Adeptus Mechanicus re-opens his forge. Praise be the Omnissiah!

This will be my third attempt at a project log for my various hobby-projects. Considering all messages I received concerning the name of my last log and how confusing it was I took this into consideration when I now re-open my forge to the general public. I also, shamelessly, stole this design from a close friend of mine also active on this forum by the name of Sanjuro, which he was cool with btw, so if you are in the mood to gaze upon the grandeur of the Imperial Navy or the might of the Imperial Guard head over to his log right away. It's been said a thousand times before but it is always worth mentioning that I am a terribly slow painter, which means that this log won't be updated with progress each and every hour of the day. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze something in every week if I have something nice to show you. Oh, and do comment on painting, assembly or whatever. Even though I enjoy a kind remark or two as much as the next person I am also confident that I have still much to learn, so feel free to post whatever is on your mind concerning my projects.

With that out of the way, welcome fellow adepts to my forge.

    Currently in the Forge

This is where I list the projects that I am currently working on.

    40k

Bad Moons (Dead shooty with some pirate flavour.)

Blood Axes (Mechanized with a gruesome Imperial fetisch!)

    Evil Sunz (Vroom! Vroom!)

    Warhammer Fantasy

Wood Elves (Forest Spirit list, no elves in sight!)

    Battle Fleet Gothic

    Orks

    Forged & Ready For War

This is where I list armies that have been assembled, painted and are considered "finished" in the eyes of their creator (me).

I just "finished" this Nob for my Bad Moon army, a stout fellow with a big choppa. I know that big choppas are usually frowned upon since power klaws are so much more effective but I can't help it, big choppas looks to cool to not include! Anyway, Im sort of happy with how he turned out, I might have re-do the messy NMM on his shoulder plate. Im not a master of NMM tbh, but I like using greys instead of metals and I think it works rather well with my colorful and quirky Orks.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. I just assembled a whole lot of my Ork fleet for BFG and I fell in love with the Savage Gunships right away. I have no idea if they are all that great or not (ok I actually know their limited range makes them sort of bad...) but they look so cool. Barracudas in space, pretty much. Anyway, I have no idea on how to paint them yet. I know I want to stick with yelow, blacks and nmm-metallics but I don't quite know which bits should be colored what. Anyone got any pics or suggestions to help me out here I would appreciate it. Oh, a pic of three of the cute and coated lil'uns.

Finished my first test-model for my Ork fleet. It took way longer than I expected and it didn't end up as I had envisioned it but I think it turned out quite nice anyway. Any comments at all would be quite welcome.

Love the way those plasma engines burn brightly blue in the vacuum of space. Gonna be an honour to blast those escorts into smithereens.

Yeah thanks, I was really happy with how the plasma engines/turbines turned out. Pretty blue!

Thank you guys! Getting feedback is always heartwarming but when it comes from such skilled painters as yourselves I just can't help it but feel a bit proud of myself and my endavours.

Re: Adeptus Mechanicus re-opens his forge. Praise be the Omnissiah!

I just had to give you all a little sneak peek at what will be arriving to me shortly. A Blood Axe Warboss I commissioned everyones favourite Hortwerth to make. Reasonably cost, a bit like forgeworld and truly unique and fits the bill exactly right for my General Gromgutz. I have mixed feelings about painting this beauty since I do really want to paint it right away but Im afraid I won't do it justice. Oh well, I might just put it aside for a while (I actually do have my Bad Moons to finish first anyway) and get more painting experience! Anyway, look at me rambling about like a madmen. You wanted to see a Warboss with a Imperial fetisch so without further ado, let me present General Gromgutz and his Grot attendant Litgit.

That's a really nice sculpt! Looks like it will be a lot of fun to paint.

Really nice work on the ork nob, not sure about using NMM on them tho. I think you've done a great job on it but I just think that true metallics might be better suited to orks.
With lots of infantry models t's much quicker to paint too. Just my view tho, go with what feels right!

    Keep up the good work!

Yes, it is quite a beauty aint it? Hortwerth never ceases to amaze me with his sculpting/converting and he is also a really nice guy.

Yeah it takes a lot longer but I felt the need to be different, not only do I almost always prefer a bit of the over-the-top NMM even on models that should be a bit more gritty but I also think it suits bright Bad Moons just fine. It's a matter of taste I assume ^^

Re: Adeptus Mechanicus re-opens his forge. Praise be the Omnissiah!

Ok. Im going to go ahead and just say it. I dislike GW's Forest Spirit models. The Treeman looks like a twig-man version of a Tyranid and don't even get me started on the Treekin, they look horrible. GW really nailed the look of the Dryads, they look great, but the rest of the spirits looks really, really bad tbh. The easiest way around this is to use non-GW models of course and if I ever visit a tounry with this list and they won't let me enter, so be it. For the treeman Im using the Treewoman from Ultraforge Miniatures, a great piece that looks like a giant Dryad with a certain mother nature twist. For my Treekin I am going to use randomly monster sized nature golems and elementals, mainly from Rackham and Dark Reaper. But when it comes to the Wild Riders (which also looks like a bunch of retarded elves on horses screaming their lungs out) I had the idea to use the old-school Mounted Daemonettes. The old Daemonettes looked a lot like alluring Dryads and the steed looks more like some kind of spirit thingie than a horse tbh. Only problem is they do not have spears, would this be a problem you think if I informed the opponent what they are and what they are equiped with? Here is the first model I assembled while I am currently thinking about what to do.

I'd shave down the spiney bits on the back of the steed as they give it a very slaaneshi look. Add in some dryad and leafy bits though and it should look awesome. You could use some dryad arms on the demonette maybe?

Would be pretty nice if they could have spines (branches) growing out of their backs which could count as natural spears when charging.

Anyone know how I could make spines like that, or are there any miniatures with spines that I could use for a conversion?

Or maybe I should just lave them as they are...

Not sure about removing the spines as I sort of like them but yes, there will be Dryad bits added to the Daemonettes.

I'd recommend buying the Chaos spawn box. There are lots of spines that look exactly like the ones on the miniature you've shown us.

Re: Adeptus Mechanicus re-opens his forge. Praise be the Omnissiah!

Cheers Dezmord. Yeah those spines might work but Im not sure about the spine idea anymore. I went back and took a better look at the Mounted Daemonettes and they are really thin, would be rather hard to get some spines on there backs. So my second thought was, well lets make speartips in their hair that they can extend but Im not so sure if I could pull that off. So the question is what to do, should I leave them as is, try to get spears on them which will, in all honesty, probably look rather retarded considering the positioning of their hands (I am in no way a master converter/sculptor) or should I pursue this whole spine-thing? Last resort is to swallow the god-awful Wild Rider models by GW or look for another substitute. Thoughts on this?

Actually now I think about it, I've seen a few pretty nice wild rider dryad centaur conversions, with the horse body and then the top half of a dryad. Both being plastic this would probably be pretty simple to do!
