Just finished going through the whole plog - some really fantastic stuff here EN! Your painting has certainly improved (although it was always pretty good) throughout the plog - I suppose the variety of the miniatures you are painting and the numerous different styles helps. The baking also looks top notch. Long may this thread continue!

Superb work on the ogres and the Stonehorn is coming along very nicely.

Also thanks for sharing what the Warmachine models look like with a wash on top of the undercoat as I have that same box to work on and I have also purchased the two sprays to undercoat them.

Thanks! Now I wish I had something prepared for the occasion.
    After the next 1000, then.

Without all the encouragement (which makes up nearly two thirds of the thread) I would have given up a long time ago.

That somebody woul go through the whole thread is probably the biggest compliment I have been given yet. I am humbled.

I am looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
Since Army Painter will be releasing their own line of paints soon it should be easy to pick up the perfect colour for highlighting.

I was otherwise occupied or simply too lazy to paint several days in a row, but I'm getting on track again. As a result, the Stonehorn is nearing completion, although it took (and will still take) considerably more time than I had hoped. There is a lot of detail on the model and it is very three-dimensional, by which I mean that stuff gets in the way all the time while painting other stuff.
I only have pictures taken with a flashlight, so they aren't great, but they should give you an idea:

I kinda like how the colour of the fur blends into the colour of the ground, as I think that's a bit of a realistic touch, but on the other hand it lacks contrast. Hopefully adding the grass later on will help with that.

Since lately I have had the impression that I can't handle doing four projects spread over the various tales, I finally decided that I'd drop the Dark Elves.
Of course a few hours later somebody digs up my Corsair project log and it gets positive comments, so now I feel I can't do that.
I think I'll quit the Tale of Terrain Builders instead, because painting terrain has taken far more time than I expected.

As with Basher I like the work so far on the Stonehorn, and unlike Basher I like the look of the Stonehorn as a model.

    More good stuff EmperorNorton.

I'd really like to see more highlights to the stone-face of the beast, in my mind the teeth and cheekbones in particular lack some bright, hard, edged highlights, as that would add to the "rock-hard" aspect. Also, the inside of the mouth could benefit from some washes, as it looks way too bland in these here pictures.

But enough complaining, I think it looks great as a paintjob as well as a model And even though the base is a bit lacking in detail, it brings out the lonely hunter aspect of the model nicely. Keep going, EN!

    Cheers,

Great stuff! I think you're right about the grass adding the needed contrast on him tho.

No worries. I actually liked the model a lot more before I started painting it, but now that I've had a close look there are several things about it that I don't like, e.g. that the skin is showing through the fur in various places.

You are right about the inside of the mouth, which I'll have to work on some more anyway, because I got some black on the tongue and inside of the cheeks.
Hard, edged highlights are not my thing, but I'll see what I can do.

    Thank you very much!

I haven't really done anything with it despite a little ink, but here are some more pictures of the Stonehorn in better light:

And here is a Battitore for Freebooter's Fate, almost finished:

    "Stop! Hammertime!"

It's a fairly simple model as far as Freebooter's Fate goes, but I think it still has character. The problem is that the guy looks fairly short, though, as will be apparent in a groupshot. The Battitores are the muscle of the Brotherhood, a bit like bouncers. I wish the model reflected that better.

    Re: EmperorNorton's Overabundance of Projects

Aside from painting the Battitore, I spent the better part of the weekend assembling two models. And I feel I should be awarded a frickin medal for this:

Kairos Fateweaver and a regular Greater Daemon of Tzeentch.
Kairos wasn't much of a problem, because he is designed in a way that takes into consideration that people may actually want to assemble him.

It was rather different with the Lord of Change. I ended up drilling through the whole body to put a ~25mm pin through and attach his legs. And don't even get me started on the wings...
Another interesting bit is that his legs were warped in a strange way, which is why he is leaning to one side. I actually like it this way, it gives him an interesting sense of movement. I put a bit of a ruined structure under his right leg to give it more stability and make it look like he was putting his claw into it. I also decided to put his staff with the top down like he is in full on assault mode:

I'm sorry about the blurry pictures, but this is a difficult model to photograph properly. There is stuff sticking out in every direction...

The Stonehorns look good. It would be better is the base was not so similar in colour to the fur of the Stonehorn. It seems to lend on to the base thus losing visual impact.

Perhaps a different shade of brown for the base will help with the unblending of the 2 elements?

    Cheers!

I do agree with this. The fur on the Stonehorn itself does look good but it seems to blend into the base.

I reckon once you put come grass on the base of the stonehorn it'll look fine. I would suggest some lighter highlights on the tusks and around the face in general since that's the focal point of the model, though I understand its not finished yet. Those big models do take an age to paint!

    13 pins? Wow!
Mine only has three (one through the body to pin the legs, one attaching the wings to each other and a third pinning it to the base).

The problem is that the base has to match the rest of the army, though.

That's what animals do, though, blend into their surroundings. So I think it's fitting although admittedly not ideal for the aesthetics of the tabletop.
