Whoa $100.40 (Canadian), that seems like a lot. That puts me in an awkward position, seeing as I already have a boss on a wyvern. At the same time, Azhag is still AZHAG!!!

I love the model, but if it breaks into $ 100.00 territory they have lost their minds.

C$99.00 and US$82.50 if that product code holds true.

EDIT - Here's the cover of September's White Dwarf and the blurb for the "Waaagh! Azhag" contents for no real reason, as there's nothing we didn't already know (in fact the text is just the same from the back of August's White Dwarf) but I just like to post pics!!

"Azhag the Slaughterer is a name that inspires terror throughout the land, for his campaigns of destruction brought the eastern provinces of the Empire to the brink of ruin. And now he's back, ready to unleash his reign of violence upon the Old World once again."

Are we sure that isn't just a place holder image? It's from the 6th edition of WFB and was a WD cover back then too.

It's not a generic "White Dwarf" placeholder image if that's what you mean. Every pic GW have put up on their "Next Month" page has gone on to be the cover of the magazine itself. The "Alt Cover" is being discussed HERE as supposedly the 'mystery release' has been spruiked as being on the cover of September's White Dwarf for a while now. So we might get two different covers for White Dwarf, or this Orcs one might indeed just be the one GW will use for all promo shots until the mystery release is revealed.

EDIT - Or that 'mystery release' cover could just be an in-store promotion only and we are indeed gettin' Orcs.

EDIT #2 - You sure that was a WD cover back then Hellebore? I've checked UK/Oz WD's 200 thru 325 and not seen it.

Aren't the new WD's supposed to be filled with screaming headlines and logo's these days?

It looks like an old WD in the age of quality, with only the name and the artwork.

Re: New Azhag the Slaughterer model - release date

I read through this thread and never did see "the problem" with this sculpt. I have been casting for about a year now and would have no problem producing this cast. My only thought would be if it was made into a plastic frame for injection molding.

If it's in the $100 range it's due to the size and A) either metal= expense of metal, or B) resin= time and complexity of "good" resin casts.

    Anyone care to explain???

Think they'd cast it in plastic? They've got the technology to do it. BTW how much is tin going for nowadays? It'd have to be fairly high to warrant a $100.00 model.

Re: New Azhag the Slaughterer model - release date

It's price will have nothing to do with what it costs to make. If it did we'd all be jumping for joy. It will be compared to miniatures of similar size within the warhammer range and then they'll jack the price up becasue its metal.

I have no problem paying say £50 for this, maybe even a bit more. What annoys me is that i'm gonna have to convert the rider before its any good. I just cant see the logic of putting that aweful rider on that amazing wyvern. The mount is of a quality not seen since the great spined dragon, shouldnt the rider be of equal quality? How long would it have taken Brian Nelson to sculpt one Orc?

GW please keep your second rate sculptors away from the impressive/important stuff. Such things are better left to the big boys.

    Hang on a mint.

Alex Hedstrom is hardly second rate.

He absolutely spanked the Chaos Marauder Horsemen recently and its not like he can't sculpt an Orc either. The "Animosity Orcs" are a fantastic sculpt, full of character, full of movement, full of detail. Orcs don't get to look any better.

Brian Nelson is a talented chap and one of my faves. I love Brains Gribbly Ors and they completely re-established what an Orc was in Warhammer but the strength in depth of the sculpting team now is such that almost any of them could pick up and carry on where the last guy left off and maintain the same 'look'. (Especially when they are working off the same dollies). Look at all the recent Orks released for 40K. Seb Perbet did most of those not Brian.

Re: New Azhag the Slaughterer model - release date

I find it amusing that during 5th edition, Azagh was about the only serious looking orc lord mini, and he's probably the most silly looking one now

Re: New Azhag the Slaughterer model - release date

Obviously second rate is an exaggeration. All i'm saying is that i dont think anyone could honestly say that the rider is good enough to be sat on that wyvern. The two dont even have any synergy, what with Azhag facing the corner of the base meaning he'll look kinda lame on the table. It wouldnt surprise me if Azhag was added as an afterthought.

Im not saying i could do a better job but this is a pretty special mini that they had a lot of time to work on.
