That makes me want to see a play on the "Tale of Four Gamers" style: four gamers each get X pounds/euros/dollars per month to spend, but two of them can only buy GW products, the other two can only buy from other manufacturers or scratchbuild. See what armies they end up with after a certain number of months

It looks to me that the price of the mangler and the ogre characters, etc which are already well above and beyond the initial wave of finecast which was already at a price rise, is more than just another hidden price rise.

This looks like it is GW passing on their cost to us. It looks like, Finecast must have lost them a ton of money in returns and unsold, unsellable miscasts. So who pays for it?

The consumers, with more price rises.

You are forgetting that it has been publically stated that Failcast minis cost more the manufacture than metal ones, so yes the cost is being passed on.

    Passed on Mute.

For the first time in a long while GW pricing on a product has actually enticed me in. I think the new Dark Eldar/Marine/High Elf and Skaven big boxes offer a pretty good deal, at least in a modern context. But the Mangler? No chance.

Well, licensing is a quick, risk free money maker - I assume it's the 40K computer games and FFG sales.

Hang on a minute. I thought they were switching because metal prices were getting too high?

So... GW replaced metal models with something even more expensive and passed the costs onto us?

I suppose its easier to control your own production costs than the price of metal. In time they wil come down and GW will be quids in!

Fantastic news for shareholders! Bad news for Consumers

If you are both then i guess you are confused

The material they use is most likely cheaper than metal. Probably a lot.
The casting process is more expensive, though.
Overall I have no doubt that producing finecast minis is less expensive than producing metal minis, though. One part of the cost being higher is a good enough excuse for GW to increase prices, though (even when the oerall cost is down).

The whol;e thing is an excercise in risk and cost management then and the consumer takes all the downsides.

    Higher prices
    Poorer quality
    Less durability

    What a cunning stunt!

Could this be because 2/3 of Finecast minis are returned as faulty, and therefore FC models have to cost 3 times as much as they really do?

No, I believe that statement was made at the time of release, so before any returns. And I doubt they planned to have as many returns.

    Must be.

    Doing well though..

Games Workshop: “We are forecasting H1 PBT of £9m vs £6.7m last year, helped by the boost to royalty income. We are not changing our forecast at this stage, given the important Christmas period is still to come. However, this does make us more confident that full year forecasts will be exceeded,” - Peel Hunt.

I think I almost choked when I saw the prices for today's finecast re-issues. 390 SEK/£30 for the Doombull and 600 SEK/£49 for the decidedly meh Ringwraiths?

    Crazy crazy crazy crazy.

Is that €49 for the 9 Ringwraiths or for a blister of one? Is it sad that I have to ask this as a serious question?

Since when have they needed an excuse?

I think the bit I found really disturbing was the recent wraith and banshee releases. Here (UK), they were charging £8 each. In other words, metal prices for plastic models.

I bought the metal ringwraith box set a few weeks ago for $60 USD. Now they turn them into finecast and add $14 to the bill! Glad I got the metal ones...

For the nine (although it'd be somewhere about €60, I guess), so I guess it's really not that much more per model than the price for the five-man metal/finecast boxes. Except that the Ringwraiths are really samey and boring and probably a bit smaller as well.

The new Mangler quig is $96AUD. Haha no way in hell. They should have produced a cheap model for a cheap unit. That costs more than a couple of the dragon kits do for god's sake!
