Lack0f + Eater = 2 Emperor Titans

Ok. So in an attempt to procrastinate a little bit from my tau & squat armies i've decided i need a large project that will take up what little free time i have when im not working on the house.

The obvious choice is a emperor titan. Well maybe its not that obvious. It wasn't to Orion (theEaterofSmallthings) when i first told him. Basically its the next step. Of the 6 or 7 biggest models (mass wise) currently put out by GW or FW between the 2 of use we have scratchbuilding probably 5 of them (Manta - Thunderhawk - Reaver Titan - 2x Warhound Titans - 3x Baneblades). The Tyranid Biotitan & Ork Stompa are probably on that list as well. The eater also just finished scratchbuilding 3 really awesome bastions for planetstrike.

So ive convenced the Orion that we need Emperor titans. 2 of them. 1 imperial and 1 chaos (or other). Current suggestions are Nurgle, other chaos or Genestealer cult. I think the genestealer cult emperor titan is both funny, awesome and weird all at the same time. But i think i am like nurgle the best. It doesn't really matter cause i think i am imperial and he is "other".

Current idea is we get started making plans and 3D models right away.
Saturday building starts. Sometime in Jan when the mega apoc game is going down in ohio we will have 2 of the biggest models ever facing off.

A Note on scale...

Orion and myself discussed this at length on G-Talk tonight. I think we are going with the 43 meters for our emperor titan's height. This was stated in one of the Horus Heresy books.

We know the listed height of all titans varies greatly.

Com pairing this to the listed heights and acctual sizes of the 2 FW titans...
43 meters works out to about 30" tall.
This is about twice the size of a Forgeworld reaver (16")
and about three times the size of a Forgeworld warhound (10.5")

30" is also a nice size to break at the waist and put in the truck of your car. I know its not the 5-6' tall emperor's alot of you are used to seeing. But 30" is plenty big to get the point across. Its also convenient for transport as well as moving it around the table. I would imagine alot of those 6' titans need their own table, or never move (who knows, maybe ours won't move anyway however i retain the option).

If you want to talk about how big our titan is... don't.
it will be about 30" tall and that is the way it is.

Awsome, if youd like i would be willing to help you with the design or template construction. I have made a set of warlord plans and am able to use 3 dimensional modelling skills to create a mockup essentially allowing you to see what you are going to make before you make it. I can PM you my warlord plans if you like.

@Hellheart, Sure Shoot them my way. What program do you use? Im pretty up to speed in autocad, which is what ive made most my templates in.

For modelling in 3d i use blender, its a very powerfull freeware modelling program. What i then do is convert my files into 3ds format send those into a japanese program called pepakura where I "unfold" the mesh to create the templates. I then print the templates using cute pdf writer into pdf format.

I downloaded Pepakura a while back but didn't get very far with it. In AutoCad i can manually "unfold" my exploded shapes. It doesn't work very well with smooth surfaces (domes & cylinders and whatnot).

Pepakura does, if you look at the plans you will see that it can handle them quite well, it also offers very good manipulation of the templates.

I have attached a few pics to show a built example of my warlord leg, the curved armour is a good example of how well pepakura handles curves. and some 3d renders to show what i can do. Sorry about the large size on the two photos.

What kind of weapons load out are you planning?
Any interior details like Cockpit or Engineering?

Some of that is still up in the air. And i don't know what Orion is going to do.

TO explain... and i will try to grab a picture later.
There are 2 arm weapons adn 6 carapace weapons.
The carapace is laid out in 3 x 2 fashion.
So you have a front right left & center, then back right left & center.

Im thinking im going with what i am calling a 2-2-2-1-1 weapons loadout.

That is..
The arm weapons will be identical (2)
The Front outside 2 weapons will be identical (2)
The Back outside 2 weapons will be identical (2)
The the front center will be different (1)
The the back center will be different (1)

This gives me 5 different types of weapons. I am leaning toward taking 3 dedicated anti-infantry/anti-horde weapons. Probably all on the back 3 mounts.

The arm weapons will probably both be vengeance cannons. And expect a big weapon on the "front center" mount.

I like the symmetry of this layout as well as the "anti-infantry in the back" theory as alot of the anti-infantry = apoc barrage.

Also i am a range fiend so expect longer ranges over higher strength or rate of fire.
I worked it out and you can take 26 Strength D - 5" or larger blast on an emperor titan.
We are not doing that. We arn't "that guy"

Beyond that alot is still up in the air.

Looking great chaps, I hope these plans will be available for download, if you need any test building just give me a shout. This easy way out (rather than me having to scratch them up) really appeals to my lazy nature and a couple of these mid sized Titans flanking Odin would be the icing on the cake for Battlegroup Ragnarok!

Hellheart those templates look very cool indeed

Btw Lackof, some time soon I also plan on building a biotitan too, it's going to be more of a set piece in a death struggle with Odin, if I pull it off we are talking about something touching 6 feet tall and probably 5 feet long, goodbye spare time!

After the glorious fun of the Manta T.hawk build, I can honestly say I'm thrilled to see antoher massive project on the go. I always feel really involved with your blogs as they are so up to date and well written.

@Bulldog – I love how you refer to 30” emperor titans as “mid-size”. That being said I love going back and looking through your battle group. Which I just did. I hadn’t seen Odin’s power first before. I Still think my favorite is Glonor Fides. Maybe I’m just partial cause I really liked my templates for that guy (as well as your application of them)

Also their might be templates I can send you as we work on this, I think I still got your e-mail somewhere

Also the biotitan sounds sick in the truest sense of the word.

Thanks Bulldog that means alot coming from a scratchbuild god like yourself.

Lackof assuming that you are going to be using the mars style from the old epic model you will probably want to redesign the legs, the thighs in particular do not come out so great at 28mm scale making the legs look rather weak. In this imperator while it is a true to epic version it does not look very much like it could hod the true weight or mechanically function. I propose that for redesigning the legs you go along the lines of the thighs on the dreamforge leviathans.Here and Here This would enable a very sturdy appearance and they look alot more mechanically sound.

The calves also raise issues with the style of them, with the epic model they are not styled very vell to fit into the forgeworld reaver and warhound styles, however are you going to sacrifice the classic look for something that fits into the current style. The style that i think would work is the same one as the warlord in the apoc book on page 124. These legs look sufficiantly beefy and if you removed the "toes" and replaced them with hatches you would have a true to fluff version of the imperator legs.

I am currently moddeling a 3d version of what i am trying to propose/ask and should have that ready by tonight.
