This time I decided to do a battle report to celebrate the rel.ese of the new elves however finding an epic scenario was difficult so I decided to go with the Battle of the last alliance as featured in the Mordor supplement. I used the point’s modals rather than the historical warriors due to a shortage of Orc Trackers etc. Also another not is that I did not use the Larva flow or the volcanic eruption rules. As the larva rule I didn’t have what I need to pull that off and I just forgot about the eruptions and only remember from about turn 4 onwards. So here are the men that took part.
Gil-galad
Elendil
Isildur
Erestor
23 Elf warriors 8 Elven blade, 7 Shield and spear, 7 Elf Bow, 1 Banner (All with heavy armour)
30 Warriors of Numenor 10 with shield, 10 Shield and spear, 10 bow
Total points – 503Sauron – One ring
Orc Taskmaster

Orc Captain – Warg and shield
37 Orc Warriors 12 Shield, 12 Spear, 6 Orc Bow, 6 two-handed weapons, 1 banner
14 Warg Riders 4 Shield, 6 Throwing spears and shield, 4 Orc Bow
1 Troll
Total points – 700
Deployment
The warriors deployed in 6 groups. Erestor in the south and Isildur to the north each with an even number of warriors of their own race with them. The archers deployed in-between each group. The orcs formed 1 large shield wall with all other men hiding behind it. The troll hid in the ruins.
Turn 1
The good forces all marched forward as fast as possible with archers reading there bows as they went. 8 of the Warg riders broke formation and headed for the hill but positioning themselves out of bow range and hoping to use the hill as a make shift shield form bow fire. The elves let their bows fly killing 1 orc in the shield wall. Then men proved to be useless with volley fire with every arrow missing.
Turn 2
Evil got priority and used this to get the Warg to shelter behind the hill. However Gil-galad moved to intercept the wargs fearing that Erestor and his men may not be able to handle so many. Unfortunately this move blocked of almost all of the archers line of sight giving them only 2 shot in the shooting phase. Even with 2 arrows they still find a mark and kill 1 orc who had strayed from the shield wall. The men now in range of the normal shots seemed to have taken stupid pills with not one of the 10 even hitting an orc.
Turn 3
Good got priority that there fortune and as so Erestor and his men backed off outside of a charge from a Warg. The wargs not being able to anything else position themselves onto of the hill and ready there bows. The Elven archers prove why they are so skilled with a bow and kill another 3 orcs from the shield wall. The men also do better taking their head out of the ground and kill another 2 orc in the shield wall. The Orc now within range with their bows prove why you should never give a bow to and orc with ALL 10 bow armed orc missing.
Turn 4
With Evil priority the Wargs strike and pounce on Erestor and a few of his Warriors. However the rest of the elves and some of Gil-galads men counter attack. The Orc finally get lucky a kill one Numenorian with a black feathered bow. However the Elf’s quickly put this triumph down by killing another 3 Orcs. The men fearing another GOOD round of shooting stuck there heading in the ground again and failed to hit anything again. The Wargs managed to kill 2 of the elves but Erestor kills another Warg in return.
Turn 5
With evil winning priority all of the evil forced retreated back as out of range. The Warg reeling is a mixed battle last turn and Gil-galad closing in retreaded to a range to use their bows and spears. While the main orc line (Now lacking in shields) retreated back 2” so that they were now in the 12” mark, and as soon as good closed that line Sauron would arrive. Isildur also got stuck in charging the trolls who was defending the ruins to the north. Good not wanting to undone Charged what orcs they could breaking that mark. The elves shot down another 4 orcs in the shooting phase with the men taking down another 2. Unfortunately the orcs must have been how to shoot by then men and everyone one of them missed. Isildur did well and wounded the troll but partly due to poor rolls form the troll. With 4 more orcs being put to the sword Elendil used a point of might to try and kill the Orc captain but failed to wound him even once.
Turn 6
The Wargs now went back on the attack thanks to evil getting priory again charging everyone they could however both Warg riders who charged Gil-galad failed there courage tests stalling before the Elven king. The tide started to turn as Sauron now stormed onto to field casting Sap Will on Elendil using 1 point of might to do so. All thought it was resisted Sauron got his will back thanks to the taskmaster. 4 of the Nemenourian archers spot Sauron and open fire with their bows with all of them hitting him but not a single wound (Completely forgetting that strength 2 bows can’t wound the defence 10 Sauron). Isildur repeats last turns susses by wound the troll again however evil started to get the upper hand. They killed 3 men and an elf but lost 2 orcs and 5 wargs in the process forcing them down to braking point.
Turn 7
Evil gained priority and thanks to some lucky rolls most of the evil force passes there courage tests thanks to their heroes however 1 lone Warg rider and Warg still had to pass there tests. The rider flees but the Warg not only passes but successfully charges Gil-galad. This Warg was promptly names “Super Warg” for passing 3 courage tests in a row with almost perfect rolls each time. Sauron gets stuck in now trying to recreate history by slaying Elendil. Meanwhile the Taskmaster made the stupid mistake of jumping in the line of sight of the elves with bows and toke 2 wounds for his trouble with only his might and will keeping him alive. Combat goes well for Evil killing 5 men and Sauron even wounds Elendil twice. However they lost 1 orc and 1 Warg rider and the Troll instead freeing up Isildur to make his way to help his father.
Turn 8
With good finally getting priority the Orc captain tries to call a heroic move and stop there charge but fails. With all the heroes engaged the warriors were forced to pass their courage tests on their own. Out of the 7 who had to take tests only one passed, The Banner bearer. Sauron manages to wound Elendil once again but this victory is short lived as Isildur kills a Warg rider and the Orc captain on Warg.
Turn 9
With evil gaining the upper hand again with priority Sauron charged the king contempt on ending this once and for all. However the Orc captain flees scared of the massive amount of elves and men. Even worse the Taskmaster is then killed. However not all was lost as Sauron killed 1 man and Elendil ending the kings rain one and for all.
Turn 10
Isildur senses a heroic combat that could catapult him into Sauron however due to bad luck he can’t kill it even using his last point of might to win the combat. Meanwhile Sauron turns the elves and men into matchsticks and kills 5 men in 1 swing of his mace.
Turn 11
With Evil Priority Sauron sees Gil-galad approaches so he casts a chill soul taking 1 wound of Gil-galad who saves it with his fate. Evil had a spot of luck this turn with not one orc dead and the Banner bearer even managed to fight of all 3 of his Elven assailants and kills one too. While Sauron shows how it should be done killing another 5 men and wounding Gil-galad.
Turn 12
With only 3 orcs left Priority was important for evil to keep those orc fighting but when evil lost it Sauron had to call a heroic move which thankfully his got thanks to a rolls of with Gil-galad. However Evil had really bad luck as all 3 of those orcs were killed and even Sauron took a wound thanks to a well placed Elven blade. But on a bright side Gil-galad was struck down with a Chill soul from Sauron.
Turn 13
With only Sauron left and evil losing priority good sense victory near and called a mass charge only for them to get beaten back and 4 body’s flung into the air and a wound on Erestor for their troubles.
Turn 14
With evil winning priority Erestor called a heroic move in order to stops any magic being cast but he failed in a roll of with Sauron. With Isildur now Transfixed Sauron hoped to end this battle only to be cursed with a poor roll and to take another wound from a spear.
Turn 15
With good getting priority Sauron uses his last point of might to call a heroic move and charges into Isildur. With no might left good can only watch as Sauron rips apart 6 more men and wounds Isildur.
Turn 16, 17 and 18
Sauron wins priority and chills Isildur soul wounding him. However he can’t kill anyone else this turn. In turn 17 NOTHING happened. No magic worked, no wounds nothing. Turn 18 spent doom for the forces of good as Sauron put everything into his last swing of his mace using up this last point of might he kills Isildur.
Evil Victory
Man of the Match
Good
For good I could say Isildur for killing the troll but it really has to go to the Elven archers who killed over 3 times their cost in points.
Evil
Sauron would have to be here but that is to be expected but I will give an honourable mention to the Taskmaster as thanks to him Sauron could kill Isildur at the end thanks to that point of might.
Waste of points
Good
I don’t think any 1 man was a waste of points but since I have to chose then I would say that the human archers where hopeless at the start of the battle. They did however pull their bows out of their ears and do something useful from turn 5 onwards though.
Evil
I think either the Orc captain on foot or the Troll as both lost ever combat they wherein and other wise did nothing but stall the enemy.
If I was to play this again I think I would take Elrond instead of Erestor as that extra might could really have come I handy and still had way to many men left at the end of the battle.
Hope you enjoyed this and sorry about the delay for this coming out because as you can seen this battle took a long time to do and my computer froze up so I couldn’t put it up till now. See you next time.
