    Magnetised Valkyrie - Pictures Inside!

    Hey all,

I already posted this in my project log but seeing the interest in my other magnetisation threads I figured I would post it here too for people to see.

So I picked up one of the new plastic Valkyrie kits the other day and man is it a sweet model, and big too!

I set about building it and wanted to paint the insides so I built it so that the top could be removed for painting. Then I thought, why not have it so that it could be removed even after painting? So I decided to magnetise the whole thing as well!

I magnetised the under wing weapons so they could be swapped between the Rocket Pods or Missiles, I also plan to make some twin Lascannons so I can change it to a Vendetta but I need to get some Lascannons first. (Feel free to PM me if you have some for trade btw!)

If you look at the first picture you can see the magnets that I glued on a piece of sprue inside the Lascannon/Multilaser fire point, I did the same on both sides so that I can put another Lascannon on the right side to make a twin linked hull mounted one.

On the next picture you can see the magnets on the rocket/missile racks, pretty simple one to do.

Here you can see the magnets that hold the top in place as well as a couple that are in the loading ramp that keep it closed. I plan to paint the latter as loading lights so they won't stand out as much.

After I posted it up here mcflurry brought up the good point that I could take some nice interior pictures if I magnetised the Heavy Bolters as well so I thought why not. I plan to make some control consoles or the like to go in place of the Heavy Bolters when they are not being used, so that the arms don't look out of place:

I also decided to magnetize the cockpit cover by putting a magnet in both the front and the back support sections and then glueing both sections together. Then magnets were placed in the back of the cockpit (In fact it is in the removable roof section) and in the nose section.

Finally here is a picture of the ship with two different weapon load outs:

I am going to do at least another one of these so if people are interested I could make a tutorial to go with my other magnetising ones.

    The usual excellent work.

Thanks for the kind words so far guys,

@ mcflurry - I decided to take your suggestion and do it so now if you check the first post I have the Heavy Bolters magnetised! I have run out of magnets though so I only have one magnetised at the moment. The other will have to wait until my order arrives.

@ starlight - I thought you would like it starlight. I have a few other IG magnetised things done at the moment but I wanted to wait until I finished them before showing, be sure to keep an eye out though as I will post them up soon!

Very nice. I also magnetised my Valkyrie last week but not as extensively as you did. For the under-wing weapons I used two magnets to keep the weapons from changing angles.

Magnetising the roof is a nifty touch and an adept painter like you will make it a worthwile addition. Dang, now I feel that I might should have done that too.

I have to admit that your solution for twin-linked Lascannons on the sides of the hull is more nifty than mine. One lascannon on each side doesn't only look better but also makes more sense. In a way. They look a little different but nobody will really notice.

Magnetising the Heavy bolters might have been a bit much. The idea with the control consoles is nice but really cuts back on passanger space.

Looking forward to seeing that one painted. Have fun.

I love magnets. They're so addictive! great job. I'm really impressed with the roof.

@sigur - Thanks sigur, I considered putting two magnets on the under-wing weapons but I didn't have enough left so I decided to use only one. The way I got around the turning weapons problem was by leaving the thin "fin" on the missiles and pods that slots in the holster under the wing and prevents them from turning. As for the lascannons, I saw a few people do it your way and while I think it looks good I just fancied trying something different. You are right though, mine are slightly different but I don't think you can really see it that much, plus as they are magnetised I can always make another one if it annoys me!

@CEO Kasen, Bellygrub - Thanks guys! Glad you like.

@Matt D - There is a whole thread on it here, but I get mine from here.

I just got my magnet order through so I magnetised the other Heavy Bolter and the cockpit cover. I have added pictures of the cockpit cover and the new modifications to the first post, let me know what you think!
