This week we have been mostly building and gaming.
Wulfen_Kind has built and finished his space marine battle company. Silentsmoke has been constructing his Reaver (see his log) and I have been constructing my Tyranids. (See my Log)
In between this, Wolfen came over and joined up with the battle company to take on the Tyranid Horde. We decided for the opening battle to christen the table we would have a 6,000 a side Apocalypse game.
Below are some pictures of the deployment showing off the Nid and Space marine hordes. After 7 turns, although the Tyranids were reduced to less than a 10th of the starting horde they were able to hold three objectives to the marines one.
Other events include a guest coming over and bringing his scummy Eldar army, defeating both the Tyranids and the Dark Angels. Today The Dark Angels and Tyranids then fought a very much a one sided victory game, with the Tyranids being 'tabled' at just the cost of 1 Terminator and 4 Sternguard.
All the while Silentsmoke continued to build the Reaver.

Today saw Silentsmoke continue work on his Reaver. Wulfen_Kind built more scouts to expand his bolter squad. I worked on my greening my Hive Tyrant and then went and brought some materials to begin work on my winter table.
The evening brought a battle. Silent_Smoke had yet played on the table, but did not want to use his Krieg without his Reaver. So Wulfen_Kind agreed to team up and take on the Nids in another 6000 point game (Red Scorpians and Dark angels combined taking a force organisiation each). We agreed not to make this Apoc, but because of the force organisation charts and inexpensive Nids, I was 400 points short. However the two guys kindly allowed me to take a Trygon to make up the points.
The battle began at 8.30pm and at the time of writing I have just finished my turn 3. (Game is pitched battle/Seize ground I have first turn 5 objectives. 1 in my deployement and the other 4 in the marine deployment zone)
First picture shows the initial deployments, and on seeing the amount of fire power the marines had at their disposal (3 Land Raiders and 2 Vindicators, and a Master of the Forge with a conversion beamer FFS) and seeing drop pods fall in my deployment l I felt I was facing a mountain to climb.
Wulfen_Kind had just one objective - Kill as many tyranids as he could and he made sure his Dark Angels understood.

Ok, so its probably about time that I posted on our thread!
So we have now finished the game with Alex_H rolling a 1 to see if we went into turn 7 resulting in a hard fought win for him.
Today saw us playing turns 3-6 of a terribly difficult game for both the Tyranids and Imperial forces. The Major points of fighting being for bunker based ojective in Alex_h's Deployment zone and the two objectives in the corners of mine and Silentsmoke's deployent zone.
Out of TWENTY NINE possible troop choices combined at the beginning of the game only FOUR were left on the table. The notable mentions, both good and bad were:
Imperial commanders forgetting to employ the prometheus comand tank's reserve re-roll thus totally mis-coordinating our attempt to siege the objective in Alex_H's deployment zone.
The Trygon deep striking only to do die under a hail of Sternguard bolter fire before achieving ANYTHING.
And the Vanguard unit getting raped by a unit of gaunts in one round of combat.
The remainder of forces committed to controlling the objective in Alex_H's deployment zone.
The winning Tyranids holding the only captured objective and the deciding dice roll.
A hairy moment for the Imperials at the beginning of the day and turn 3.

Looked like a good game, someone has got to beat those nids soon!![]()
Alex_H has started his board after Wolfen phoned and told me to give him some abuse - and to stay away from the X360, which myslef and Wulfen_kind found very funny.
COMMITTED!!!!!

About time !![]()
Hmmm hardly a flattering picture there....
I have to admire the time and effort you guys are investing in the hobby. Are you ever going to be able to move that table or will it stay where it was built? It looks v. heavy and too big to get through a door!
The table will be easy to take apart, its only held together with 120mm bolts. What we would do in a smaller house I don't know, and remember we are going to build a second in the near future.
Now after several hours painting and drying I have 12 2X2 foot boards coated in PVA (for strength and protection) ready to go.
Whilst this was drying I set about testing how I a going to paint/texture the board sections.
I originally was just going to paint it just using Gloss paint (MIDDLE), however Silent_Smoke gave me the idea to use some poly filler to give some additional texture, (RIGHT) and I also decided to mix some sand/small pebbles in with the paint to see what result I got out (LEFT). First thing I learnt is that cheap Gloss means that I will have to use several coats.
After viewing the early results this morning I have decided that its poly filler all the way, so after grabbing a quick shower I'm off to coat the other 12 boards.....

Sweet! Progress. I'm looking forward to seeing this board under way.
I can't say that I'm a big fan of the pebbles in the polyfilla. I think it looks just fine without them.
My 40k Project Log - currently painting Crimson Fists and My (dodgy) modular CoD table project log.
On Games Workshop's Australian prices:
More progress has been made today. This morning I plastered the boards only to discover that 1 litre of polyfiller will only cover 6 boards. I will have to get some more at a later date. At least I have enough to create a 6ft x 4ft table.
After several hours drying I then applied the first coat of gloss paint.

So today has been a day for all of us to get on with some building/painting etc. and thats no exception for me. "Today I have been mostly building DEATHWATCH/STERNGUARD". I wanted these guys to stand out from the rest of the DAs 5th Company so I thought that Deathwatch would be fitting as they will mostly be fighting crunchy Tyranids or gooey DKoK! and to use a whole bunch of other wise spare bits they could all be in Mk6 legs, helmets & the pre-heresy breast plates. Im rather pleased with their converted melta-bolter combi weapons, I wanted them to have these after seeing Silentsmoke's Sternguard perform very well against Alex_H's Trygon the otherday...
Here is some pics:
Alex_H trying to make things difficult for me after his crushing deafeat earlier on Supreme commander...
Completed unit...
Second unit in progress...
a close up of their shiney guns...
They will both eventually get their very own drop pods as they worked rather well in the big game the other day!

The combi melta’s look the nuts![]()
So after a good 36 hours drying I felt that the 6 boards (out of 12) that I have textured and painted were dry enough to game upon. (Especially since Wulfen_Kind was home and wanted a quick 1,500 point game and I felt I would try a unusual army - No Carnifexs or Genstealers.

As you can see I hate gun lines.

The game was pretty much always going to be a draw as soon as I rolled Capture and Control. After the game, I felt impressed with the board, its certainly finally proving my theory that my army would look suitably evil swarming across a white background. However we both felt that it felt a little bit odd rolling dice. This I hope will change with a few coats of varnish.
Today I brought myself a skyshield from Cambridge GW after seeing the modified one in this months White Dwarf. I felt it would be a good centre piece for the board I am slowly beginning to construct (and it goes well with all the ideas I have in my head) Also the size is good for our HUGE table.
It also allowed me to finally use the city fight terrain I have had for a couple of months now.
First task was to collect all the bits I needed.
Then I began to clean up the city fight tiles and put together the Skyshield.
By the end of the evening I had done enough to begin to put sections of buildings together.
Whilst this was all going on Silentsmoke began to air brush his titan. But no doubt he will tell all on his private project log.
