We call price rises ~20%, but never have prices been raised by 20%, exactly, all across the board.

The price rise happens in different ways. Normally, box sets are rounded up, a couple of pound added on, etc. Paints might go up to £2.50 or £2.75... They may stay exactly the same. Elite infantry boxes in 40k, £20.50 at the moment... Might stay the same, might go up to £22, who knows?

So yes, anyone saying that prices wont be risen by 20% across the board is right. But the effect is pretty much the same. Prices will be about 10-20% higher if you buy the same stuff in 2 months time.

Re: Games Workshop Pricing Feedback Thread

My earlier comment was regarding a 20% rise accross the board btw - I'm well aware of the various rises for individual models/ranges/FC!

Looking at those SM FC price changes, it's hard to see how each one of those models is not now effectively 'dead'. They have gone from army components to 'serious collectors only' prices. Who honestly thinks that even little Timmy's higher-than-average earning parents are going to fork out £13 for the Termy Chaplain model? I don't care if you only need one Chaplain in Terminator armour (if at all), it in no way justifies or excuses such a price. Anyone who is serious about building even a remotely large SM army will probably want one, if only as an option, whether or not they also want one in power armour. That sort of price will force a lot of people to choose one or the other and GW will lose another sale. GW need to address the real reasons for their bonkers prices and stop hiding behind the usual wall of insulting excuses. It's only going to harm them in the long run and then who will they have to blame?

What's disturbing is seeing some posting about how the prices are "actually pretty reasonable/good/etc".

How anyone can say that £9/£11 for a bunch of tactical marine chapter-specific bits is "reasonable" is beyond me. The full 10-man tactical marine box cost that when it came out!

They were £15 at Gamesday when they were released.
And nobody was buying them at that price either...

It isn't reasonable when you consider what you are getting - very little.

That said, a tenner is not an awful lot of money today - I spend more than that every other day on smokes

That's doesn't justify the cost though.

Were they? I thought they were released around £25/30 with the new/current space marine codex? (2008)

    Tigurius - £10.25 ... £11 ... +7%
    Chaplain Cassius - £8.20 ... £11 ... +34%

    Sergeant Telion - £8.20 ... £9.50 ... +21%
    Pedro Kantor - £8.20 ... £11 ... +34%

    Masters of the Chapter - £20.50 ... £20.50 ... no change!
    Veterans - £23.50 ... £25.50 ... +9%
    Terminator Captain - £10.25 ... £11 ... +7%

The percentages of the price rise are based on the original price. Rounded up or down as needed. Across the products listed, the price rise averages to +17%, with some disgusting exceptions I must add.
    (
    Some additions to this list:

    Sergeant Chronus- £8.20 ... £11.00 ... +34%
    Space Marine Techmarine - £12.30 ... £13 ... +6% (This model was £8 when I first bought it in 2005)
    Legion of the Damned Squad - £20.50 ... £25.50 ... +24%
Legion of the Damned Legionnaires - £10.25 for two ... £20.50 for four ... No change, larger required outlay
    Damned Sergeant/Heavy/Special - £8.20 ... £9.50 ... +16% (corrected)
Tyrannic War Veterans - £10.75 for two ... £20.50 for four ... -5% (but larger required outlay)
    Crimson Fists Shoulder Pads - £6.65 ... £6.00 ... -10%
    Crimson Fists Command Squad Upgrade - £6.65 ... £8.00 ... +20%
    Crimson Fists Tactical Squad Upgrade - £7.70 ... £9.00 ... +17%
    Crimson Fists Assault Squad Upgrade - £8.70 ... £9.00 ... +3%

I saw the writing on the wall and I'm really glad I got as many Space Marine metals as I did before this happened. Not just because of the price rise (which is large enough as it is, despite a couple of items coming down somewhat in price) but because I really detest Finecast. I've got enough metals now to keep me going for a very long time.

Just glancing at them some of those % increases are wrong - how is a £1.30 increase a 21% rise on £8.20. 21% of £8.20 is £1.72. Are any accurate?

Where do you see £8.40 and 21%?

I checked the numbers again and I did make a mistake with the Damned models - now corrected to 16%.

I concur 100% with this sentiment.

The day GW finally starts to go down is the day (well close to the day) that one of two things will happen: 1. Heads roll in corporate, massive downsizing, a price reduction (a sale *gasp*), the end result being a new (read: not stupid) business model is adopted and we will all benefit. 2. A completely different company grabs the reigns in some kind of buyout, and once again, we all benefit.

I'm not sure we'll benefit from number 2. I really don't want to see 40K turned into a collectable HeroClix style game...

I mean... I actually agree with you. A buyout followed by a complete replacement of the managment would probably be a good thing. But it might also be extremely bad news...

    Corrected

Just from a glance telion, Librarian+Chaplain. A 21% increase would make the new price £9.92

I didn't post that first list (I was replying to Darnok), hence I can't correct any of it.

Yes, but with Battletech true fans kept the spirit alive, and now Battletech is still going on while MechWarrior Dark Age... not so much.

The most I've seen people do with them is run N-scale Battletech games. It's driven up the price of 1/144 and 1/200 Macross, Dougram, and Crusher Joe kits up quite a bit, I tell you...

It will be interesting to see if NZ/Aus get the same percentage increases as has been mentioned so far. GW are close to pricing themselves out here in NZ, the city I live in services an immediate region of over half a million and we now have 2 stores where we can buy GW product, all other stockists have either closed down or stopped stocking.

The funny thing is it's currently the same price, sometimes cheaper, to buy FW instead of GW.

I’m aware of the work done to keep Battletech alive (got a friend who’s a big fan).

What I never really understood though, is why the owners of the IP didn’t step in to stop it.

That, I think, is what would happen to Games Workshop’s IP if it was ever sold to another company. There’s simply too much money running on it right now to allow fans to take over.

Me, personally? I would love to see it taken over by die-hard fans who still remember that great game and universe it used to be. I just can’t see it being allowed to happen anytime soon...

The price of a packet of bases alone is like being splashed in the face.

Ive (initially my parents) bought GW products since the days of heroquest and space crusade, 19+ years-seeing the price of the same miniature (but now in finecast) that I got in 1993 selling at triple the price last time I looked (assault cannon wolfguard termie- before finecast) just completely turns me away, I cant pay thirty bucks for one plastic miniature (dwarf std bearer,$28 last december) I just cannot do it.

Re: Games Workshop Pricing Feedback Thread

I bought the new empire warrior priest at the weekend for £10, my first FC figure. I wanted this figure for my AD&D character so I will get a lot of use out of it. Having read people really moaning about FC I figured that as with a lot of complaints on the internet it was exaggerated and that after a year they would have sorted it out. At first glance the figure looked fine (in blister) but as I started to clean it up I noticed the mould must have slipped by at least 2mm. As I looked closer the figure was a mess, tip of the nose missing, badly cast book and skull to the rear of the miniature. I don't mind paying more for a better product but paying more for something worse is unacceptable. I want the terminator captain and the terminator chaplain but at £13 for one miniature I just can't bring myself to part with that cash for that quality of figure. I think it is quite telling that the price of these two figure have increased significantly on ebay in the past few days. To me a £10 is 30mins at work, the money isn't an issue. I actually feel insulted that they expect me to pay more that level of quality.

Galfinnan, did you return the Empire Warrior Priest for a refund? Hint, if you haven't returned it for a refund you're telling GW "I really like Finecast and the price for that quality is acceptable to me."
