Thanks Jihad, don't worry there will be a lot more chaosification, I'm still thinking about attempting to construct/sculpt a giant version of those gun barrel gargoyles for the end of the plasma blastgun. Not sure whether or not that will happen (I'm a bit apprehensive of trying such an ambitious sculpt), but anyway. I am working on a big stormblade-scale dozer blade at the moment, that might be a good place to hang a skeleton perhaps as there is a big blank space in the middle of it at the moment, a skeleton or two hanging over the exhausts might be an idea too.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

Time for an update, I've finished the dozer blade and done quite a lot more chaosification on the stormblade, pretty much the only thing left to do is the organ, which will have to wait until I get some more plastic tubing so I'm going to be taking a break from the stormblade for a while and make a start on the next of my ornaments (the one with the column on the previous page).

    Anyway here are the pictures:

Here's a close up of the detail on the dozer blade

and a picture of the Dark Apostle showing the long parchment strips I've done on his shoulder pads. In the stormblade pics you can see him banging his fist on the lectern during his sermon, I just need to get some small cylindrical magnets so I can switch him between fist banging and holding his gun without using blu-tac.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

That is a true beast of a tank! And please add some small, possibly horned mutant-animal somewhere on the hull. Your stuffoological collection is really nice.

Interesting weapon for the Dark Apostle, too. If you added a few straining faces into the Stormblade's flanks, it could make this one of the best Chaos Undivided vehicles ever.

Excellent BFG scratchbuilding. I don't know if it is your funny battleship-chewing hiveship or the greatly detailed forgeship that I like best, but they're all good!

    Re: The Dragon's Den

Dragonlord, how are you getting such clean cuts with your plasticard? That dozer blade and the Chao Icon on it look really smoothly done. I imagin you'll be painting all the battle damage onto it rather than cutting and drilling holes into it?

The tank looks awesome, really coming together nicely! I agree that you should a little greenstuff creature to it!

That Wordbearer still looks badass BUT... Those scrolls have worked well but the blobs at the top of each one don't look quite right. They're meant to be purity seal type things right? I think they need a 'dimple' in each one to make them look better.

Look under 'Purity Seals' on this link.

I think you'll really like that link actually, your greenstuff skills are quite good already but this will probably compliment them!

Thanks very much guys. I will see about the possibility of adding a little greenstuff animal, possibly using Eater of Small Things nurglings as inspiration. Probably won't be an update for a few days yet though as I've just gone back to uni and am still getting everything settled at the moment.

I just cut carefully along pre-drawn lines with a sharp knife and only cut part way through and then snap it if I can. I also use a small file and some very fine sandpaper to straigten any edges that are a bit off. The chaos star on the dozer blade also had its edges bevelled which may have helped. I haven't quite decided what to do about battle damage on the dozer blade yet, for the most part all battle damage I've done in the past has been painted on but I'm still considering doing a few cut/drilled scars.

Thanks for pointing that out, I realise that in my excitement about getting as far as I did I forgot to do the wax seals at the top of the scrolls. The link was helpful too, I would never have thought of doing a robe that way, definitely something to try at some point.

I meant to say in my last post that I've pretty much decided against doing a gargoyle/dragon head for the plasma blastgun now as looking at the photos I think it would overpower the rest of the model.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

It's funny that you've been wondering what other people do with their extra green stuff. It's an interesting question. Lately, my leftovers get turned into new nurglings, though I must say manta rays are definitely more stylish.

Keep up the good work. Love that dozer blade and icon. I think you can get by without scratching it up. It looks more imposing this way (maybe it's imbued by some warp aura that makes it resilient to mundane battle damage).

    Re: The Dragon's Den

What's this, *gasp* it's an update. Yes sorry it's been such a long time since I last updated this, uni kept me far busier than I had hoped so I wasn't able to get any painting or modelling done. It now being the vacation I have been able to get some stuff done.

So here is the first thing I have done some work on, the second one of those ornaments I'm making.

I think this one shows better the marble effect I'm trying to do on the base.

The figure is just at base coat stage at the moment but it is pretty much ready to start on shading and highlighting

And for something a little different here is a simple foamboard bastion I'm making for my local club

It will be getting a few more details, some buttresses around the base and possibly heavy bolters at the middle level on the sides without firing slits but I'm aiming to keep it quite simple so that once this one is done I can produce more quickly and easily, and so that other people in the club can make them easily using the plans I'm making.

And now a little introduction to what will be my next large project.

Lieutenant Lucas Harker poured himself a mug of tea as he sat in the building his platoon had holed up in. Those damned chaos scum were proving very tough to shift and he welcomed this short period of respite as it seemed the traitor marines had eased up on their fire at his building. He took a sip and then set the mug down on piece of fallen masonry next to him. He was just going through in his mind what the options for his platoon were from here to take advantage of the diminished chaos force in the buildings on the other side of the highway when there was a deep rumbling thud that made the liquid in the mug tremble and his blood run cold. He waited listening intently, and sure enough there was another thud, slightly stronger than the first. Lucas recognised the sound of those thuds and he knew that their forces didn't have any titans operating nearby. The Lieutenant leapt up and yelled at his troops to run and for the rear of the building and take whatever cover they could as there came another thud, now alarmingly close. Lucas dashed towards the back of the building himself as he heard the terrible high-pitched whine that accompanied a large plasma weapon powering up and just managed to dive behind a large slab of fallen rockcrete before the whine peaked and the entire front of the building exploded in a shower of superheated fragments. Before the smoke from the explosion had had a chance to clear the titan opened fire with a mega-bolter, raining massive calibre shells into the building. He could hear the screams of his men and knew that there was nothing they could do against such a huge machine at this point and that the best he could hope for was to get himself, and as many of his men as possible out of the building alive. He ordered a general retreat over his micro-bead comm and was just turning to run himself when the clouds of smoke parted for a second and he saw their attacker, a warhound titan crouching low in an aggressive stance, hideous heretical iconography daubed all over it's hull. He paused for just a moment, mesmerised by its terrifying power, and then ran after what remained of his platoon.

Yep, I have a chaos warhound titan, though I am going to try and resist the urge to start work on it until the stormblade is a little closer to completion.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed the little bit of fiction and as always comments and criticism are very welcome.

    Hey there :-),

nice marble effect there, looks even better on the stairs I think :-)
    Well done.
Are you going to gloss it? since marble looks always really shiny.

Aha excellent, an update! That's a very nice marble effect you've achieved, Dragon Lord, and the bastion is coming along nicely.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

Thanks very much guys, also I notice that someone has rated my log as 5 stars, not sure if I deserve that but thanks very much

I haven't quite decided whether to gloss varnish the marble when its finished, but I probably will, as you say marble is usually highly polished and very shiny.

Anyway small update tonight, though I have actually done more than is easily visible.

I've magnetised all of the lascannon turrets on the stormblade as you can see in the picture below and I've also magnetised the pulpit, the turret extension and the engine hatches. All told the stormblade now contains at least 20 magnets.

I have also magnetised the Dark Apostle's gun (you may be able to tell it isn't being held on with blu-tac anymore), and I have done the seals at the top of his parchment strips.

Finally a little Christmas present I got, may I present Technomage Adraxis Farn.

He is going to be the chief engineer looking after my warhound, and I'm thinking will think of it a bit as his pet. To give him a touch of chaos-ness about him I've given his servo skull a horn and him a tentacle like tail. You may also have noticed that I gave him the title 'Technomage' rather than 'Techpriest' as I decided that over the 10000 years since the Heresy the titles used by those tech-adepts that went over to chaos will have drifted somewhat away from those used by the Adeptus Mechanicus, and in a way other than just appending the word 'dark' to the beginning. I'm thinking of using Tech-Lord and High Tech-Lord for Magos and Archmagos, but I'm not entirely sure about those so do let me know what you what you think.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

Something of a bits and pieces update today.

Firstly I've done some more work on the ornament, I've finished doing the marble effect and given it a coat of gloss varnish to give a highly polished appearance.

I've now done all of the washes and highlights on the figure, except for finishing off the plasma pistol, as well, so all that's left is to do the free hand work on the banner and the shoulder pads.

For a bit of a divergence I've been trying out the GW spray gun that I got a while ago on an Abrams tank I have (which you may be able to see in the background of some of the earlier pictures). The base coat went on very well, and definitely much quicker and easier than using a normal brush, so I decided to have a go at doing some camoflage and I must say I'm very happy with the result. I got some spots on the front but that was the bit I did first and I think was more a result of me being inexperienced with it and I managed to cover them up fairly well.

Also using the spray gun I made a start on painting this foamboard building that I made a while ago.

And finally I put some buttresses around the base of the bastion.

This will probably be the last update for a little while as hopefully, if the snow allows, I will be going back to uni this weekend.

Anyway as usual comments and critiscism welcome.

Dang! Well firstly that is some excellent terrain you're working on there, more angles please Quite a good advertisement for a spray gun I must say- nice work.

That's a really nice looking space marine piece, I could see an entire army in that paint scheme. How did you do the gold? Also, kudos for the writing on the purity seal (well, tabard or whatever that thing on his shoulder is).

Marble effect absolutely ace mate Enjoy the return to uni.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

Thank you very much Jihad and bigcheese76.

Well I got back to uni ok, despite the weather, so now I'm settled back in I suppose it's time for an update!

I've taken some pictures of the building from some other angles as requested along with a couple of other buildings I've made (defiler included for scale).

The bunker was made using the plans in the 4th ed rulebook and was the first building I made. The building with the gothic windows was actually made after the building with square windows but got painted first because I liked it more, and was like the square-windowed building made to my own design.

I've also done some more work on the banner bearer, it's still not quite done as I need to do the initials on the banner and do something on the shoulder pads, but it's nearly there now. I've also finished off the plasma pistol which you can probably see in the picture too.

To answer your question about the gold Jihad, it is shining gold washed with gryphonne sepia then drybrushed with burnished gold and finally given a few edge highlights of mithril silver on the sharpest edges. The chest eagle was given a light drybrush of mithril silver in between the burnished gold drybrush and the edge highlighting to make it stand out a bit more.

Looking great man! You really got some plastic card skills! I really like your BFG stuff, but I should add that you might want to add more detail to the wings of that Word Bearer ship.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

Thanks for the compliments Malika. The Word Bearer ship does have some raised panels on the wings to try and break up the flat expanse a little bit but they don't show up very will in the pictures. I might well return to it at some point and do a bit more work on them as I do agree that they could perhaps do with a little something more.

Anyway, so, long time no update. I have however now finished the banner bearer ornament.

The banner has had the initials painted and I've done the shoulder pads, the right one has his name, 'Merenare', and his personal heraldry and the left has the sword from the banner and the motto/phrase 'Sol Invictus'.

    Re: The Dragon's Den

So I was feeling slightly bored last night and haven't built anything for a while so I knocked this up in a spare hour or so.

The intention was for it to be a Thousand Sons/Tzeentchian vessel so I gave it lots of antennae to act as psychic conductors, I imagine lightning crackling up and down them waiting to be released at enemy vessels. I also intended the bridge to look like a silver tower of Tzeentch. I quite like the way the prow looks but I'm not really sure about the way the bridge turned out, I might take the big tower off and either replace it with more, smaller, ones or make a more standard bridge, thoughts?
