    Thanks, guy.
The icyness was actually easy to do and quick, too.
Blue wash over a white undercoat, careful drybrush with white, gloss varnish, done.

This little lady has proven to be a lot more work:

Now THAT is cool. That splash of blue on the sash and goggles is fantastically executed.

And Tina(? I'm just repeating what I see here, have next to no idea of Malifaux myself) looks great too, the color splash for one and the icy pale skin really let this mini shine.

    It's Rapsutina, actually.
I'm not entirely happy with the skin, to be honest. It came out a little rough on her face. The mini has the same problem a lot of older sculpts from Wyrd have, the finer details are not very well defined, especially the hands. That, of course, has a negative effect on the painting.

Thanks. I've been using Vallejo's grey wash to tie the layers together and it worked well.

Today I've been working on the Snow Storm. He's not completely finished yet, but pretty close:

While I am still sitting on the fence re: Malifaux, I am curious to see the work you do on this 'Snow Storm' thing. Very cool (and no pun intended...).

Thanks. It's a pretty cool model, although the casting quality was not all that great.

For now I've been putting some more work into the Civic. And I royally screwed it up. With the wedding in a week I don't have time to order a new one and start over, either. And even if I had, it was too expensive to do that, really.
    Here it is:

Glueing the windows in was truly horrible, because there was nothing holding them in place.
The worst part is that glue spilled on the front window. I tried to wipe it off, which meant I got it all over the place. Then I tried to scrape it off, which meant I got scratches all over the window. Tried to polish out the scratches, but that did not really work, either. I thought watered down varnish might fill them in, but that did not work.
So my plan is to add some water effect and paint a backdrop, making it look like the car is driving out of the rain into the sunshine. You know, as a way to wish the happy couple a lot of brighter days in their future or something.
There'll also be a fairly big amount of money included, which should hopefully take attention away from the model...

Wow, you're really good at painting cold-looking things. The Snow Storm looks very coooold! Brr... Do you think if the model could do as a treekin or treeman? It looks forest spirit-y enough, it seems and I was wondering its size. Any chance for a size comparison with a treeman or treekin? If not, perhaps something close to that size, say an ogre or a giant?

Ah, forgot. Will take a picture next time.
It should be possible to use the model as a Treeman. With the right paintjob it should look quite nice - the skin painted like bark, the hair as some kind of mossy growth. And the antlers fit in thematically. It might be a bit short, but it's very broad and a 50mm base would be the minimum, you couldn't fit this guy on a 40mm base.

    Thanks.

And the car kinda turned out okay in the end:

This proves what the regular followers of this plog have suspected for a long time: I really do have the painting skills of a half-witted four year old.
I expect most of the gifts to be plain white envelopes, so this should stand out nicely nonetheless.
Tomorrow I'll see what kind of small cans I can find which are supposed to be tied to the back of the car and will have banknotes wrapped around them.

I don't know if anyone can truly "win" the gift table at a wedding, but I think your display there will take the cake. Mmmm, wedding cake.

cutting up segments of thin PVC pipe could work well if you're trying to scratch build some cans You'd just need to bevel the edges to make sure they don't look like soup cans. Or if you're lazy, and loaded with excess cash if you have a local comic book shop with tons of figurines there's usually at least a few that have fully detailed cans for accessories (I can think of at least one figurine of Misato from Neon Genesis that comes with a six pack of beer cans).

Hope your friends' wedding goes well,

Ooh, that's a great looking Rasputine you've got there! The lining of the stripes in black looks awesome - can't believe how fiddly that must've been.

Raspy looks great, nice colours on the coat. I didn't know Snow Storm was resin, but it looks quite well painted already.

Have fun at the wedding and that is what those windows do for you. As a kid I build quite a few model planes and ruined half of them adding the cockpit windows. Still looks good enough as a present.

And I see you have leveled the painted above the bought so that must look bright as well. Keep it up.

Really nice Malifaux models EN - you really seem to have nailed the highlighting on the greys and blues, and Rasputina's skin tone is excellent.

Thanks, guys. I'll get back to your comments later.

At the moment the pressing issue for me is related to this, though:

There is some controversy among my friends who are chipping in for the wedding gift. Some have expressed concern that the presence of the clouds could be cause for conflict. Painting frowny faces in them would not help with that.
I find the message I intended with the backdrop abundantly clear. The happy couple (represented by the car, which resembles the groom's car) is moving from a stormy past into a bright and sunny future. It's really meant to be nice.
What do you all think? Could this be taken the wrong way?

I guess it could be if you and your friends have had conflict with the grooms wife to-be. But if you've all gotten on well in the past I don't think it would be taken the wrong way.
