Nice! Just hope you don't mind my horde of black, unpainted Stirlanders... There is no way I'm going to be able to get my army painted any time soon (by which I mean the next couple of years).
I guess it does... I have never played against Tomb Kings before, so only if you promise to go easy on me
Anyway, update time! You know I've been working on the master for my towers. There has gone a lot of planning and forethought into this simple construction, more, maybe, than meets the eye... I really don't want to cast all the individual bricks needed to build a single tower, let alone a couple of towers. So, I went in search of a method to be able to cast and build towers the easy (and fast) way, without losing too much detail. All the sections you'll see below are to be the masters of a set of molds, building me a modular tower in just a few casts...
This is the upper half of the tower wall... The plan is to combine four of these sections into a big, square tower. This particular piece is still under construction, there still needs another three inches to be added at the bottom. When completed, the tower will be roughly 2.5 times the height of the caste walls. The lower half will also feature a similar gap, to allow either another door at ground level (on the inside) or just bricks (on the outside).
I can almost hear you thinking: "Why is there a huge gap in your tower wall? That's not very defendable!" Well, that's part of the plan...
The gap can be either fully bricked up, or filled with one of these two components. The left one is the door section, meant to connect the wall and the tower. The one on the right is a section with two firing slits, meant to go on the outside of the tower wall... It took some carefull sanding and filing to ensue a nice, smooth fit. In the end, it proved rather easy. I hope the molds provide me with a satisfactory result...
The door section in place... You can still see the outline of the gap and smaller door section. When painted, this outline should be nearly invisible, blending in with the surface of the wall.
The door section (combined with the piece of tower wall) when held against the finished wall section...
The section with the arrow slits... The arrow slits are at exactly the same level as the ones on the wall sections.
The basic tower wall (with the gap) and these two different smaller sections will allow me to construct different towers (ones that serve as corners, both inside and outside, and ones that just connect two straight wall sections).
Thanks for watching! More updates coming soon! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

They look very cool. can`t wait to see them finished.

Now with Airship added!
Looking good, the fortes is shaping up nicely! So, next to a separate template for the lower half of the towers, you'll be adding the top? Those will be some large towers indeed! Any special sections planned (next to the gatehouse)?
This entire thread is the best thing I have ever seen.
My friends and I are about the start a Mordheim campaign and where deciding how to do terrain and this thread was perfect; so many different ideas, so many different buildings!
You sir, are a god.
those bricks are made with those german moulds?
Thanks for the feedback!
Thanks! I hope it will work out as planned...
Thanks!
It will take some time, as do all projects...
Thanks! Well, I'm thinking about a couple of special sections, but I want to build some generic pieces first...
Thanks! I wouldn't call it perfect, nor would I pronounce my own divinity (but you are free to do so)...
Nope, the bricks are made with Hirst arts molds, which are, to my best knowledge, not German (they sound a bit Germanish though)...
Anyway, I've got an update for you!
With the plans for the towers I basically had to start over, rebuilding my walls... The old wall sections aren't tall enough, they are 1.5 Inch too short. I tried to take them apart, but the plaster and glue just wouldn't allow it. After breaking the first into a lot of sharp and small pieces I decided to leave the other two alone and just build new walls.
Two wall sections together... The one in front is the old wall section, the one in the back is the new one. I also increased the number of parapets from three to four, reducing the open space inbetween them.
When placed together you can clearly see the difference in height...
And from the inside... The arches prevented me from just adding a few layers of bricks to the excisting wall sections.
Thanks for watching! More updates coming soon! As always, your feedback is greatly appreciated, so please let me know what you think, and, if you're feeling adventurous, feel free to rate my thread...

do you mind if i ask which moulds you have. they are really expensive. im assuming your making your own moulds from silican for the larger componants?
Why exactly did you need the walls to be higher because of the towers?

Amazing, simply amazing. Really gets the creative juices flowing. How did the gigantic tree turn out, or did I miss it?
You know, I decided to use Lego as dungeon walls, and the effect is rather nice, but it just doesn't win from the Hirstarts blocks purely in terms of aesthetics. The Lego stuff isn't bad, and ten times as quick to realize, but still.... I envy you.

I have quite the selection of Hirst molds, most of the gothic ones and a couple of others. I mostly use the standard molds, dungeon builder and such... The custom molds are all made with two part silicone rubber.
I will be building the towers using pre-fabricated parts (for pics see the previous update). For the tower and walls to connect I needed the towers to be three stones higher.
Thanks!
Somehow I knew you would say that... Turns out you were right!
Thanks! You didn't miss it, it's not finished yet. Work is keeping me quite occupied and I just haven't found the energy and time yet to finish it... But now that you've mentioned it, it might get some attention soon!
Thanks, I guess... In that case you really should come and play in my dungeon soon (pun intended)...

Well, after the previous update you really got me thinking about the tree... During last weekend I looked it up once again and wanted to start working on it. The tree was in pretty bad condition, the putty I used to sculpt the tree dried in a most unsatisfying manner, cracking and shrinking quite a lot... There was some serious work to be done! But before I even got all my things together I got distracted by my bitsbox... All the statues I put in earlier had come loose due to the shrinkage of the drying material and there it was, jus the macabre little detail it really needed...
A couple of months ago I purchased a set of Fulcrums, mainly for use in other scenery projects. The best bit out of that set is now a part of my tree. It took a little carefull cutting and a lot of less than subtle breaking to remove all the unwanted parts of the tree (the putty dries really hard!) but in the end I managed to remove enough to fit the set of statues underneath.
Last night I started working on the lower half of the tree (the top will be the last part to get finished). I wanted the figures to be part of the tree as much as possible. I tried to let their robes flow naturally into the roots of the tree. These pics are from last night. I took some precautions to prevent the putty from drying too fast (and hence hope to prevent too much shrinking and cracking) but I haven't checked on it yet. I hope it will turn out all right, as I quite like the way it is now... It still isn't finished but I'm getting there...

All of this looks amazing, it makes me pine for the Necromunda scenery I used to have available when I had a regular opponent.
I used to use a 4' by 4' space and cover it with at least two of the Necromunda terrain sets and link it with extra paths/bulkheads and had the inner roles from photographic paper (4", 5", 6", 8" and even 12") as massive pipes both used as walk throughs and LOS blockers. - never did get any paint on it.
Reminds me of Sleepy Hollow that tree![]()
