    IG...with a little flavor

So I am from New Orelans, the wonderfully swamp surrounded city, and I wanted an IG army to feel like they were protecting New Orleans. So I created my Louisiana Guard.

I have just recently got into warhammer, my wife and I had played some warmachine, but I wanted to try and go back to this game that I had collected years ago. Recently I was cleaning out alot of the old junk Hurricane Katrina destroyed (Yes there still is damage in the city, we are a lazy lot who moves at a slower pace then the rest of the world.) Anyway I came across some really old models and bits. I decided to use these and other bits to try and make your typical IG army a little different.....

Bare in mind that I suck at painting, and am just starting out in this world of table top gaming....but I wanted to see if people had any ideas for other guard conversions or unique units to add.

I have got about a 1000 points built and ready to go.

SO here are some my Louisiana Guard.

sorry of the lengthy post...dont know proper forum etiquette yet.

Looking good, nice use of bretonian parts.

When posting pictures there is a little icon with a mountain on the tool bar in the reply screen called insert image. Click on that and enter the link into that for the individual photos.

Some nice kitbashing work, well done! I think a highlight to the faces would be very worthwhile, although I like the dirtier look to the uniforms.

    Thanks for the input,

Next up: The militia....(ok they count as Penal Legion but I will not have criminals defending my honorable swamp...)

First pic an overview of the guys (team leader in front) second pic showing some of the gear they carry. I wanted them to look like farmers/hunters so they have things like birds and rabbits (that they hunted) as part of their gear.

Oh sweet, I am still learning how all this crazy online technology works, I mean I am from the great state of Louisiana where high-tech stuff and high literacy levels just don't seem to exist.

Anyway here is the gear on the "militia" counts as penal legion.... but I would never have criminals defend the glorious swamp.
I wanted these guys to be farmers/hunters so I gave them birds and rabbits (that they hunted) as part of their gear.

So far these guys are fun to use in the game, but they tend to get shot up quickly....

So here are some of my favorite units that is ready to go:
This is a photo of Harker and Crew, and below another picture of my SWS (demo team-made up of 2 demo guys and a flame). the demo squad all sport a different helmet from the rest of the army, helps them stand out a little.

Thoughts? Any idea where I could get some parts for gators? lizards? crawfish? frogs? or any other swamp stuff? Thanks

    Re: IG...with a little flavor

I really like them, they're looking great.

I've been planning to do a few Guardsmen with Bretonian heads myself, just got to wait until I'm back in England to pick up the Bretonian bitz box I have.

As to swamp stuff, I think Greenstuff will be your best bet as your only after very small things. Gators would probably a toy store hunt around the animal things, otherwise I think the only GW range is Lizardmen that have any frogs, but I can't say if there would be anything usable.

MegaMiniatures has gators for $2 a piece or six for $8 plus shipping.

They also have turtles and various kinds of dogs, but no frogs or crayfish.

That looks cool. I cant wait to see more. One of the squads in my Vostroyan army is sporting bret hats, and I am pleased with how they look. I like the guardsman sporting the AK.

Good start to a grubby looking swamp rat force! Solid looking conversions and very creative. What will you be doing for the bases?

Thanks for the kind words guys, and ideas. I really like those gators from the website, thanks.
As for basing...not sure yet, I am still new to this hobby and have never based a model in my life, but I plan on basing them all at once(when the whole crew is done). I was thinking of getting some sort of ferns in there maybe....i dont know yet...

As for the Fleur-de-Lys, I already have several from the Bretonnian line put aside and just waiting to be used on the right models, maybe my new command squad...if I ever get to that.

So I have been busy working on a squad that is taking far longer than I thought, but it is a squad I have been wanting to make scince I first saw IG.

But for now I want to show my Carapace armored Vets... there is two meltas, a plasma and a HB team.
I won my first game today with this army, and these guys did some damage. Anyway here you go:

(Oh, ya I know these are not the most original conversions by using scout bits, but I really like the way they contrast with the rest of the normal armored grunts.)

    Re: IG...with a little flavor

Hey guys. I do plan on basing once the whole army is done...but I have never bases before so I am kinda-of holding out till I have no more excuses, yes I am scared to base. I really want to a base with ferns and maybe a water element or at least some dirt.

Well here are some pictures of my company command squad. This includes my CCO with bolt gun and PW, a banner, a vox, a medic, a sniper, and my converted MoO. There is also my body guard, Duke. I have a Great Dane, and I really wanted him to some how be involved in the army. Here you go:

    Basing shouldent be too hard,
I would say base with sand,
Liberally apply water effect, add in reeds and static grass, would look well swampy i reckon
