Even in the UK, and even on my salary (20k +) the price for Blood Knights is insane. And people wonder why I don't want to support a Fantasy Army!

That's just a blood knights thing. Poor planning by GW making an all metal cavalry kit and then making it an all FC cavalry kit. All the other cav in fantasy is 35 US dollars and under.

The Centigors are metal too, although not quite as bulky. (And the old mounted Dæmonettes.) They were never quite as outrageously priced as the Blood Knights. But then I think GW went through a phase, as the mounted Empire special characters have an insane price tag too. Helborg is gorgeous, but at that price…

I suspect that GW might do new plastic centigors since they didn't FC them with the December releases. If they do go FC then it'll be a blood knights and Centigors thing. Most of the other pre-plastic cav were hybrid kits and fairly expensive too (40-50 US dollars iirc) like the Chaos Knights, Marauders, Cold Ones, and dragon princes but they all got completely new plastic kits when their model lines received new models at reasonable prices.

I tend to lump together the unique single characters (mounted or not) as their own category. Golgfag, who's a post-FC character, is the same price as Helborg.

I can honestly say that I have never seen a unit of the official Blood Knight models on the tabletop. Personally, I use LotR Morghul Knights, and I know a lot of people who use other WFB plastic cavalry (with various ammounts of conversion), but I don't know anyone in my gaming group who bought BK at the *metal* prices, let alone fineca$t...

That is an interesting reflection Rodmillard. In our gaming group too, there are 3 players with VC armies and none of them have ever bought the official Bloodknights figures. And that's in a group who are fortunate enough to be mostly be earning in the 40K+ wages bracket! No one likes to be ripped off, no matter how much they earn.

I know a single person who bought the blood knight models. He worked for GW when he purchased them and only did so because of the gigantic discount.

    Out of ~10 VC players.

On the matter of blood knights - I think it is okay if GW thinks they can get away with charging a premium that people are willing to pay for a product that they deem worth the said price tag. But the truth is people don't...

Maybe GW is thinking that because they are moving to resin finecrap they can reliably get away with bumping up the cost in level with FW kits.

You guys should try living in Norway. GW stores, of which there are very few, sell items for almost double what you would pay in other countres. Toy stores who stock GW, sell for even more.

But isnt the majority of stuff double or even triple the cost of what it is in other countries too? I remember nearly feinting from a bar bill on a holiday once.

I was looking at my old WD's with Vamp stuff and the fell bats were originally 9 US dollars for 2. A few years later in the 2004 catalog, 9 dollars for 2. Right before the FC change, 17.25 for two. And now after FC 49.50 for 3. I really wonder if there's a person making these changes or if GW found him redundant and just has a computer doing it now.

Not wrong at all. At least in my book, as they were the basis for my Blood Knights. All I did was a little trimming, here and there, and adding more appropriate shields (from Grave Guards) from a Bitz company.

My advice, don.t go there. You have a liquor specialist in every village. Bars are for tourists, same as airport taxis

Out of curiosity I marked the two BK boxes they had out at a local GW with a tiny dot on wrapping, back when they were released.
They shipped the very same boxes back when all metal was recalled.

I sold one box of BK's when I worked at GW, and it was the manager of the store who bought them.

When I used to dust the store down I would look at them up in the corner there, they are gorgious models, but the price....wow. Even with the discount it was still like humm, naaa.

In other words, their price per model has more than tripled in just 8 years. For fairly crappy models to begin with. And the only difference is now they come with extra bubbles. There is NO ONE that can defend that decision.

Things like the collectors edition rulebooks, Imperial Armour, Tamurkhan etc. Pieces of coherent visual and editorial art.

I'm not saying this is totally the case now, but it is becoming more and more so. Books in general may go down the drain, but those that remain will be more highly produced and tangibly exciting as objects. I don't know whether this is the reason GW is going to the new higher production format, but even if it's not it's a winning idea and worth the extra investment. I would just prefer it was 25 bucks on top of 25 bucks, not 55. As Hellebore mentions, we can get the Tamurkhan book for the same price, and god almighty is that a good example of everything described above.

The core books for Dungeons and Dragons 4E are $35 USD. Full color, hardback, and sit at around 300 pages.

The Vampire Counts book is $41.25 USD. Full color, hardback, and with (I am sure) less than half the page count.
