Don't do yourself a dis-service. It all looks great.

Liking the Hamelin (for Malifaux?) and kids - shaping up well.

    Keep up the good work.

isnt looking so good at the momment loveing the haemlin crew and i think yellow and red for the cultists like the jokers from eden
Yeah, it really isn't. But it should be turned around by the end of the month.
Not sure about yellow and red for the cultists. That seems a bit too bright, although admittedly purple is't exactly subdued either.

    Thanks.
Actually there is a painting contest for Freebooter's Fate on right now on WAMP I briefly thought about entering. But I am afraid that is way out of my league.

Thanks, but you haven't seen those Empire guys as closely as I have. The undercoat came out grainy and a bit too thick which certainly doesn't help matters. And I don't feel motivated by these minis to spend more time on them than I absolutely have to.

Always be sure to spray when the air humidity is low. The graininess come from water binding to the spray in mid air or quickly after the model is still drying.

The best way I to spray out of a window or balcony door. And hen quickly bring the models inside to dry.

As for how to paint the models above. I think capt. Iran Leon is rather straight forward with that much metal. But I would suggest a nice blue glace at the end to help get that steel look.

For some reason the other dude reminds me a little of vetinary from the Terry pratchets' disc world series. So maybe paint him in different shades of grey?

Yes, I know, but that wasn't the problem. These were undercoated about two years ago with Army Painter's spray, which has to be handled a little differently than other sprays. I hope that today the same would not happen.

Thanks for your effort, but it's not the choice of colours I find problematic. Rather the poses make certain parts of the minis very difficult to reach. I started painting Leon, though, and it turned out to be not so bad after all.

    Now some finished stuff:

Okay, to be honest there is a bunch of stuff that still could (and maybe should) be done on these, but as stated before, with the State Troopers I'm aiming more for quantity than quality and I think my time is better spent focussing on the Spearmen.

Hamelin and his crew, fully finished:

    New detail on Hamelin himself:

And the new addition, his doggie Nix:

    Re: EmperorNorton's Overabundance of Projects

Against my better judgement I got myself some resin playthings:

I wanted this ever since it was released and consequently the next Malifaux crew I'll be painting is Rasputina's. I am a bit disappointed by the Snow Storm, though. The arms did not fit well, there were a bunch of bubbles and overall I thought it would be more impressive.

    Then there's this guy:

Those of you who follow this log regularly might remember that some time ago I bought some Rhinoxen that I planned to convert into Rhinox Riders myself. But comparing the metal mounts to Forgeworld's rendition I'm nore sure how that is supposed to work:

I wanted to make the Rhinox longer anyway, but I'd also have to make it higher. That's a lot of sawing through metal, probably with a questionable outcome. Not sure it's worth the effort.

And finally, to up the random once again, we have this:

A friend of mine is getting married and this is part of his gift. Well, just the packaging actually. It's supposed to represent his car and the paintjob is supposed to match the colour. I am a bit intimidated by the kit, though. And I only have four weeks. Interesting times...

    Re: EmperorNorton's Overabundance of Projects

You don't even know half of it. Quite literally.
The other day I was searching for a box of minis, but I could not find it. So I went through everything...it was rather depressing. So much stuff and no clue how to paint it all.
I couldn't find the box I was looking for, but maybe that's a good thing. Maybe I gave it away to a former friend, but I don't remember.

I more or less finished these now:

There's a few minor details left to do, and the bases, of course.
In my attempt to go with quantity over quality I have finished 48 minis so far this month if I have counted correctly. And there still are a few days left this month. If I stick to it I might manage to finish another 30 that are halfway painted already.

Great progress! Thats a fantastic number done in a month. You may have skimped on quality but they still look great! They dont look rushed at all, so a great success there Id say. You can congratulate yourself by painting something nice that you can take a bit more time over next

That's impressive and they look good too. It's amazing how much headswaps do to a minis/units appearance!

I can barrely see the unit filler. But if your units takes enough casualties I suppose you can literally say it kicked the bucket when you remove it from play.....

But weak puns aside: Looking good what's your plan for the bases?

Oh, got some of those Empire warriors with spears, too. They were a joy to rank up! Not to compare with the current ones.

Very nice variety of stuff in here, I like that. My favorites recently must be the spearmen because I like those models a lot too. the head swaps work very, very wel and make them sufficientl varied looking. Designwise, I prefer them to the current state troops.

The Malifaux crew is shaping up nicely as well.

Good luck on the Hondy Civic. Again - very nice to break up the fantasy theme.

    Thank.
I think next month will be 'hero month' with lots of individual models. Although I should finish the twenty newer style Spearmen, too.

Thanks. The dog was surprisingly quick to paint, but I'm a little proud of how he turned out. I'm not entirely happy with the eyes, though. I tried giving them a careful purple wash to give them a bit of a mystical quality, but that did not really work out.

Snow. But mixing that stuff and applying it is boring work which I tend to postpone again and again.

The Civic looks like this now:

It's a bit problematic because you have to be very careful what to assemble before painting and vice versa.
Another problem is that my mate's car is actually mostly black. But leaving the model with just the undercoat does not look right.
Two more weeks to figure it out and finish this thing.

    I finished this:

And to prove that I'm not just reposting the one I did a couple of years ago:

And for the Tale of Board Game Painters I finished these:

The numbers in my sig look a lot better now.

    Re: EmperorNorton's Overabundance of Projects

I really don't like working on the Civic. So many big, flat surfaces...and it seems I am unable to paint a flat, even coat of paint on them. When the paint is too thin it separates and comes out patchy. Not thin enough you can see the brushstrokes. I think the only way to do this properly would be with an airbrush, but I'm no good with that either. Or maybe acrylics are not the right kind of paint for this. Modellers usually use enamels IIRC.
A finishing coat of satin varnish should help, but I'm not that far yet.

The underside was nice and easy, sprayed silver, black wash, done:

The outside has been painted in a very dark grey now:

I think I'll have to give the hood another lighter coat to make it match the original.

    And the inside:

About half a dozen decals are supposed to go there, which I am not looking forward to. I never get decals right and these are tiny and I don't have replacements.
Ah well, I'll try putting them on tomorrow. After that I can assemble it fully and finish painting the exterior. For which I'll have to remember to wear a glove, because otherwise I'll leave fingerprints all over it.

On the fun side I am sticking to Malifaux for the moment, namely Rasputina and her minions:

The Ice Golem and the Gamins are pretty much done, but I might give their claws another highlight. The Wendigo is a drybrush and some details from being done, too. Rapsutina herself and the Snow Storm will be a lot more work.
