    Re: Mordheim structures

I think the plastic fence looks much better, seems to be much more realistic. Stunningly good as always.
    High praise! Thanks!

Both are good. Which are more durable ?
The plastic version is more durable and even somewhat flexible. The plaster piece is quite fragile and shatters when dropped...

    Pictures of the finished piece...

Quite happy with the result. My board could do with some obstacles and it keeps in line with the style of the city.

It looks like with the addition of a few small strips of plasticard you could even make the fence sections removable to model damage. (slide in for intact slide out when destroyed) Very nice indeed.

My sincere apologies, I didn't mean to rant on like that...

Thanks for the reply, Boreas! And don't you worry, rants are fine with me!
The main thing that'll ramp up the cost for me I think will be the plastic accessories (statues and things), because I don't have any of those. I can get foam board, balsa wood and all that fine.
I also already have the board (RoB board), so that's another cost down.
The main thing I love about your work is the level of detail that you've put in. Not just on the buildings, on the statues, floor work, trees, everything. It's that extra detail that really brings your board to life, and it's that exact element that I want to capture when I come to make mine.
I'm currently only on the collecting inspiration stage of the board, so I'm hoarding pictures of things I like (lots of Warhammer Online artwork, Warhammer maps from the Mordheim books, and a (un)healthy collection of pictures of your board) in order to drive home the idea behind it. I also have several friends to rope in and help, so hopefully that'll speed things up!
And don't worry about putting me off with price and time spent. I'm currently making an Imperial mining colony with promethium refinery, chapel, communications array, administratum (with built in landing pad), hab block and many, many more things!

    ANYWAY! On topic:

The railings look way better made of plastic (but you know that already). Some bent or blasted ones would look quite nice (whether they can be swapped in or not), along with some broken wall sections just to tie in with the buildings.

Those plastics look great as ussual, B!
I dunno how many fences you`ve finished so far, but put a few on the table. I just want to see how they interact with the buildings.

Or I just have to wait untill tomorrow, ready the paint, i`m getting into a paintfrenzy again lately.....

Thanks for the comments and feedback!

I've got some fresh pics for you, but be careful, the paint is still wet...

I've added some spare shields to give the fence a bit more Empire feel and to provide a some more cover...

    Great looking fence.
Did you heat up the plastic rods to get the spread out points on the top of the fence?

Thanks! No heat, I just flattened them with a smooth pair of pliers and cut them to shape...

first though was : hey, that's a weird place to put a tomb.

"Gran'pa's dead, lets dig a hole in the backyard stone floor and put him there.

Once completely painted this will definately be one of the best game table ever.

Ugh... I am so jealous of your collection of Hirstarts, and your ability to actually do something with the stuff you have... I wouldn't be able to do anything with it even if I had it, out of sheer laziness.

Ah, I see you've went even further to give your Mordheim section that extra flavour! That plastic fence of yours was the right thing to put in.

ROTFLOL! Poor old Gran'pa... Thanks for the compliment though!

Tiny update, but something I'm quite happy about.

From left to right: Complete lantern from one of the Citadel scenery kits (I think the Chapel), adapted lantern and master for the mold and finally the first cast from said mold... I intend to replicate the arm with some plastic bits and mount them on buildings and walls. A pic of an assembled lantern should be expected later today...

Tiny details taken from a 40K building panel (Cities of Death terrain). These are also casts from a mold I made... Intended to further detail my buildings...

Thanks ye. or something like that.

Maybe you should build a breached wallsection, so the walls look like they got hit by the cometh blast wave as well.

    Re: Mordheim structures

As promised (and a lot quicker than I expected), a few pics of a finished lantern...

Three sizes of plastic tubing and a few strips of plasticard... Simple but I quite like it!

I couldn't resist... I just had to put it on a building to see how it looks...

Ah, yes, lanterns! I knew there were something that could be added. A good moulding effort, both for the lantern and the gothic "wood-carvings" (though I suspect they'll be in iron). As for the lantern holder, yours look so much better compared to GW's They should copy you right off next time they'll be releasing a Fantasy building kit.

Perhaps you could add a few street lights? In a WD (nr. 320-40 something) with an article about conversions based off the artwork in a BL illustration book (Blood on the River Reik perhaps?), there was a drawing (and a miniature based on it) of a "street lighter". He had loads of lit candles on the shoulders if I remember correctly. As such... you should enlighten your town! Don't forget to add a street light pole that snapped as the schockwave ruined the houses all around.

    Besides, how about gargoyles?

Thanks! It's not that I don't like the lantern from the GW scenery kit, but I only had a few and I needed loads... The lantern itself can be cast in plaster, the support cannot so is made with plastic bits. The gothic carvings will be wood, I intend to sprinkle them arond my buildings for a little bit of extra detail.

Blood on the Reik is an awesome book (I even own a copy), I looked up the figure you mentioned and it makes sense. I like the idea that the lamplighter is such an important individual that interfering with his duties is punishable by death!

You do know if you make more of those railings you HAVE to have a skeleton with its head stuck between the bars. Basic human stupidity exists even in the Warhammer universe. Love all the buildings though...
