Glad to he of service. Have you considered doing it more like warpaint? I get a crude hunter-gatherer vibe from those guys, I think they'd look better with handprints and such rather than the commonly used 'tribal' tattoos. It would also fit better with the animal/ritual masks.

Nice sculpting, and some impressive painting though.

@BewarethePhil and Niekish - Thank you very much.

@Byron - Thanks, I've set out a painting plan of action for when I get home in an attempt to up my productivity (still haven't reached the 1000pts painted mark), so hopefully you'll see something in the next couple of months.

@MichaelJames - I think I'm going to stick to the swirly tattoo style on the horses for the most part as I want it to be a constant thing across the army. Plus I pictured this unit being more serene and spooky rather than wild, and as such I can't imagine them performing wild acts of body painting and the like - no warpaint orgies for these guys! However, their masks may be getting some simpler markings on the cheeks and such, like on the sketches on the second page, but in a darker dried blood-like colour. Thanks for the suggestion all the same though, fresh ideas are always appreciated.

WOW! This is one truly inspirational army! Great painting. Love the highlighting and darker look too. And the conversions - both small and large - are fantastic! Even the finely detail you put into the bases to bring the terrain more to life. I am definately subbing to this. Thank you so much for sharing and very much looking forward to seeing more from you.

    Thanks for the comments.
Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything painted on here but at long last I have something. Promised myself that when I got back home I'd finish off my first rank of Eternal Guard in a week, and week and a day later I've done it. Pleased with how they've come out, although they're not the easiest models to paint. I like the general design but they seem to have a few poorly thought out details. Took me a while to work out how I wanted to paint certain details too, such as the plumes. Anyway here they are, all c&c welcome.

Wow, those look great! I love the LoTR color scheme you opted for, which really works with these models and will no doubt allow them to both blend in and stand out from your army at the same time. Having painted these myself (to a much lower standard, I should add) I think I know what you mean about some of the details. I thought the armor looked fantastic, however I had problems with the leaves scattered about the models, the awkward poses on some of them, and found that a few of the spears were irreversibly bent at the hand.

Cheers Dan. Yeah, I went for that silvery gold colour armour those elves have, wanted to keep the palette cool rather than adding a warm gold. Thought keeping it light would help the contrast with the dark palette too. Slightly changed the recipe on the cloaks as well to make them a little greener, bring a bit more colour to the unit. I think that when I have a whole unit done (or a least a fair few models more painted... otherwise you'll be waiting for years) I take a shot of them with other units from the army, see how they fit in.
As for the models... yes the bent stick is a bit of a funny one, maybe it gives them some advantage in combat that we just don't know about, secrets of elven warfare. Anyway, bent sticks; the hair (not the plumes) coming out of the helmets is badly sculpted on most of them; some of the leaves are very badly scupted (or cast, not sure which); and quite a few nothing spaces that you have to fill with a wash because you don't know what else you can do with them. Oh, and some of these elves are suffering from stubby fingers, all these years living in the woods has made them just that little bit less perfect than they're elven brothers across the sea :P So, much as I like the models, these things made it that much harder to paint them and took some enjoyment out of it.

Here are some closer-up shots of the eternal guard:

Re: Guardians of the Shadowglades ~ Wood Elves

Time for another update. Just finished the batch of glade guard I've been working on. Also posting up some photos of them with the eternal guard I recently painted so you can see how the two work together. I wanted to introduce a slightly different scheme to the EG. Silvery gold is the clear difference between the two. The slightly less noticeable one is that I went for greener highlights on the EG cloaks, swapping the GG's catachan green for camo green. This was also to compensate for the fact that the EG have less of the black/sharp green highlight shoulder pads painted on them. Anyway, just a little insight into the thought process behind the schemes, here are the photos, enjoy!

PS. first couple of photos are a little dark (bad set up on my part mainly), but they get better. I'll pretend they're "mood-setting" photos. (EDIT: Tried to get the photos a bit brighter now) Also, photobucket sometimes takes a while when applying the edited settings to the photos. So if they look enormous to you, it they should rectify themselves a little later

Phenomenal work as always, Elfboy. I love the color distinction between the two units. Have you stopped using the green arrow fletching? They look really great in black.

Your army is one of those armies that makes me want to go out and collect ven though I had no interest in it at first. Extremely well done and I would love more updates whenever you can!

Very inspirational work! I am so glad to be subscribed to this plog. Nicely executed painting - so much depth! With the rumours of a darker, more gritty Wood Elf army on the horizon, these will fit in very nicely. I'm excited to see more!

Whilst I'm not usually a fan of 'Welves' your plog have convinced me they can look jaw dropping. The colour scheme is really dark, moody and, most importantly, effective, it really works for me. Those dryads are absolutely beautiful and I dig your conversions. Consider me hooked.

Re: Guardians of the Shadowglades ~ Wood Elves

    Thanks for the comments everyone.
@Lord Dan - Cheers, it's nice to deviate from the main scheme a little, get a bit of variation in there, good to hear it works. I had a moment of doubt pre-basing, but now that's done it has helped pull the to units together. I have done away with the green arrow fletching on your advice, it has helped keep that dark theme going. Although I feel like a stiff for saying it, the fletching is actually a blue green mix, but it's so dark that it is virtually black. There's no highlighting on them which is why the colour doesn't really come through.

@Griffonclaw - Thanks, if the wood elf army book rumour is true, maybe it'll inspire you even more to start collecting! Personally, I think the background and description of the wood elf nature has a great feel to it, it's a real motivation. I'll try and get some more updates in shortly, get these guys done has given me a bit of a boost.

@gogs78 - Thank you, always nice to hear.

@Lord Cedric - Cheers, I hope those rumours hold up, it'd be nice to get some new bitz and units involved! (I may even be able to put together a decent all asrai list as originally planned, fingers crossed!)

@Luke1608 - Thanks, glad I could change your mind about my favourite army.

@Fanny Crowbar - Cheers, I feel with this batch I've gotten a better feel for painting the scheme, glad you like them.

So next up will be some more eternal guard, including the champion, which is a lovely model. They're at the basecoating stage at the moment, and I'm working on ten at once which is unheard of for me. All part of my intentions to speed up production. After that it'll be either be a character or some waywatchers to break things up.

    Cheers,
    Elfboy.

EDIT: ASKING FOR BITZ> I was wondering if anyone has any glade rider bitz they'd be willing to trade. Specifically, glade rider bare heads (the designs that differ from the glade guard ones), sword arms and spear arms (including two-handed grip). They will help me with my glade guard, and second rank wild rider conversions. I have a few wardancer models I'd be willing to trade, or empire bitz if anyone is interested. Please, let me know by PM, cheers.

Englishman: "It's not black. It's a nearly-black blue-green composite that gives the illusion of true black."

    American: "So...it's black?"

I've got a friend with some glade rider heads, I'll have to see if he's willing to part with some for you.

Haha, I know it's so pretentious isn't it!? "Really it's a deep sea slash obsidian black, my very own special recipe blended from 15 different colours..." Ever trying to be the artiste!

That'd be great, let me know if he wants anything in exchange, I've got a spare waywatcher or wardancer or two.

I can not believe I have not commented earlier, I have been a long time lurker and admirer.

I like your new scouts, but especially your Wild Riders and can not wait until they are al painted!

Personally, I dont like the Eternal Guard models and would have converted my own with the LOTR elves (size difference be be damned ).
Your Eternal Guard are very nicely painted I just don't like the sculpts.

Any way, please give us MORE!
