Not true, there are lots of startups that are producing in plastic. Yeah, it ain't cheap, but thats what a loan is for![]()

I cant wait to see this thing finished how are you planning on casting this all those details and stuff it will be a fortune!

Waddya mean synapse? like companies that are doing this kind of stuff? Check out wargames factory, also the Perry Bros. are doing more and more stuff in plastic. Also check out Victrix. Those are just off the top of my head, I'm pretty sure there are several more.
Pictures will be forthcoming, unfortunately I havent had a chance to start on the turret, due to the now obscene size of the file, performing any sort of updates/operations on it takes 5-10 minutes + everytime I perform one, so progress has been much slower than I care to admit.
no i meant places that sell injection moulding stuff, or somewhere i can read up more about the process and what costs are involved (not that i expect it t be cheap or economical)

Yeah, I plan on modding it to be configured as a Bombard or as a Thunderer/Destroyer somewhere down the line. But before I do that, I'm gonna make a chimera chassis and all of its derivatives. I'm thinking a hybrid of a WW2 German SDKFZ and a USMC LAV.
Anyway, I was hoping to have more to show to you, but ya'll have been so patient so far, you deserved another look, even if I dont have anything to show for a turret. Unfortunately school has hit me like a 600 lb. gorilla so my available time has decreased dramatically, but nonetheless I will press on. Also limiting my ability to work on it is that my laptop battery is dead, as is the cooling fan, and a bunch of other things, so I have to get that fixed :-/
Keep in mind that this is what it looks like now. I'm increasing the spacing between plate edges and rivets and in general making the detailing more clearly defined so that it gets manufactured correctly. I realized that even though the prototypers can produce details that miniscule, doesn't mean that I should make them that miniscule, because people like me who use a lot of layering in their painting are going to have a really tough time preserving the detail without trying a lot of new techniques. Also note I've redone the venting to make it look more reasonable.

Man I am loving the deatail you have included in this model. I can't weait to see the finished project
cant wait to see it finished

im not too keen on the front of that (though seeing a finished model is very different to just seeing a picture of it), though the back is gorgeous. i love it! on the whole i think its a nice design, and am looking forward to seeing the turret in place.
any idea if the final thing will be resin or plastic![]()
At a guess on the number of sprues and size of tank, you're going to need at least fifty thousand pounds to have this tank done in plastic, and that's with a low quality mould that will wear out eventually, not a full quality steel mould.

Oh and being as you haven't designed this model specifically for plastic production, the number of undercuts is truly huge... and plastic production moulds can't have *any* undercuts at all if you want the sprues to come out of the moulding press properly.
So basically, plastic is a total non-starter for this model, you're going to need to make it in resin, either yourself or by contracting someone else to do it.

apart from the prohibitive cost i dont really see any undercuts. though of course that would be dictated by the number of parts in the set
Even if you cut the kit up into really tiny chunks, about a third of those rivets are still going to stick in the mould...
...and if you have a more sensible set of components using larger panels, the number of offending rivets rises dramatically.
And there are plenty of offending concaves too, like the indents on the engine exhausts... try to inject a piece with angled indents like that into a plastic moulding tool, and you won't get it back without literally tearing it out. The same problem appears on the fuel barrels too.
It's not even nebulously practical to cast this model in plastic without a heavy re-working of the design with a mind to making every component undercut-free.
On the other hand, you could cast it in resin very easily, in half a dozen large chunks.

yeah, the only ones i found in my quick skimming of the pic are the ones on the fuel barrels and the exhausts. and GW almost always has kits with such details. like you said, the tank would need a redisgn to take those into account, but i dont understand how rivets are undercuts, unless you mean casting a panel diagonally, which means the rivets on that side might ahve to be more oval (like those on the chimera front hull, iirc)
In order to make it practical to cast in plastic (ie, not have a 400 component tank), many panels must be cast, at an angle, already attached to other panels.
GW puts the rivets on these panels sloped at an angle in order to cast in plastic, but here all the rivets are sticking out perpendicular to their surfaces, so any panel cast at an angle (which is nessesary unless you like 400 piece tanks that collapse under their own weight all the time because they have no rigidity of structure) will stick in the plastic moulding tool.
The work is amazing here as usual.
Hay there, just posting to get subscribed, and let youse know what an awesome concept you have there![]()

Out interest, is that Pro Desktop I see before me? I once recreated a Baneblade in that as an exercise. Really awesome stuff!
