    Epic of three gamers.....

Hi all. After finally moving in together (Silentsmoke, Alex_H, Wulfenkind) we have begun to constuct the gaming table that we always wanted.

    MDF Board (L)2440 x (W)1220 x (T)12mm 2 £27.96
    Sawn Kiln Dried Timber (L)2400 x (W)100 x (T)47mm 14 £48.58
    Sawn Kiln Dried Timber (L)3000 x (W)75 x (T)47mm 2 £7.60
    Hex Bolt Zinc Plated 10 x 150mm 32 £39.36
    Abru Mini Bracket (L)40mm x (W)20mm x (H)40mm 20 £19.00
    Hex Nut Exterior AVF-852954 Pack Of 10 (W)M10 4 £7.40
    £149.90

What you see above is the cost of one 6 x 6 ft gaming table. We plan to have three of these in total.

The idea of the table is that we each want to build a 6 by 6 theme but at the same time it will enable us to combine all three together to make 18 x 6 ft table!!!

The top of the table will be modular so we can chop and change terrain and the like. One end of the table will have space for our painting stations.

We should have the first table built within the next two days as I have not painted for a month and it is driving me mad!! Both the the guys want to stick stuff together and paint!! We are all looking forward to having this one completed.
    We will keep this updated.

FYI, I'm planning to build an Ice World table, whilst I Silentsmoke is wanting to construct a Siege table and Wulfrenkind will be building a CityFightBoard.

    Subscribed!

That table is massive, 3 of them is epic! Looking forward to seeing this finished, but looking forward even more to seeing a battle report for the first battle where you use all 3 tables!

The key to success is making each of the boards transist from one theme to another...if done well the table sounds like it'll be absolutely beautiful!

Can't wait to see the results!

The individual boards will look quite different (mine will be winter based vs the other will be different seasonal) however I expect we will all combine on enough terrain for the epic 18 x 6 table.

However I have found that less is more on apoc sized boards.

This evening saw the three of us get down to some serious wood work. I sat down and measured and calculated all the drill holes required. This was in turn passed on to SilentSmoke (with his shiny new toy) to drill the holes which finally was expertly sanded down by Wulfen_kind.

    Extreme head gear was required.

After 3 hours hard graft the table began to take shape.

40 mins later we had a completed frame, although tempers were beginning to fray.

Since Silentsmoke "won" the fight, Wulfen_Kind had to be the board holder.

    Looks pretty sturdy so far.

How often do you think that you guys'll be working on the tables?

    Re: Epic of three gamers.....

With Silentsmoke beginning work this morning at 6am left just WulfenKind and myself to continue work on the table (although Wulfenkind was called into work at 12). Firstly we put the sheets into place to discover that it didn't quite fit which resulted in about an hour of sanding/planing to ensure it fit snugly in.

The MDF sheets are been held in place by the table legs and 5 rests (this might be a little bit of overkill but we want to ensure the table doesn't collapse when we have a number of armies in place)

This are being held in place by a number of L brackets, which resulted in myself having to screw in 120 screws. My right arm is already shattered.

What do you mean working on the table? Using it as a gaming board or making the terrain? Personally I expect the table to be used pretty much most nights for a game of one kind or another / miniature painting (If you look at Silentsmokes personal army log you'll see that he is a RAPID painter)

In terms of terrain, I'd expect some quick work on this as well. I am currently unemployed so my only limit is funding.

Looks good. Very solidly built as it will need to be to support all those tanks and bugs. Have you started formulating a plan for your ice world scenery?

It is very solid it supports my weight and i'm not a small guy. As for terrain, I have some ideas. Before I really begin I want to re-watch the TOP gear Polar special for ideas.

Now 120 screws later, 3 bloody knuckles and some gratefully received help from a friend, (Thanks Wolfen)

    TA DA!

Not bad for the same monies as a realm of battle board.

The green tiles are from Silentsmoke's old gaming board and show here to be 6ft x 4.

    What a monster!

Nice work there, I hope you've got long arms

Are you gonna texture the board itself or use modular squares on top?
Sorry if you've said already, couldn't see it anywhere.

    Re: Epic of three gamers.....

With the table built, Silentsmoke and Wulfen_Kind went to Ikea and brought us some stools to use at the table.

Silentsmoke also brought some display cases for his armies,

I have a whole book case for the larger elements of my own.

Now we can all begin work on our individual armies.
