    Re: Nordic's Skaven Army Plog

An Empire themed army sounds great! As you say, it will offer plenty of options for great conversions! Furthermore, as most of the Empire and Skaven range is available in plastic, converting models and swapping bits should be really easy (I can imagine a combination of a War Altar and Screaming Bell, with the Grey Seer in the ornate pullpit or even Stormvermin armed with greatswords)... Go for it!

As you're still looking for cobbled bases, check out my plog. I made custom cobbled bases for my Empire army and now offer the same bases for trade/sale. I have 12 different sizes available and they can be supplied in any number desired (and thus save you the trouble of making your own )... The plaster bases are very durable, extremely detailed and easy to paint. Shipping to Sweden shouldn't be a problem as I've already sent some to Australia... Hit me with a PM if you're interested or if you would like more information (available sizes and prices)...
Check out my Mordheim scenery! NOW! I mean... Please... Only if you want to of course...
Get your ale while it's still hot! And discover why Stirland should rule The Empire...

I don't know if I finished the Lustria one. It wasn't as good as the first one imo. It got a bit tedious when they were running back and forth in the jungle assaulting the tempel somewhere in the middle of the book.

That screaming bell combined with war altar would look pretty cool, I was thinking of maybe getting the Luminarch and convert it into a warp lightning cannon perharps. just a loose idea.
Heh, Stormvermin armed with greatswords would look good but that would be a really expensive unit to convert plus stormvermin can't use great weapons unfortunately.
I think I'll stick to making my own bases, but thanks for the offer anyway!

Gonna pick up some empire state troopers tomorrow (if my LGS has them) to get some feathers, I'm thinking of maybe get the empire general box too though I only want the big feathered hat, oh well I can use the other bits too I'm sure.

Some puffed arms for the general, I plan on adding a feathered hat to his helmet as well.

Added a piece of barding I had lying around to the rat ogre to use as a shoulderpad.

    First Clanrat ready for Dipping.

First Weaponteam ready for dipping as well.

Here's the first clanrat regiment with the cloth done. Since I took this pic i have done the fur.

    Here's the base painted.

You might be able to find bits on eBay if you don't want to buy a whole box. The barding shoulder pad's a clever idea!

I don't buy stuff off eBay, dunno why really. probably because I don't trust it, and I don't trust it because I don't know anything about it and I don't know anything about because I'm lazy. so I guess I don't really have any excuses not to use it other than I'm lazy.

So, I bought the Blood on the Reik book (really cool, if you like crazy artwork) and a Empire General Box, which I've been hacking away at today. And here's the fruit of todays labour. I made a warlord on bonebreaker. The bonebreaker is dressed up as a griffon. I'll add reins to it as well once all the green stuff has cured. It was too dark in my kitchen to take any decent closeups (my camera wouldn't focus). Hopefully you can see I have green stuffed a beak-on-a-string to it and the wings are also on leather strips. I had to make a new chestplate from green stuff because I didnt want to hack at the original chestplate.

In the blood on the Reik book there is talk of human skaven cultists. Humans who worship the Skaven! I think I will make some of those to use as slaves.

I hope you enjoy and C&C appreciated!

Awesome conversions! I have a bunch of plastic greatswords (just the arms and weapons) to trade should you be interested. Did you get a chance to check out my bases in my Stirland thread (the link is in my sig)? It would save you a lot of time

I have seen your bases, they look great and thanks for the offer but its not the look I'm going for. =)

Here's both the clanrat regiments painted and ready for dipping, once it arrives that is.

I really like the flaming rat on this warpfire thrower. The smoke could be improved though.

I'm satisfied with the front stone on this pack master and the osl on the forks as well.

The warlock. I am really happy with the green OSL on his backpack and weapon.

Here is all the painted ones. I have one weapon team, two rat ogres and the warlord left to paint, peace of cake! Feels good!
The wash will take awhile to arrive so I think I will buy another box IOB box to flesh out my army some more but first I will do the bases. I have been thinking of doing two skaven armies at the same time because I really like clan Mordkin also. would be awesome to convert some of those crypt horrors into rat ogres! and adding some of the pierced bones from the ghoul pack to the clanrats would look really cool I think. bah! I should finish this army first damnit!

    C&C appriciated!

I really like the blue and green combo on the Skaven! Bright colours work surprisingly well on them.

    Re: Nordic's Skaven Army Plog

I bought another quick dip, tried it. Looked horrible (I didn't take any pictures), now I know why you should DIP the minis and not brush it on- the dip dissolves the paint! I have de-ordered my quickshade and will go ahead and paint them in a normal fashion. Here's the result.

First unit done! Nice and bright! The basing is left to do ofcourse.

Here is the command group. Two small conversions, I added hats from the Empire state troops box to the champion and the musician. Hope you can see the little OSL I did on the musician's bell.

hope you like and C&C is welcome!

Good to see you sticking to your theme... I like the small Empire bits added to the models!

As for Empire cultists, have you considered using Flagellants as Slaves? Before I started my Empire army I thought about starting Skaven and one of my ideas was to use them (minus the flails but with added chains) as Slaves. Maybe add a Skaven Slavemaster with a whip to drive them on...

Looks good, they do remind me of the descriptions of the foppish tendencies exhibited by the Under-Altdorfers in "Grey Seer".

Thank you and Yes I have considered using the flagellants as slaves, I've actually ordered a pack of those and a pack of Free Company to use as cultists. I probably won't put them in chains though considering the are not slaves per se.

Exactly what I was going for! I was unsure whether it was Under-Altdorf or Under-somethingelse that was featured in the Grey seer novel. I read it when it was new so my mind is a little bit hazy about the details.

Since I have painted up one regiment I thought I'd treat myself with a character so I went with the Engineer. Great fun to paint and I really like the result! I'm especially proud of the sight on the warpmusket and the OSL overall.

Hope you like and C&C is welcome!

Looking very good there Nordic; that warplock engineer is a great model, and you've really done him justice. Interesting spin to make an Empire-themed rat army* as well - any plans for a steam tank conversion?

    * Obviously, despite their sartorial flair, they are naturally disadvantaged by not being able to have fearsome moustaches...or CAN they? +1000 style points if you make a ratman with a fake 'tache tied on with string :-P

Nice paint job on the Engineer! Personally if it was me doing this theme, I'd have been tempted to swap his pistol for an Imperial one!

Cultists! I got a hold of my Flagellants and Free company box. I also bought a Ghoul box. this combined with a state troops box is what i've done today. I have been looking at Blanche artwork for inspiration. I for one love his stuff! its very inspiring and it jogs my creativity and inspiration, the artwork I looked at for these skaven cultists came from the Blood on the Reik book, some of these conversions are attempts to make models of some of those illustrations.

From top left corner we have: The Butcher's son, it was the first one I did today. He's made from a plague monk body, a flagellant head and ghoul arms. the rat cage with giant rats is a old skeleton shield with some added iron wire, then we have Crooked cutlass, I simply swapped his torso for a Night Runner torso and bent his cutlass and dagger some. the bone that hangs from his belt is from the flagellants sprue. third one top right is a flagellant with an arm from the free company box. the bone on his forehead is from the ghoul box.

Middle row from the left is Bellman 1 (swedish pun intended) made from ghoul, flagellant and free company bits with a skaven bell for a hand. second one is Bellman 2, made from ghoul and flagellant bits with a added skaven bell for arm. then we have the second one i started with, hunchback, he has a night runner torso and free company arms and legs with some plasticard added that will be painted as wood once it comes to that. Head is from flagellants.

Bottom row from the left we have the brawler, head and bottle from state troopers, legs and torso from free company, arms from flagellants. Then comes the soldier with state trooper body, head and sword arm. his left arm is from the free company box. Then we have scarecrowguy, flagellant body, free company arms and zombie banner for arms, I really like this guy. And the last one is made from ghoul legs and arms, and more zombie banner bits and some flagellant bits and a old skelelton spear. This last fellow creeps me out a little.

Here they are all ranked up.

I will fill some gaps with green stuff and add fur cloaks to some of these. the last guy will get a belly but I intend to have some ribs showing.
