This is an Autarch I painted a while back. I can't exactly remember what I did, I think I started with a REALLY thin layer of Baal Red - about 1 part wash and 2 parts water - then around the edges of the coif with sepia, followed by badab black for the eyes and mouth.

I was wondering how you did the daemonettes on page 1 (Skin, hair and claws).

    Thank you

    2. great work on the Giant! Is it pure Ogryn Flesh? What will happen if you try to make it brighter with another sepia wash now? When I get mine, I will try a Sepia/Ogryn mix with about 60:40.

Frankly, I didn't even notice until you mentioned that. German is the closest language to English according to the experts.

First off, I teach English as a second language, an your English is great.

Second, yeah, sepia might lighten up the ogryn flesh a bit as it is the lightest wash, but it's also a bit yellow. I mix it when I want an off-tone color.

One idea might be to simply mix in a bit of water with the ogryn flesh. This will thin it a bit and allow more of the white undercoat to show through, creating a paler flesh. It's probably what I should had done with my giant.

And yes, I'd like to paint some skaven too.

    - First I did the gray-scale as usual.
    - Then I painted ogryn flesh on the skin.
    - Then I painted the hair and claws with leviathan purple.
    - I lightly dry-brushed some snow caps on the tip of the claws with some skull white.
    - The black is just chaos black. But you can also do multiple layers of badab black, or mix some badab black and chaos black together.
    - The silver is just chainmail watered down to become a wash and then after it dried I gave it another layer of badab black.
    - Pain the base, miniature finished.

    Re: More fun with washes.

Thanks @ all for beeing so kind with my english

@thoume: this skin is more the one i´d like to see on my elves, though. But it´s too bad you don´t remember how you´ve done it exactly.

So my question still is on the table: how can I paint a pale skin tone for elves?
Don´t wanna do them too dark..-.-

@big squig:thanks for all the work you´re putting in teaching us this technique Just wanted to mention this. Unbelievable how patient you are... wanna become a teacher too, so I should learn to become more patient now..xD

A couple new ones. A genestealer (which was super easy) and an ultramarine which looks so-so. I'm still trying to get as close to ultramarine blue as possible, but it's proving tough...

    Beware the enemy without!

That marine looks alot closer to a Space Wolf than an Ultramarine. The vibrant blue of the Ultramarines is probably out of the range of possibility for the current GW washes. It would be very nice if they came out with more washes to fill the gaps in the current range.
"Oh great and mightly emperor whose light protects us all, the forces of chaos are nearing the palace, tell us what must we do to repause them.
A rumble is heard in the distance and the entire palace begins to groan.
As the dust of ages slowly falls from his body and his aura which seemed bright grows radiant beyond imagining, He begins to speak with a voice of thunder, " FORM FEET AND LEGS"
The Tyranids don't hate. They don't yearn or care or fear. They can't be reasoned with.

Yeah, for it to be a bit closer to space wolves, I'd prolly add a drop of sepia to the blue. Ultramarines are just too bold and vibrant to match it seems.

I'm thinking about using this technique for my new CSM army - has anybody tried this with a Khorne Berzerker yet?

@Big Squig: how would you do bronze?

Bloodknight... gryphonne Sepia over Boltgun metal gives a good bronze colur.. add a little thraka green to the wash mix if you want to give are verdigris affect..

I love this method of painting, it has revolutionised the way I tackle the painting of my models..

    Best wishes,

Hey nice work there Big squig, how did you do the genestealer? It looks almost exactly like the original scheme in white dwarf

Skin is a mix of baal red and leviathan purple watered down. Carapace is just asurman blue. Bone is sepia with a little white highlight.

Another cool example. I actually painted and converted this model about a year ago. (same friend I did the guard for)

This is a great example of a character piece done in washes.

    Freakin´ hell...this CSM looks awesome!!!!
    I´m really impressed!!!
But... how did you do the black? Only watered down CB? Any highlighting afterwards? Or only grey-scale? Gold seems to be watered down Shining Gold with Badab Black afterwards?

Nice! Only just found this thread. I've been painting my tabletop mini's in a similar manner. Over a white undercoat i wash with ogryn flesh, then two coats of baal red. This provides a nice natural shading. Over brush orange then bring the colour back to red with baal red again. I'd say the edges need highlighting here and there but the effect you have is pretty good.

    Hello,

your modells look very good. Can you, please, describe how do you made those dark elve? And do you have any ideas about red power armor (I thinking about blood angels)...

    Greetings
