Dark Eldar Kabal

Hello there,

I just started workin on my long-time army of my dreams: the Dark Eldar

It's been some time since I got the idea to start a DE army. Last year I finished my IG (more or less) and was looking for a new army to build. So I had another look at my long time favorite. I bought the codex, some warriors, a raider and some wyches of ebay and just had a look at the dex. And tried to come up with a nice color scheme.
However I then got the news that there was no chance to get a new codex this year, so motivation dropped below zero. Then the new Guard-Dex was released and I started work on my Guard again. However here motivation was no thing of long duration.
Then I got a really good offer for a 3000+ points DE army. And the fire started burning.
I spend the last weeks with paintstripping, minor converting and also managed to get some things painted.

The unit that's closest to beeing finished is my Archon with Inccubi-Retinue and Drazahr.
Those guys are still wip. The white on the masks needs another coat, the eyes have to be painted and the metal parts need highlights. The armor is more or less the only finished part of the minis.

I'm looking for interesting ideas to convert the warriors, to make them look more up-to-date. Here on Warseer I think I had a look at most of the DE-threads, so not that much new there for me anymore. I allready bought the Dark Elf Corsair-Box to mix it with the normal warriors, I also started work on the raiders to get rid of the backspoiler. (I'm pretty much sure thats the part that will break of immediately.)
So, if anybody knows of a site with good conversions, just tell me.

i think that you should hard edge highlight the clothes.
and i think mixing in corsiar parts would be a really good idea, it would definatly make them look unique.

Excellent use of the Death Jester.

I support using DE Corsair bits - tends to work out pretty well in the transition to 40K.

Ok, first of all thanks for the positiv feedback.

I'll surely do some more highlight on the cloth. The green parts are highlighted pretty well. Perhaps one more layer of color. We'll see.

Now I got some pics of my first warriors. Those two squads were painted before the HQ. They are still fairly WiP. To do: eyes, skin highlights on the metal, the hair
Also I will give the purple another highlight to make it the same color as on the HQ. It's way to dark right now.



Here Pics of a Ravager and a Raider. Got rid of the backspoiler, as they make the kits so damn hard to transport and store.

Ok, finally did some work on another Unit. This will become a Raidersquad with Shredder and Splintercannon.

This unit is a combination of Corsairs torsi and head and DE legs and arms.



What do you say?

Next unit will be another squad based on corsair legs and DE torsi and heads, arms will be a mixture of corsair and DE arms

The Dark Elf bitz look really good together.
Not to keen on the color scheme however but that's just me.

Ok, did some more work, and used the remaining parts of the Corsairs.



I really like the combination of the Corsair-legs with their overknee-boots and the DE-female torsi. I think this has some nice look.

I need your help about modelling trophy racks:
I've seen some conversion with skulls added to the shoulderguars. But that does not look really good. That way the slim and elegant look of the DE would be lost and I don't like that a bit.

Allright, here I'm back again.

I was not as lazy in the last six months as you might think. I really did paint something, so here are the first pix:

So, they are not jet completely done, the facial detail still has to be done, the skin and the purple need some more highlights. I want to make the two darker Warrior squads lighter and the two brighter squads need a leviatan puple wash over their armour.

-8 Jetbikes

very cool DE. the conversions using Dark Elf parts aren't the most original but they are very well done. The Death Jester is an idea I am afraid you may have to consider stolen by myself!

I like the colour scheme, but I think the minis could use a bit more definition on both skin and armour. Or is that just the pictures?

First of all, thanks for the nice comments!

Well, I did my best, to take good pics, but mostly to represent the correct colors. On the last days the weather was rather bad and so I had no real daylight available.
So I workes a bit with photoshop to get the colors right.

But also the minis are only TTS, so no Golden Deamon standard here

A fully painted TTS army is something very nice to have indeed. and allows for games...

Just updated my Dark Eldar plog too if you wanna take a look. Wish I had the patience to paint Wyches. Horrible models to paint IMO. v nice when they are done (as yours show)

A cracking army painted to a decent standard. I love the Death Jester conversion - like Hadriel, you can consider it stolen by me!

The Dark Elf/Eldar conversions are funky; unoriginal but work well (hey, I've done it, who hasn't)

Your Wyches (Hagas) are nice too. I'll keep an eye on this log.

Ok, 10 months without a new post. Shame on me!


With the release of the new DE I got back to them and I want to finish this army finally.
However my motivation problems had their origin in the paint-scheme, which I did not really like and it was not as fast and easy to do as I might have wanted it.
Last weekend I was playing a game with my DE agains the eldar of a friend of mine. His army is also purple as a base color. So I asked him how he achieved the good look of his army. He is mixing some Mithril Silver into the Purple to give it a nice shine and then washes it with Leviathan Purple, done!

I just had to try this out. So I did a quick test on one of my old warriors. Pics have been taken just now, so Wendesday morning half past one, but hey! What do you say?

So, here is the first WiP-picture of my new Kabal-Warriors.
The new warriors really are awesome miniatures. It was really fun to asemble them.

I also started painting. Here is the pic:



Thats a purple mixture I made half a year ago, today I only added a nice amount of Mithril Silver. The blue parts are Hawk Turqouise, the loincloths will be highlighted to Bleached Bone.
As finish I will apply an even shade of Badad Black with my airbrush

I really like your Archon, it looks unusually calm and arrogant. The corsair Warriors are pretty cool, are you going to use them as Trueborn?

They seem a bit too doll-like with the sheen. Perhaps a grey wash on them, to add a cool, contrasting color that might tone them down a bit?
