Once again, I've been practicing painting only with washes and I've gotten pretty good with it. I'm doing some cadians for a friend and I feel I've nailed it. The fatigues are gryphone sepia, the armor is thraka green and devlan mud mixed, the flesh is orgryn flesh, the flock is devlan mud, and the black and white is just that...chaos black and skull white.
It goes so fast and I can do about a whole squad in just one sitting.

Looks good! What did you use as basecoat under the washes?
The green looks like something I could use for Wood Elf cloaks.
wow these look great. could you give a step by step on how you achieved the look? I am painting cadians and would love to use whatever method you did.

No base color. Just assemble the mini, glue sand to the base, prime white, black wash the entire mini (including the sand), very very very lightly dry brush white to soften/lighten things up, apply washes.
Essentially, you are gray-scaling the mini from head to toe. This takes care of all your base, shade, and highlight. Then, you just stain in the colors with washes.
I'll try to put together a step-by-step process with pictures.

That's a good trick, I'll be stealing that.
I've been painting with just washes for months now. My LOTR Orcs & Goblins are over a grey basecoat and my Raptors Legion are over white. You can check it out on my blog if you care.

Looks pretty good, and if it's that quick then wahay! You could have an entire army painted up in days! Is it as effective on vehicles/larger models as well?

Looks great, I love devlan, sepia, and badab, however the rest always turn out to shiny for me.
How many coats of the wash are you applying? The green of the armor just looks so solid. I've never gotten this effect when using just the washes over white primer.

Try shaking the pot before using, it should kill the shininess. My Devlan Mud didn't work at all until a friend of mine gave me a tip about shaking.

Too bad there aren't any pink washes for my Slaanesh marines, but at least my old skaven minis will get painted pretty quickly!
Actually, Baal Red dries pink. Use that. For red you need to mix.

Baal Red is the only wash I don't own, I went out and bought them (almost) all to experiment with.
The result?
Two layers of badab black on a white primed model. Two layers of the following: devlan mud on the bark, ogryn flesh on the belly and claws, thraka green on the moss and one layer of devlan mud on the moss.
AMAZING!
