which I've included here. Pics both above and below the history and the first pic is a ground view of the phantom, what an enemy knocked on its back would see.

The Phantom Titan Tuathanuada of Fir Dedanann, Prophets of The Storm, on Ulthwe is armed with the Phantom Close Combat Weapon Claiomh Solais, the Sword of Victory, and the Phantom D-Cannon Areadbhar, the Spear of Light. Of all the Phantom Titan Clans the Prophets of The Storm are known for advancing to the front of large engagements to allow other battle formations to shift their location for daunting tactical strikes elsewhere while the Phantom fades away from combat after stalling or destroying the enemy.

Unlike some titan variants that are piloted by triplets those of Fir Dedanann solely rely on a single steersman to operate titans along with a sophisticated array of spirit stones that work in harmony with the pilot resulting in a machine that functions with the speed, reflexes and agility of a living creature. Phantom Titans of the Fir Dedanann are piloted by reclusive Steersmen who maintain the personality and name of their Titan even when they are not actively operating the machine. In fact, it is believed they can maintain a level of control over the empty vessel even when they are not at the helm, as if their temporary forays outside of the construct were as much spiritual out of body experiences as they are physical voyages.

Tuathanuada is known by many craftworlds for settling a dispute between Craftworlds Ulthwe and Iyanden through ritual battle between Fir Dedanann and Fir Lirithion. On Ulthwe Tuathanuada is known for fending off a rogue Waaagh led by the now deceased Warlord Durazell when the Koppah Topz Rok appeared for a short time in a warp storm a short distance from the Eye of Terror.

Among the records of the Imperium Tuathanuada is the subject of many Litanies of Hate for forcing a stalemate in what would have been an unquestioned imperial victory for the combined forces of the Cadian 105th and the Emperor’s Centurions chapter of Space Marines. After the destruction of a Warlord Titan the Phantom Titan held off the spearhead of the Imperial Advance long enough for the forces of Ulthwe to safely return to the Webway before itself disappearing into the labyrinthine ways before enemy forces could mount a cohesive response.

*SILDANI TIPS HIS HAT TO FABLE*

That is lovely. The sword is beautifully done, and the overall Titan is menacing. Love the history, too.

And now a request to you and the other Bonesingers of Phantoms: how's the Phantom Assembly Guide coming along?

    Thank you Sildani,

It's coming. The delay lies with me. HWG and GOW provided me with photos and I was unable to incorporate them into the draft of the directions we have due to a trip overseas as I prepare for a move to Australia this upcoming year followed by me receiving the CCW. I wanted to get that done so I could add it in to the how-to as well. I'm hoping to have a working version done within the next two weeks.

Both HWG and GOW were very thorough in documenting their progress and process with photos so I'm taking my time trying to edit it down to the most effective photos.

Thanks for the painting and fluff Compliment. I tried to incorporate my regular opponents into it as well and seeing as how the old WD110 never got into detail on what Clan of Titans is most prominent on Ulthwe I felt like I could make up my own by delving into some Irish lore (Tuatha De Dannan). I also tried to incorporate the old Epic fluff of triplet pilots (also noted in Path of the Seer) with FW's more recent fluff of a single Exarch pilot.

As I did most of my painting by hand (with only primer being airbrushed) I probably spent, between cleaning, building, basing, and painting roughly 700 hours on the project over the last 8 months.

I haven't seen any other painted Phantom with the CCW yet so that makes this one a bit unique for the time being, but in all honesty, I'm happy I waited. Visually I'm far happier with the CCW than I would have been with Pulsar.

This log is going to seem so much less impressive as I get back to working on smaller units and conversions again.

Hey Fable! Just dropping in to say how much I enjoyed your plog and hope you keep posting. Your army is truly a masterpiece and I love how much thought and effort you put into each individual model.

If I did this correctly then our How To Build A Phantom Titan pdf should be attached to help any other builders for this excellent model that will test your patience and perseverance. Enjoy! I honestly hope it helps people learn from our fumbling and build the Phantom as they envision it.

I should mention "our" = HaywireGrenade (HwG), Ghost of War (GoW) and myself (Fable)

We take our time, but we keep our promises and finish our projects.
