Oh heck, I wasn't saying someone should actually buy the GW Bat Swarms - I was just pointing out that they were more stupidly-priced than Nurglings (which are so cute that they're almost worth it).

I believe the Flamers did decrease in price - and they're in a better material, now.

Flamers did decrease, they're now £12.50.

The Nurglings aren't bad - with a little bit of green stuff work to cover up gaps etc, you can stretch the pack out to 6 bases (one "pyramid" of Nurglings and several single/doubles dotted on the base to fill it out).

And they're scheduled to be released in their "Bones" white plastic. Unlike finecast, when Reaper changes something to plastic, the price is halved (or goes even lower).
Nice alternative. Thanks for posting that.

Re: Games Workshop Pricing Feedback Thread

Last night I was working on a box of Dark Eldar Incubi that I bought last summer. The price tag was still on the box... $35.50. Realizing it was an 'old' price, I decided to play a little game. I thought I'd try and guess what the price is now. I made a SWAG and settled on $39.25. It seemed to be in the ballpark of what GW would do with an annual price hike, and my guess ended on the odd quarter dollar mark. Lo and behold, I looked it up on the GW site and saw just how far off my guess was. This same box of 5 models that cost $35.50 last fall now lists at $41.25.

What is that, a 16% increase? Sheesh. It's just another year... nothing really special about this year vs last year and GW just arbitrarily ups the price over 15%. And we all know this happens year after year after year. How can it go on like this?

I know this is not new information. But it just struck me in that moment. I'm sitting there working on a kit that I already perceived as being way overpriced for the shodily crafted 'Finecast' models contained therein. And when I saw the new price of $41.25, it just made me shake my head in disgust. It really does disgust me. Combined with the move to Finecast, I'm pretty much at the end of the road when it comes to buying GW stuff.

I just think these prices are just insane and I cannot understand why people choose to pay these ridiculous amounts. But I guess GW's sales indicate otherwise. As long as product continues to move, they will continue to 'reward' their customers with higher and higher prices.

Incubi didnt go up in the UK. Are you sure you didnt accidentally switch to Australia/Canada by mistake?

Pretty sure they did go up in price, probably when switched to Finecast.
When they were released in November 2010 they were 23,50€ for a box of five, now they are 33€.
The UK price must have risen as well.

Yes they did - from £23 to £24. Fortunately only a 4.35% rise this year.

So what is the purpose of this thread? Has any conclusion been reached after 8500 posts?

    GW is expensive
Prices go up on a regular basis
The save money on using cheaper materials but charge more
They either do not read this thread or currently do not care.
There revenues are still higher this year than last.

So is there any point to this thread any more than to keep the same points off everyother thread?

I had a look at the prices of LOTR stuff today and some of it is insane, $139NZ for a finecast Drake, $78NZ for command groups of 4 infantry, $41 for infantry (4), Gandalf on cart $85NZ. Need I go on. This stuff is 3 -4 times what most other companies would charge for the same.

Due to increased prices. Their sales decrease year on year, partially driven by the aforementioned prices. Don't take their financial statements at face value, because deceiving those who read them is precisely the objective. No company can lie on them, yet no company would admit they were struggling either, so the information is presented in a misleading manner.

As for this thread, yes, it is a place for the (ever-increasing) GW dissenters to voice their concerns such that other threads are not host to such commentary.

Think you just answered your own question, or at least gave it one reasonable answer

After all, people (myself included) clearly feel very strongly about this, and will post about it. I'd rather have that consolidated into one devoted thread than derailing every other one.

I think I know a little about FInancials. Both sales and units are up. This not a company in trouble in the neat future

In the near future, no. In the next 10 or so years? I wouldn't be so sure.

There's also no need to be patronising. While I don't know a lot about the subject, I have read summaries of GW's financial statements by those that do, and all of them reach the same conclusion: GW are fine in the short term, but increasing prices and falling sales are slowly killing them.

A very little by the sounds of it. Unit sales may be up (see the paints part of the 2012 financials thread) but actual sales (stripping out the 53rd week, increased royalty revenue, the absolute minimum of £2.75m in paint sales [in April alone], the annual price hike and the huge increases in FW/BL profits) show the "core business" is at best static and at worst following the trend of the last few years of haemorraging sales.

Haha wouldn't have gone to the Aus price by mistake, in Aus 5 incubi are now $63!

The worst of the new LOTR stuff IMO is the giant eagle being $72AU. Its pretty much same size as a High Elf giant eagle, which is $44. Seriously??

tiger g is right to a degree. This entire thread has no real purpose, it is just a place to vent and keep the discussion away from everywhere else on the board. Maybe instead of 8000 posts in here, we should send 8000 emails of complaint to GW directly and let them know.

My gaming group is really starting to move away from GW now, its a shame but prices and overall policy and direction just really aren't appealing anymore. I'm looking forward to Zmobicide in the next few weeks, and Sedition Wars in November which I have massive hopes for as a great new sci-fi universe and game. I'm pretty sure if GW did change completely, we would come back, but not in its current direction.

you know sometimes people need to vent off steam, even if there's no point or if it's worthless. I think this thread is here for that.
But I think it's also a testimony and a reminder of how far and wrong GW has gone lately. You can keep track of old prices as well (when people post them), compare and then decide what to do (that's something that could be done, a track list of every product's price and the subsequent increases).

I myself restrain from buying products from GW. I'm lucky enough to have started more than 15 years ago, and have collected a lot of models, enough to keep me busy for a long time (I'm a slow builder/painter). I own 1 fantasy army and two 40K. For now I've stopped 40K (I haven't bought any of the new necron kits for instance, partly because of the prices and partly because of finecast), and if the prices were lower maybe I would buy stuff knowing that I wouldn't build and paint them before a long time.

I'm focusing on my O&G army for the moment, I bought some of the new plastic kits (river trolls, savage orcs, boarboyz) but in the meantime I bought on ebay more than 60 models (oop black orcs, savage orcs and spider riders). I also pledged more than $100 in the mantic kickstarter last june, and I'm not even playing their game. I just wanted to help them develop, and of course it would get me some goodies (ogres, trolls, rulebook, vampire).

Anyway, money is not an issue for me, thank god, but GW insane pricing policy and finecast are strongly refraining me from buying GW's products, and here I am putting money in stuff I'm not even interested in (maybe when I read the rules I'll give it a go)
