That is kind of you to say, but I'm inclined to disagree, mainly because I usually do not like extreme highlights.
These sculpts don't really lend themselves to being painted in a more subtle way, though.

    Thanks.
They may be rather plain, but if painted in a comic style they should look good.

Just noticed that you've started painting the set, lovely work with the Paladin. The hair and the cloak are very well done, but I see the sword is quite "grainy". Was the paint clogged?

I like the flat areas, you do them justice. however I'd like to see something special done to that sword as it is quite plain at the moment and the graininess draws the eye in a not so good way. Perhaps a glaze of blue/green would do it?

    Cheers,

I really like that! The hair in particular looks particularly smooth! I cant wait to see more of it!

Also, I see you ended up with a slightly bendy mage-staff as well. The join there is a real pain, isn't it?

Yes, yes, YES! The eyes on your model are actually better than the ones I (think I) saw from the publishers themselves!! You did a waaaay better job at it.

But! The gem needs to be manga-fied a little bit with nice shiny effects and the entire sword could do with another dark wash to make it pop a little more.

The undercoat came out a little bit rough, maybe because it was the last bit in the can or maybe it was a little too humid.
I'll try a blue glaze on the sword.

It truly is. It wouldn't fit at all.

    I'll work on that.

Tried it for the first time yesterday and it was fun, if somewhat confusing. The rulebook could be clearer and better structured.
It's very fast paced and brutal and you can clearly see the inspiration taken from console RPGs.
Hopefully I can get my friends to play this more often.

As many of you probably have figured out this thread is in large parts inspired by a certain member of these boards, who has awed a lot of people with the huge amounts of minis he has collected and painted. And every once in a while he shows that not only is he a fantastic painter, but also a cake decorator of remarkable talent.
And in that vein I have decided to show my own attempts in the baking department, although I'm afraid I fall short in this as well as the painting:

Here we have Spekulatius Cookies, Maple Walnut Cookies, Cashew Toffee and baked marzipan filled with blackberry jelly (these are at the bottom of the box, so not really pictured).
    Next project: Chocolate Pistachio Cookies!

    Re: EmperorNorton's Overabundance of Projects

It always baffles me to hear when somebody says they don't like marzipan.
The one thing that is good in life...

Anyway, between making batches of cookies I very occasionally do some painting. I finished my Ironguts, which are the last troops for my Ogres (not counting Gnoblars or the unopened Battalion I bought in anticipation of the prices going up):

Next on my project list is more Freebooter's Fate, especially the Imperials.
I've been listening to a lot of Gilbert and Sullivan lately, which put me in the mood.

Maybe baking will be the next trend in plogging, like workspace photos and pet photos. I sure hope not, cause this is leaving me hungry!
Nice ogres! Does that mean you're done with the tale already?

@DAGabriel: You are living the dream man! All I have is lousy Dominosteine, of which I bit off all the marzipan parts already.

So "Emperor Norton's Overabundance of Pies"? "This week I have mostly been baking..."? "Juicytomatoes Plog'o'Pies"? "Putty's Pie Plog"? "Daniel36's Marzipan and Other Pies"? "A tale of Bakers"?

    Ugh... I sure hope not...

To wind back to the previous page, the undercoats on the WM stuff look utterly fantastic. Is the Army Painter spray undercoat better than W's offerings?

Are you familiar with the story of Christian Heinrich Heineken by any chance?

No, it just means that I'm done with the repetitive common troops. Now I can move on to the fun big stuff.

I dunno, it's a bit boring unless you get to taste what everybody's baked.

I'd say that yes, the black and white equivalents are better. The colour sprays are better in a way, too, but mostly different. They can be a bit difficult to use and occasionally cause problems, but if you use them properly you can keep that to a minimum.

Here's what the Warmachine pieces look like after a wash:

Regrettably, there was more pooling than I had hoped. This seems to happen no matter how careful I am. Now I have to figure out what shade of red to work with on the Khador minis. But these are very low priority at the moment anyway.

I am very happy with my decision to undercoat this big boy in brown:

It has probably saved me hours of my time. He's still in the early stages, but I am happy that after about an hour or so you can already see some progress.
For the Freebooter minis that's quite different...
